I would love to see Jim create a college hockey sim.

Reasons why this could happen:
1. Jim lives in New Hampshire, and went to school in Michigan, two college hockey hotbeds.
2. There would be no competition. As far as I know, there are NO college hockey sims out there.

One can dream. I often dream about how it would be like to know how to ice skate. Perhaps my reflex of yelling at the TV when a goal is scored would tone itself down a little.

There is a reason for that - way too much of a niche market. "College" hockey would wipe out any foreign customers. And then there is the problem that we are talking about HOCKEY here.

Yeah....this way jim would really only have to encode about 10-12 teams. I mean, aren't the same handful of teams always fighting for the title?

Excluding ardent's Ice Vols (and their conference), I think there are only two conferences.

There are I believe 58 DI hockey teams in 6 conferences. Plus they are mostly in cold weather climates, where computer games sell better...

It would be a niche and I think could do quite well, especially with the NHL's situation.
Jim's style of programming would fit well for college hockey, imo.

I bet if it was put to a poll here at FOFC, less than 30% would be interested.

It almost definitely wouldn't sell as well as TCY2.

As much as I personally would love to see this, I would think it would be crazy for somebody to make a college hockey sim if they were planning on making a living off of the earnings from it.

I would agree with this... and for the record I know it's not feasable $$$ wise, I just wish there was something out there.

I suspect it IS feasible.
Con: 1/2 as many D1 hockey schools as football schools.
Con: Football way more popular than hockey.
Pro: No competition.
Pro: Hockey fans tend to live in cold weather climates, where computer games sell a lot better.
Pro: Hockey fans are probably more die-hard than football fans (what I mean is, there are die-hard football fans, but many many more casual football fans).
I don't know that it all balances out ... but I don't think it's impossible.

Recruits home places would have to be changed for hockey. Minnesota would have the highest number, Michigan would have a lot, Alaska and other cold states would have their fair share. The south would have a handful of recruits each year. International recruiting would be nice, Canada would be an important of recruiting especially in Quebec and Ontario. Montreal would have a ton of recruits.

As much as I love hockey (more specifically COLLEGE hockey), I can't help but think it would be a very boring sim.

It'd be as exciting as the college hockey talk around here.

I bet if it was put to a poll here at FOFC, less than 30% would be interested.Yeah, but how many would be interested if you polled USCHO? (My guess is, more than here, but probably still not enough for it to be commercially viable.)

What about the club teams? One of the most successful college hockey teams, attendance-wise, is the U of A Icecats, but they aren't D1.

Just curious - how much attendance do they get?

Just like the majority of Madden players, I don't think USCHO guys want to play a spreadsheet game without hits. Bad argument IMO.

At their peak, the Icecats were pulling in 6500+ a night. 7000 or more for a game with ASU. They are in a bit of a slump, but are still good for 3500-4000 a game.

Dola. Since they don't play on the U of A campus, they are the only U of A affiliated sport that can sell beer. That has something to do with it.
