Warren Sapp never mails it in.

Letters his fans sent, however, might become the latest in fetish memorabilia.

A Florida company has a 5-pound box of unopened mail sent by fans of the former Buccaneer, The Tampa Tribune reported in Wednesday's editions.

Kincaid Auction Co. will sell materials from PSC Collectibles, a sports memorabilia distributor that filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. The auctioneers are checking whether they can legally sell the letters.

"Of course, under our license, we can't do anything that's against the law," Randy Kincaid told the paper. "But we feel quite certain that [the box of fan mail addressed to Sapp] is legitimately owned by the party we got it from."

Kenny Lindsay, president of American Eagle Auction & Appraisal Co. in Livonia, Mich., looked at the inventory.

"It's a bittersweet find simply because you feel bad for the fans who took the time to write Mr. Sapp and got nothing in return," Lindsay told the Tribune. "On the other hand, this is a spectacular and one-of-a-kind collection for the sports memorabilia enthusiast.

"It took me a minute to comprehend exactly what I was looking at," Kincaid added. "... All the mail is dated from 2001, when Sapp played with the Bucs."

This is just odd. Why would someone buy this?

Isn't it illegal for someone to open up mail that isn't addressed to them?

I believe it is, unless the person whom it was addressed to gives their concent. If you buy the collection but don't open any letters, is it still illegal?

And I'm sure Sapp will give his consent without asking for any money....

Without Sapp's written authorization, anyone opening those letters has committed a felony.

Now, if these people can show a letter of consent from Sapp, then everything's fine.

How many people that buy these things are going to wait for a letter of consent before tearing it open to see what some fan had to say to Mr. Fat-mouth?

First of all, why doesn't Sapp have a few folks who actually open fan letters and send them back photos or some dumb canned response? I'm not sure what other NFL stars do, but Sapp could easily hire a couple of folks to respond to fan mail for him. Wouldn't take much and it could make a bunch of little kids happy when they receive a response (even if it wasn't really from him).

Second, who would really want this garbage? Then again ... there are probably a few naked pics that female fans sent in to entice him .... Hmmm... when does this go up for bid again?
