Just wondering if anyone has played this one and what kind of reviews are out there. Is there anything like it that might be better. Thanks.

I liked it. They have at demo at galciv.com so you can always give it a whirl. Gal Civ 2 is in Beta, looks to be much improved in the graphics department.
As far as spaced based civ stuff it is probably one of the better ones.

Yeah, looks like in the future all we'll have is GalCiv 2 or Space Empires V
I liked GalCiv overall, the only things I didn't like about it is that ships weren't customizable and there were a lot of technologies that did absolutely nothing

Computer Games - Can you give us your main goals for making Galactic Civilizations II?
Brad Wardell - The main goals for the sequel were to:
a) Give players the ability to design their own, very unique looking, ships.
b) Have the player's worlds be unique and have much more depth to how the planets were managed than in the first game.
c) Put the planets on the main galactic map.
d) Use a 3D engine so that we could provide far more visual options for the player.
e) Let the player play as any civilization (not just as the humans).

Thanks for the responses so far. There was a game someone mentioned recently that had a ton of customized ships or fleets available. Anyone remember what that game was?

I played the demo and thought it a very competant and playable/balanced game, however for some reason it didn't grab me in the way that normal 'Civ' does ....
Definitely worth giving the demo a whirl at the very least.
