I just spent 10 minutes looking for the thread we had devoted to the TV-B-Gone thing, the device you could buy that turns of TV's around you. I said I liked the idea (especially when roommate is watching Dr. Phil or Oprah), but I'd rather make my own. And, lo and behold, today I found a hack you can put together pretty easily to make your own from an old cell phone. http://www.beatdevice.com/blogs/wwajd/index.php?title=the_cellphone_that_killed_your_tv&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

MUCH better (and cheaper) than carrying around a big box. ;)

Why would you turn off the television when someone else is watching it?

Because you are full of spite and malice.

that's being a bad roommate.

I'd take your stuff if you started turning off the tv.

Because it's DR. PHIL AND OPRAH.
And, really, I need to do something to piss off my roommate, lord knows he's pissed me off more than I need.

Wait a second. I haven't been following all these threads all too closely, but isn't your roommate some 6'7", 300+ lbs. ninja-kung fu-black belt karate type guy? And he spends his afternoons watching Dr. Phil and Oprah? What the hell? Who is this freakish thing?

Yes he's a 6'7" almost second degree black belt in Tang Soo Do. And he watches Dr. Phil and Oprah. And WORSHIPS them. Even though he's got a girlfriend, if he one day comes out of the closet it wouldn't shock me in the least.

Is it like the Israeli cell phone jammers where it's illegal in the US?

EDIT: Curse those infernal laws- otherwise I'd just spend my days walking around campus and shutting off people's stupid calls. Or going into grocery stores and cutting off people right after "I'll be home in.." because, really, who needs to call and loudly say they'll be home in five minutes. And then wait until they invariably try to call back and do it again, until I'm bored

"The radar...it's jammed sir."

"Raspberry...who dares give me the raspberry?"

"Lonestar!"
