During the Green Bay Packers weekly press conference on Friday, Coach Mike Sherman announced that in 2005 the Packers will wear a redesigned uniform. The first major redesign in over 40 years, the new unifoems promise to be exciting, according to Sherman. "The time is right for a change. I am very excited about a new era of Packers football with an exciting new uniform."

New General Manager Ted Thompson added that the new design will be unveiled during tomorrows NFL draft. "As we usher in a new draft class, we will begin the next great era in Packers football." Thompson said the time was right to finally make a significant change to uniforms that had stayed the same for decades. Focus groups of fans were quizzed to find the right combination. “We kept enough of the tradition but we made enough of a change that it is a change,” Thompson said.

While the complete uniform design will not be seen until tomorrow, Thompson and Sherman talked about the exciting new color scheme and slight change in the team's logo. "This is Green Bay, so Green will obviously still be the primary color for the Packers." according to Thompson. "But studies showed us that yellow is mostly associated with fear. Since the Green Bay Packers fear nobody a change has been made."

The changes were most easily seen in the helmet, which has gone from solid yellow with a green "G" to black with a bright green "G". The new black jerseys have a bright green stripe going down the sides. Black will replace the yellow previously worn on the pants. Each set of pants still has stripes down the side, but now they taper toward the bottom. Bright green piping will be featured on the uniforms, much in the same way as Seattle has on their recent redesign.

The new "G" logo has been italicized, and given a "flame" treatment to create excitement. The jerseys will feature a similar upgrade in both the numbering, and the name featured on the back.

Thompson admitted he wasn’t sure if the new uniforms would ever come to be. Once the players saw them Thursday for the first time, Thompson knew that the time was right. “Favre really liked the old, classic uniform, but he really seems excited about the change,” said Thompson. “It was definitely time for a change.”

Sherman was reminded that the new jerseys are made from “high-performance materials” that provides “stretchability to run faster.”

The uniforms aren’t going to score points or sack the quarterback, but the players understand the move is part of a larger trend.

Then Sherman added with a smile, “With the high-performance material, whatever excuses that were left are erased. I’m not one to blame a uniform, but if anyone did, that’s gone too.”

Oh god, please tell me this is a joke. I don't even like Green Bay, but there's some things you just don't mess with.

File this under I didn't know. Flame treatments create excitement. Nevermind a playoff win.

Obviously there isn't one, but if there were a team that couldn't spell Copyright I'd expect it to be Green Bay.

Yup. I made a bad joke. But I did it to symbolize how fucking ridiculous this craze of changing uniforms is. If the Pack, Bears, Redskins, Raiders, Cheifs, or any teams with a nice, classic look do the unthinkable...

I'm just laughing at my Lions. Black was the craze a decade ago. From what I have seen, pink is the new black. All these wanna-be gangster kids who wear their baseball caps sideways and their pants around their knees seem to be wearing pink lately. How long until some team goes "pink" on thei unis?

Studies showed that, huh? Like, you didn't just assume that was the case, you yellow coward?!

I want in on the uniform colors study business in my next career...

EDIT: I shoulda known...

Yeah, if there was any line to really give it away it was what you quoted. The Packers fear anyone who comes into Lambaeu in the playoffs.

BJ, that was absolutely a brilliant parody. Too bad there's marketing folks and designers that would eat this shit up.

I guess the North Plainfield Plague will be suing the Packers for copyright infringement.

Just to avoid any confusion, this is a joke - see post #8 above:

I admit I fell for this one, and even complained to my father that this was probably the dumbest idea I had ever heard. Good job, BigJohn.

Thanks. I wonder what would have been said if I had taken the time to do what I originally had thought... I was going to do a photoshop-job and show the "new" uniform. I couldn't find the right shots of Favre though...

Oh, and some parts of this were blatantly stolen from an article announcing the Cardinals uni "upgrade"

Yeah. I am sure if I had been here and read this, I would have caught on to it fast enough. But hearing this on the phone, from my wife, I was buying it from the begining. The whole black jersey thing was somewhat believeable, and it wasn't until the flaming G part in which I started to ask if this was fake, oh gawd it has to be fake right?
:(

lol. A truely classic parody.....

Yep, had me going as well...but only because I would expect no less in the real world. Sad that this was able to come off as believable, when you think about it.
