How weird.

So I am chatting with this girl online through americansingles.com. We seem to be getting along pretty good.

All of a sudden she drops right out of the chat, declining to respond to me, and had already blocked me by the time I sent an email asking if everything was okay?

She was no great thing, but it feels weird not knowing what the sudden trunaround was caused by.

Guess I shouldn't have mentioned midget porn. :)

Damnit Chief Rum, I knew it was you ...

Oh and by the way it wasn't the midget porn :p

Sounds like you dodged a bullet there. Online behavior isn't the best indication of real life behavior but a good rule of thumb is that online psycho behavior usually indicates real life psycho behavior.

lol...exactly what I was thinking. It's just odd not knowing what was going on.

I haven't had too much luck with it so far, so it was nice to actually be chatting with someone live. She was talking about how she had been on match.com and how she got in a relationship off of that that went well for a good while. I told her I hadn't had much luck there, and she asked my sn (I think that was sign in name). So I looked it up and told her, and shortly after, she was gone.

Since I had just been to match.com, though, I knew no one had looked at my profile, so whatever it was, that wasn't it.

Weird, weird stuff. :/

I've tried online dating and I think of the girls I have dated from online (4) they have been the most decent ones, compared to meeting them any other way. Really only one had major issues. She went phsyco because I didn't call her one night, she went to a movie with her friend and I went out to eat with my friend. I get a call the next day getting my ass chewed, I was like WTF you went to a movie I'm not going to call you since I didn't even know what time it was. She says "Duh movies don't last all night." Thank god for call block and buddy block.

Two of the girls I am still good friends with, the other two I haven't talked to since it was called off. All four were good looking, one did some modeling - she is one that I am still friends with and talk to at least once a week. I think we might be actually getting together this weekend.

The whole online thing is very fragile, you say one wrong thing and you are cut off. Plus I am pretty sure about 70% of the girls on there are there for a morale boost, wanting to see if people thought they were hot.

I met my wife way before I'd every heard of "online" anything (1990 or so), and we've been together since 1991, so I've never had the, uh, pleasure (?) of trying online dating. I assume if you go with a reputable service, they have a way of ensuring that the 28 year old female with an MBA you are chatting with really isn't a 45 year old male ex-convict, right?

Interesting concept. Not sure I'd try it if I was single, but it might tempt me.

The only person I know who has tried this is the sister of my brother-in-law's fiancee. I wouldn't call her a psycho or anything, but she has some "issues." She's already met one guy online and moved out of state to be with him, sight unseen, and after that didn't work out, she met some other guy from North Florida and had him meet her for the first time at OUR HOUSE a couple of years ago, unbeknownst to me. I was hella pissed - at the time, my wife was pregnant and we had a 4 year old in the house. This guy could have been an axe murderer for all she knew. I guess some people are just clueless that way.

Anyway, just to be sure he wasn't a nutjob, I killed him and stuffed him under the house. :p

Everyone a Presumed Felon – Online Dating Safety Warnings

WARNING: WE HAVE NOT CONDUCTED FELONY CONVICTION SEARCHES OR FBI SEARCHES ON OUR COMMUNICATING MEMBERS

Earlier this month Virginia became the most recent state (joining Michigan and Ohio, among others) where state legislators have targeted online dating sites. The proposed legislation would require that online dating services either perform criminal background checks or disclose if background checks have not been performed. The above warning is an example of the disclaimer that would be required by law.

I dont think it was the standard mail order stuff lol.
What happened was he had to fly to Russia about four times and meet with all her family, schmooze, shit like that.

His wife brought along with her a daughter, so i'm thinking maybe the girl wanted the great oppurtunities Of the USA for her daughter, who knows.

My old boss married a Russian woman he met through a service. I remember looking through this three-ring binder with profiles while he discussed which ones he'd narrowed it down to. He flew over to St. Petersburg a couple of times to meet the prospects. Eventually he decided on one and brought her over here about four years ago. I have no idea if they're still together, although his previous track record of six divorces would indicate probably not.

Man, this stuff is a crack up.

Still don't know what happened with the crazy chick, but I have been chatting with another girl and we're supposed to try and go out tomorrow (no set plans yet).

One thing that has stood out to me about this so far. Unless you look like Tom Cruise or something, just describing how you're a great guy in your profile doesn't seem to work. I re-worked my profile to basically say, "I got my bleep together, and if you can't see that, take a hike..." and now I am getting a lot more interest, LMAO.

The weird thing is, two contacts I have are from a girl from Ghana and a girl from Armenia, both hot. And I know they're just looking for a free ride to the States, but it was trippy all the same. I talked to the girl from Ghana, and she was talking love right away. That kinda weirded me out.

Do employees get to hit on as many as you want to, and on company time?

And I agree that in three days you'll never find someone. With a profile like mine, in three years I couldn't... :D

I miss the messenger service. I would rejoin and pay if that were still up. Why'd they kill it? Is it because people were more successful with it and ended up paying less $ over time? The only success I ever had on match was when the messenger system was in place. Without the messenger I talked to three women on the phone inseveral one month trials. With the messenger I was talking to five withing two weeks!

I actually would get the occasional email from a woman when my profile wasn't hidden. What kills me is that I specifically would outline things like "Within 5 miles" and surely some woman from 50 miles away who doesn't physically fit what I am looking for will email me. I live in Manhattan. I really don't want to travel all the way to Brooklyn for a woman, why would I go to Jersey?

Not sure. I guess you could check your account while you are at work, but I don't think it would be a very productive use of time. You would have to be caught red-handed, though.

