For a group of politicians (all of them, no one is innocent in this) that claim to want to control spending, let's just say actions speak louder than words.

Yep, unfortunately that is true. In the poll that was done last week that had Congress' approval rating at 35%, another question in the poll was what do you think of your current Congressmen. For people's own Congressmen, the approval rating was 58%.
So it is not your own Congressmen that are the problem, it's everyone else's.

Plus, it's hard to get re-elected in this climate if you come to your home state and say "Hey, I didn't get you guys any benefits but I did help cut spending from our end". And that is very unfortunate.
Until people stop voting on "what have you done for me/my industry/my interest group" and start supporting strict budget actions by their own congressman, there's no reason to think this will change. So, the onus is on the voter to change this one.

I don't think I should read that. I think it'll completely ruin my day if I read that. I'll wait until I'm in a bad mood anyway before I read it. :)

Same here. Just the thought makes me want to puke, mainly because there are so many people willing to put up with this and make excuses.
