Jesus Christ. An $18 ticket for the home opener at Dodger Stadium cost me $18 for the ticket, and $9.55 in assorted "convenience charges."
Way to go, McCourt! You've just ensured that I won't buy Dodger tickets online anymore!

They didn't have any adjacent seats available. I checked before I placed the order. Sorry, Bug.

That is a major screw job. Out of curiosity, what was the breakdown on the 9.55?

Dont get me started on the eveilness of Ticketmaster. I fricking hate it. I went to a concert for 10 bucks earlier this year and their "conenience charge" was 11 bucks per ticket!! They can go fuck themselves.

Can McCourt really be blamed for TicketMaster's evilness?
Not completely related, I seem to vaguely recall some band disliking their evil ways and just bypassed them for their concert tour altogether. Don't remember who, though.

Same here in regards to Ticketmaster. The only times I'll use them is when there is no other choice - like Opening Day or the playoffs last season. I work close enough to MMP where I can drive down to the box office during my lunch hour and buy tickets. I went to about 40 games last year, and saved myself a small fortune in 'convenience fees'.

$3.30 "convenience" fee.
$3.75 order processing fee
$2.50 to email my tickets to me (the minimum to send 'em snail mail was $29.50)

I don't blame McCourt for TicketMaster's evilness.
I blame McCourt for USING TicketMaster's evilness. Dodgers had a perfectly acceptable ticket ordering system last season. The only possible reason to change is if McCourt decided that whatever he was spending on it was too much (and needed the extra few hundred thou to make payments on his $2 million mansion), and so decided it was worth letting TicketMaster screw his customers over in order to save that money.
There were teams last season that used TicketMaster, but there were several that didn't, too, so I don't buy that this is some league-wide mandate. It boils down to he was able to outsource it, so he did, and while he's saving money, Dodger fans are paying more. I'd love to see it hit him in the pocketbook by way of vastly reduced concession and souvenir sales.

I assume the $3.30 "convenience fee" was administered so you could print out the ticekts locally and not have to pick them up at the stadium? Bunch of garbage...not unlike ATM "convenience fees". The banks save countless $$$ not having tellers and replacing them with ATM machines, yet we get charged for using them...

Nope. That was the $2.50 "tickets emailed to you" fee.

I love how when I emailed them to complain, they tried to justify the email fee by saying that it covers their cost for ink, toner, shipping, the machines to print out the tickets on...

Actually that is not the case from what I have experienced. You do pay additional fees, but they are WAY less than if you went to their website.
This is what a friend of mine posted he paid for The Mars Volta:
Tickets (The Mars Volta): Full price tickets US $24.25 x 8
Total Building Facility Charge(s): US $1.75 x 8
Total Convenience Charge(s): US $8.45 x 8
Additional Taxes US $4.80
Order Processing Charge(s) US $3.75
Standard Mail: No Charge
TOTAL CHARGES US $284.15
Realize, that is for 8 tickets...or $35.52 for a $24.25 dollar ticket...bullshit.
But, another friend went to the Xcel Center box office...
I just paid 26 dollars at the Xcel Box office for this show.
= ticket price plus facility charge. I saved 8.45 + 1.20 + whatever the processing charge for one ticket would`ve been.
So, in the case of concerts, you can save money by bypassing Ticketmaster. I have made the mistake of paying 30 dollars for a Kings X show when I knew it wasn't gonna sell out. They were selling them at the door for a flat $20.00. Course, I would pay 30 to see the 'X'.

Not yet, but I'm sure such a fee is in the offing.

Josh, does LA have a local purchase location? The DBacks have three spots locally where you can buy tickets (in addition to the box office) without all the ticketmaster fees.

Arles I believe they have locations all over the Southland, but I have no idea where specifically any of them are.
I can drive down to Dodger Stadium and do advance or same-day ticket purchases there (what I'm likely going to be doing from now on), or I can use the various "scalping" sites on the web, like stubhub.com, if I want to get the tickets secondhand.
But after Ticketmaster just emailed me back with an "oops, we forgot about that fee, sorry, and we're still ignoring anything of relevance you have to say" reply, I really don't think I want to give them any of my business, local or Internet.

I don't blame you. After I got reamed going to a concert from them, I've tried every possible avenue to avoid using Ticketmaster again.

Thanks to the beauty of Fox Sports West and 980 KFWB, if it comes down to Ticketmaster or not going, I'll just sit at home and listen to Vin, thanks. Shame Ticketmaster doesn't understand that.

Still not real happy with Ticketmaster but, uh, according to my credit card statement, they chose not to charge me the $2.50 email fee after all (that, or they forgot to, and it's going to show up later).
I guess they decided discretion was the better part of valor, after all.

Ticketmaster is a scalper. That is plain and simple.
I saved money by going to the box office for U of M basketball games. I think I saved around $10 bucks for a $10 ticket when I went to a NIT game a couple of weeks ago.

Oh, agreed. I'm just pleasantly surprised that they came around to my point of view about the email fee.
Look, the way I see it is, the Dodgers always charged that convenience fee anyway. If Ticketmaster were to tell me, and could prove, that the Dodgers are still charging that fee VIA Ticketmaster, I wouldn't have any trouble believing that.
This is the same owner that decided $1 million was too much to spend to finish an earthquake retrofit (but that money was no object on that lavish mansion o' his), after all.
The order processing fee? Well, Ticketmaster's gotta make some money in the bargain somehow. That's their little pound of flesh, and while I don't like it, and would definitely prefer not to be charged that $3.30 extra, I'm not gonna put up TOO much of a fuss over it.
But $2.50 to email a ticket to me? That's the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. Especially when they try to justify it to me by telling me that it covers their printing, ink, and shipping costs to send me the ticket.
So, yeah. I'm glad they backed down on that. It means I can be a little less bitter while I'm at the game. The whole experience has still left a sour taste in my mouth, though. If the Dodgers make the playoffs again this year, and I'm able to go, I may end up paying more somewhere else just to avoid the hassle.
