View Full Version : Rrrrr - my DBA just nuked my server

The head of our Business Intelligence group (who has to be the dumbest manager I've ever met) just nuked my test server. He changed some database set ups because the log files were getting so full so often that the system was getting shut down. In the process he blew away all rights, permissions, logins, passwords, etc. :mad: :mad: :mad:

My admin password is toast - so I can't log in to fix from the application. My personal login - which has most of the admin rights and would allow me to reset the password for the admin is still viable, but my ability to change rights and passwords ahve been striped.

This sucks - I was hoping for an easy Friday - now it looks like I'm going to be late getting home. :rolleyes:

My friend had a group like that at his work.. he called them crash test dummies.. i think i see why now

What kind of server is it (Windows/Sun/Unix/other?)

If it's a Windows server, there are ways to re-set the admin password if you have physical access to the machine...

It's windows, but it's not the database I can't get into - it's the application that feeds the database. I found the table with the user name and password information and tried to run an update command, but the password is encrypted and the application doesn't except the update command for resetting the password with a non-encrypted word.

The DBA said he would update test with the data from the production environment later. I hope to God he doesn't screw up the production database in the process. :rolleyes:
