Not sure if that will be the case but I am very happy with the pick. Benson is a workhorse. Below is a site of some highlight videos of Bensons career. They're big downloads but well worth it if you're a Bears fan.

Ya Know.. i'm still trying to figure out why cedric benson was bitching during his interview with andrea kramer.. this selection process disappointed me? wtf man.. you are a good player, but the nfl draft is a needs driven selection.

I wouldn't call it bitching but more less heart. His interview wasn't the greatest but he showed passion imo.

Cedric has never been one to give stock answers in an interview.
I think he will be a great workhorse for the Bears. They have a long tradition of great running backs, and he should fit in well with their power running scheme.
He was talking about the Dolphins...

IMO Benson should be happy he was selected before the Caddy.

I don't know, Enis put up pretty respectable numbers in college.
228 for 1363 19 TD
224 for 1210 13 TD

Benson has too many miles on him already, he'll be out of the league in 3 years. And if he's not and you come back and bump this thread then you are a really cool dude.

his interview was so embarassing i had to turn it off. he really has a knack for saying the wrong thing. why in the world would anybody shy away from him because of ricky williams. the nfl teams interview these guys. in 2 minutes of an interview he either reminds you of ricky williams or he doesn't. if people were comparing him to ricky williams as he said it must have been because he sounded and acted like ricky williams. i know very little about him but i have to say that if i were the chicago bears watching that interview i would be more than a little worried about this guy. he might turn out to be great but right now i would be worried.

Whats so embarassing about the interview, if people were comparing me unfavorably to someone i saw no similarity to, I would be mad about it as well. He seemed emotional and a bit exhausted that the process was now over. Thats real life, or maybe you all would rather hear the teleprompter answers of..."Well Im just happy to be drafted I want to help the team in any way possible"...blah blah blah

Yeah, Green Bay's had an awful track record with QBs. I mean Favre, Brunell, Aaron Brooks, Hasselbeck and being the first to bring in Kurt Warner. They should really take a lesson from Chicago on identifying QB talent. I mean, how can you argue with guys like Moses Moreno, Cade McNown, Rex Grossman and Craig Krenzel?

Why? Brooks puts up big numbers every year and led the Saints to their first playoff win ever. Brunell did some great things in Jacksonville. He is old and useless as a player now, but he used to be a very good QB for a few years.

Although Lynn Dickey who you also forgot had a good career :)

Call me crazy, but I find this pick hard to take after a season when Chicago finally had a good back on board. Jones had a pretty good year, and word is that Smith & Co., want to run a passing offense with the RB taking part. On that front, Jones did a good job of catching the ball and doing something with it.
Let us not forget that everything he did, he did in the face of 8-man fronts and in the context of a horrific passing attack.
O-Line is probably the last part of the team that needs serious help. I think it would have been a better idea to address that, assuming they still think Grossman can cut it.
Anyway, we'll see.

Actually that was the paln with Terry Shea but the pan has changed and now they want more of a running offense with Ron Turner.

I will second this. Brunell and Brooks aren't Farve, but they were productive for years on their team.

Yeah, now that Turner's here, they want more of a power back. Someone like Anthony Thomas. But not Anthony Thomas, since they had already released him.

The very little I know about their similarities is this: they went to Texas, carried heavy loads, and liked to smoke pot. However, I'm not sure whether Benson enjoys roaming Asia during football season.

Fired, and replaced with Turner, who they fired years ago.

No way Benson is a Sayers- or Payton-level performer.
But he could give you 8,000+ yards over his 6 good years, which is good value, IMO.

Actually, if he hits those numbers, he'd surpass Sayers, who ran 991 times for 4956 yards over seven seasons.

Right. And if Benson does it on 1,000 carries you might be right about surpassing Sayers.
Benson will not be near 5 yards per carry. 4.0 is more like it.

So riddle me this:
If we're looking for a power, banging, 'tween the tackles type, why not re-sign A. Thomas and use the pick on a guard under 45 years old? Or one of the top notch WR's? Or someone who can cover at the corner? Or an OLB that knows where to find the pocket? They seem to be using a very expensive draft pick to replace a guy that wanted to come back anyway. I bet Benson's cap # is 150% of Thomas' and they still have holes all over.

Benson may or may not be the Bears next great RB but Kyle Orton seems to be the Bears next great QB.
Bears | Project Orton as Potential Starter - from www.KFFL.com
Mon, 25 Apr 2005 12:12:05 -0700
Terry Bannon, of the Chicago Tribune, reports the <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/11/nfl">Chicago Bears project QB Kyle Orton (http://www.kffl.com/player/11298/nfl), the club's 2005 fourth-round draft choice, as a potential starter in the future. However, head coach Lovie Smith (http://www.kffl.com/player/8316/nfl) assured that QB Rex Grossman (http://www.kffl.com/player/5889/nfl) is the team's current starter. "Make no mistake about, Rex is our guy," Smith said.

Orton certainly can't be any worse than Hutchinson or Krenzel.
I smell QB controversy if Rex gets hurt/sucks.
if Orton is a potential starting QB, this team is way worse off than I thought.
