I highly recommend the original (with Colin Firth).

A few months after I first met my wife, I gave here Nick Hornby's High Fidelity (same author as Fever Pitch) and told her "everything you need to know about why men act the way they do is in here. Let me know if you have any questions." :)

Now, I didn't think the movie version of High Fidelity, with John Cusack, was bad. I thought they captured the spirit of the book well, and it survived its transplantation to Chicago.

Yeah, High Fidelity was the only one of his movies I saw, and Fever Pitch is the only one of his books I've read. And, I guess I can kind of see switching soccer to baseball and making it about the Red Sox, but why add the cheesy romantic comedy? And I always thought the book was more about how he doesn't fit into 'normal' society, but the commercials make it seem like this woman is trying to adjust to him and HIS community is upheld as the norm. Oh, and Drew Barrymore as an accountant? Right.

I won't see that movie just because they allowed Fallon and that chick on the field during the real World Series celebration. I also won't see it because I have kids and thus no movie-going life, but if I could, I'd spend that $15 elsewhere.

A couple of the guys in my league were cast in the movie. They had open casting as extra ballplayers. One guy in my league is the one who throws the pitch when Drew Barrymore gets tagged with a foul ball. I would've gone, but they had open casting during the day and I...well...work.

Ditto. Although I blame Sox management for allowing it, I think it was a bs move. Also, seeing Fallon in a Red Sox cap made it a no-brainer.

A weird thing to me is that the Farrellys had the movie planned for Boston to lose and Fallon to I guess "choose" Barrymore, but when the Red Sox started winning they had to change the whole ending.

Arsenal wins toward the end of the original, so I guess they made it closer to the book, even thought they didn't want to.

Another funny thing is the boxcover of the Colin Firth version. It's a naked woman with a pair of cleats hanging over her chest, and the catch line on the box says "There's more than one way to score!" WTF? I guess they wanted to trick guys into renting it.

I thought Damon did a decent job of it, although, I had pictured someone much older. Same thing with Jack Ryan and Afleck, if you scratch the decent job part.

I saw it on Saturday, and I enjoyed it. It had some pretty funny moments, and the story was nice, if predictable. I thought Fallon and Barrymore pulled their characters off pretty well.

I'll agree with Chief. The movie was harmless, and was not nearly the ass raping many envisioned it would be. Fallon almost made me remember why I occasionally found him funny on SNL. But damn, Barrymore just keeps getting uglier and uglier.
