View Full Version : Oh, how shocking. (CW's Old Employer Rant Revisited)

So, over the last several months, I've been doing consulting work to pay the bills. Not bad, I'm staying afloat.

The old defunct company, of which the two partners are "working" out of their respective homes now, called me awhile back and asked if I wanted to do some work on one of our old clients.

Eh, sure. Knowing, in the back of my head, that getting any money out of them was gonna be a colossal pain. So obviously, I am neither gung-ho nor in any particular hurry to work on this shit. I took my time, worked when I felt like it. Eventually, it got done.

I submit my bill, being exceptionally generous.

...

...

...

I send a nice, joking note informing him I'd still like to be paid.

...

...

...

I send 2 more notes and a voicemail saying I'd like to be paid.

...

...

...

Gee. How shocking. He's still avoiding me, and I'm still not paid.

Sounds like you're handling it about as well as it can be handled, though. Hope they pay up sometime soon!

Decided not to do it. More I thought about it, more I think I'd hate it.

I am however, starting school in a couple months, barring a gigantic job offer. Coffee Warlord, Radiology Technician. I will, in 2 years, zot people with X-Rays.

Maybe you should give glass blowing a try. I heard there is a school for that in Illinois.

HUGE need for Radiology Technicians, at least down in the New Orleans area. I'm fairly certain that most parts of the country have the need as well.

There is a huge need for health care professionals in general.

I think I'd leave a sternly worded voice mail followed up by a email stating that the bill is overdue and further collections will be pursued if not paid immediately.

Set them on fire. Always does the trick for me.

I have friend named Guido who could probably "collect" that debt for ya. Let me know.

"Hard to say." Huh? Well, how long do you think it will take before you check our records and get the power turned back on? "Hard to say." I see. Well, is it as hard to say as "Oh my God! Help me! There's a man in my office with a flamethrower!"

Why did you do any work for these boobs without asking for some sort of pre-payment? Especially given the history of poor treatment you've received from them.

Good luck with Rad Tech school. Phoenix always needs techs, the good ones make bank out here.

Ironically, he FINALLY contacted me today, and informed me he has money coming in tomorrow, and will be paying me with that.

Over/Under on that actually happening?

And no, I'm not surprised. S'why I took my time, and did it only when I felt like it. I knew the odds of getting paid were low. But hey, money's money.

It's like a free ride, when you've already paid.

But hey, money's money.

And fire's fire.

Burn them. BURN THEM.