And I agree that in three days you'll never find someone. With a profile like mine, in three years I couldn't... :D

Try updating your profile, or adding some more pictures. Or maybe you would have more success with a site that limits your matches for you, like eHarmony.

It's being looked at. Usually when they yank something, it's because it has a negative affect on subscriptions.

Unfortunately, what you are looking for is not featured very prominantly on your profile display. Most people probably don't even know where to find it. All they care about is if you fit into their search criteria. We're working on improving the profile process, though, so hopefully we can clear some of these issues up. I'm not a huge fan of the GUI. I think it can be improved. Keep an eye on us, though. Things change pretty quickly around here, but the bottom line (besides profit) is matching people and helping them find companionship.

The timeline:

Sat night: See pic & read profile. Am quite impressed. Still, I know that if I sign up and write to her I'm throwing $30 in the toilet.

Sunday: Thought about how nice the profile was. Went back to see if it was the Sauza (Tequila) or if she really looked that good. Still impressed. Winked at her. Came here and started this up...

Monday 7:21pm: Broke down and signed up. Wrote to her.

Monday 8:21pm: Received response from her.

Tuesday evening: After several emails, the 1st phone call.

Wednesday evening: Cancelled match.com subscription. Talked more on phone.

Thursday: More phone & emails. We're going out Friday night.

I am real surprised that so many people meet this way. I just never even contemplated it in my single days. It is a cool concept, but only if you need this type of service.

I don't think its a matter of need. Its a matter of meeting quality girls at a bar, or meeting quality girls this way....at least for me anyway.

Most people use our service and Yahoo in addition to offline dating. For folks in the professional world (see between the ages of 35-55), we are a hit.

If you guys get married, you can become a Success Story. Not sure if you get anything for that, but it makes me happy to see it when it works out! :)

I'm sure that any time now I'm going to wake up and find out I was in a coma induced by high fever...

Friday: Post Pix K? Thnx

She may have been a bit bi polar or somethin'.

Dude, share the pic...

I will if she gives permission (or turns out to be nothing like the lovely lady she seems to be.)

As it is, that pic of me that I posted in jest used to have my ex in it. I love photoshop! (That's the only pic I removed her, not because I'm bitter or anything, but just because I love that pic & to use a pic with an ex would just be inappropriate to me.)

She posted on Match.com. She just gave the whole internet permission. You just need to tell us which one she is.

Friday night I got home and messed around on Yahoo Personals, I ended up trying to talk to this very attractive girl. She asked me a question, I answered, then she said she had to go because her friend needed to use the computer to write a paper. I was thinking that is odd that someone would write a paper at 2:30am but whatever, she is blowing me off. She asked for my email address.

Today I get an email, from I am guessing it is her. Its says stuff like the following:

"Do you remember me, we chatted the other day on Yahoo.com? We had a really
short chat while I was at my friend's house. Sorry I logged off so quickly, my friend needed to use the computer. Anyways lets pick up where we left off.."

"I strongly believe that intimacy is a very important part of a relationship, along with honesty and trust. But, I want to know someone before I become intimate. After I get comfortable with the person I'm with...then I want it all the time, hope you can handle it! hehe"

"I also have some pics on my site.. It is kind of playground while I am taking this intro to HTML class. Here is the link: xxxx I was kind of bored the other night, so I put some new pics up. Please don't give the site to anyone, it would be really embarassing if someone from work or my family saw it!"

Being the dumbass that I am, I am thinking what the hell is going on here...she was blowing me off I had thought. So here I sit at work, I decide to click the link. Doh! It's not her, and the chick is practically naked. LOL

What are the odds...

My friend had a first date the other night with somebody he met on Match.com. He left me a message that simply said "I learned something new last night - curvey means fat."

Almost average can mean fat too...

I never date someone without a picture, it's a prerequisite, especially since I got my mug up there.

Always insist on a picture. Common courtesy is that you have at least 3 pics to look at. Average usually means slightly overweight. At least from my numerous dates.

I hope the next date is "Healthy." "Healthy" must mean she hits the gym and watches what she eats, right?

The one woman I met who said she was "Healthy" did watch what she ate. The problem was that she apparently did a LOT of watching!

My new profile hook:

I think I can describe myself best by telling you a story. This story may be true, or not. I think it is, but it happened a long time ago and I've had a few blows to the head since then, so let's just say it's true. One night while I was in high school some buddies and I were driving around looking for something to do. I told him I wanted to go to this park we knew of where a number of people from different schools would go to hang out. Usually a few fights would break out there, and general rowdy behavior. Not really a place for the feint of heart. So my friend decided we could go, and since he was driving it was really his decision. He only had one condition... "If someone gets in my face, make sure you get my back, man." he said. I took a sip of beer. "Of course, dude. You're my bro." He smiled and nodded, turning the car toward the park. We got there, and the place was jumping. There had to be about one hundred high school guys there, and perhaps as many as ten girls. Definately an explosive situation. Being filled with liquid courage, I hopped out of the car and let out my best rebel yell. All eyes locked on me for a brief second, and they knew that I had arrived. My buddy was not as excited as I was. "Hey! Shut up, man! You are going to get us killed!" he groaned. "Don't worry," I said, "I've got your back." We scanned the throng for a few minutes, trying to look as cool as possible. We spotted an empty area close to some people we knew, and headed across the lot. We didn't make it very far when a group of about five guys came out of nowhere and stood before us. "Hey, what school do you guys go to?" the leader inquired. My buddy stepped up, his skinny body puffing up unimpressively. "Pearce," he said. "Cool." said the leader, and he continued on his way. My friend turned to me, but found that I was not there. I had already run away, and was hiding in the back seat of his car. He came back to the car, and we drove home...in silence.
