Thought I would post it publicly cause it's just so damn good.
The first track on In Absentia rocked! I tried to think of who it sounded like, but couldn't put my finger on it. Drums sounded like Rod Morgenstein (Jelly Jam stuff). Same with the basic groove. Yet, they do have a sound all their own.
I wasn't captivated by the vocals right away(style), but they are growing on me. (Lyric in second song is really cool...something about a sixty ton angel falling from the sky). Muzak was interesting to listen to. I can see why Neil Peart thought that to be his favorite song by them, lyric-wise.
Drums sounded REALLY good. Very clear and punchy.
Guitars were pretty standard in regards to tones. What was cool (besides the rhythms in 5s, 6s, and 7s) were some of the lead parts reminded me a lot of Steve Howe, guitar player for Yes.
Thanks for the heads-up. I will check out the other stuff you mentioned.
