View Full Version : Who needs Manning?

In my current new FOF game, I've just replaced the aging Edgerrin James with a RB I picked up with the #29 pick (Claude Durham). He's a good RB, not great though, just sort of average for a starter I guess. His rookie season he struggled to 1088 yards on a 4.00 average and scored 4 TD's. I won't mention his receiving because it'll make me cry.

Anyway, it didn't much matter as I was playing the Colts and had the Manning-Harrison connection going in full force (his rookie year, they had 4,507 32 TD's and 1823 with 14 TD's, respectively.) So the new year dawns and Manning and Harrison are once again playing pass and catch. Through the first 6 games of the season Durham only gets over 100 once, and normally gets around 80 yards and an average of 3.7 something.

Not to impressive.

Then he exploded. Three straight games with 200+ yards, and the next one after that he had a paltry 196!

What happened was, Manning got a big lead so quick, that the second half of the game was Durham time. He ended the season with 2110 yards and 19 TD's

What I was wondering is...have you ever seen a RB, especially one on a pass happy team, have such a dominant stretch? 3 straight games with 200+ yards (and one more with 196). I was shocked, to be honest, I'd never seen somebody on my game go on such a tear...even Manning normally doesn't...he just gets a consistent high 200's, low 300's. (except during those games, where he started handing off at around 180.)

What was Durham's playing time set at? 9? That is pretty impressive regardless. What was his volatility?

It's 22, and his PT was set at 6 first part of the year, and 7 towards the end.

Craig Terrell finished with 492 yards, he was my #2 RB. I had 2750 yards total team rushing, Manning himself had 140 something, and 2 TD's.

In the eNFL multiplayer league, Curtis Martin had a similar run. He wasn't highly rated either. He had a five game string of 158, 229, 216, 208, and 168. He also had games of 121, 104, 156, 215, and 153.

Totals: 472-2167, 4.59 ypc, 12 tds,
43 rec, 372 yards, 4 tds.

Pretty good. All in all, Durham rushed 393 times for 2110 (5.36 avg.) and 19 TD's (3 receiving TD's too)

I went 15-1 and finally won the superbowl! Been knocked out by Houston three years in a row. Damn Texans. :(

I have never had a guy go for over 1600 yards by himself in the season, but one time I had a QB toss for 4000 yards, 2 1000+ yard rushers[one guy would get the yards while it was close, and the other guy would come in at the end, his breakaway speed was 99 and he broke alot of long runs. The primary guy also missed a couple of games in the season. I believe in the end the primary guy ended with about 1500 and the backup about 1200]. On top of all that my QB ran for 750 yards, and one of my WR's caught 27 TDs. It was really an unbelieveable year. We ended up 19-0 and won the super bowl. The team didn't stay together after that, the QB and WR were both free agents and got huge contracts, forcing me to scrap both RB's.

The eNFL Bucs were not a pass-happy team, though.

In the FFL, my Detroit Lions are a pass-happy team. We spent our first pick in the allocation draft on Brett Favre, who despite his age, is the best QB in the league. We took WRs Jimmy Smith and Derrick Mason in the 4th and 5th round, and were ready to take the league by storm with our air attack.

But the same thing happened with us. We took the lead early several times, and Charlie Garner, drafted in the 15th round or so, is on pace for a 200 yard season (with 8 games played). Of course, it helps that we spent picks 2, 3, 6, 7, and 8 on the O-line. But the point is that Favre leads the league in passer rating, but is nowhere near the league leader in passing yards, and Garner is on top of the league in rushing yards. I don't know his numbers offhand, but I don't think he's had any 200 yard games, though.

Wow, a 200 yard season! That is impressive.

Well, for Charlie Garner that's pretty impressive, wouldn't you say?
