This show is like food porn. It's great. I've totally become addicted. To the point where I can parrot what the announcer says at various times and I get a little thrill from the theme music. Any other Iron Chef addicts here at FOFC? I watch it...pretty much every night.

Iron Chef has been one of my all-time favorite television shows, and my girlfriend and I watch it almost every night. I've even got a t-shirt.

Iron Chef America is a blasphemous travesty.

so who will win battle onion? As an aside, does anyone know of any websites? the only ones i can seem to find seem to have been shut down. Iron Chef America is a blasphemy yes, but I'll still watch it. Especially when my boy Ming Tsai (whose restraunt is like 1/2 mile from my house and who is a regular customer of mine) was on. damn he smoked bobby flay and it was SWEET!!! now if i can only get him to make me some of that foie grais creme brulee!

Mario Batali went to Rutgers. I think he used to make strombolis at Stuff Yer Face.

One of my problems with Iron Chef America is that it's so snide and self-aware...there's no real joy or fun in it. Plus the "chairman" is embarassing. And if Bobby Flay were any more self-involved and arrogant I don't think he'd need an oven to cook...the food would flambe itself from proximity to his self-love.

Give me Sakai and the fortune-teller any day of the week. :)

ICA isn't bad.. kinda weird the the chairman is Chairman Kaga's nephew in real life..

I think there's too much "One bite" foods on ICA (3 or 4 on one dish)

dola...

Oh, and Battle Onion is going to go to Sakai. He's a god among chefs.

Oh.. if you have BitTorrent and a high speed connection, there's a group that vidcaps the episodes and put them up. Search for DigitalDistractions.org, I think that's the group.

I download them off TorrentSpy.

IC America isn't as good because they don't have truly wild foods as the feature ingredient.

I dunno.. Choccolate and Coconut (with 2-3 dishes having to be main dishes, not desserts) was pretty out there.

Oh.. good news.

From IronFans

Recently got work Iron Chef America has been picked up for 14 new episodes.

Production will start soon on the new shows, still with Alton Brown and Kevin Brauch.

Stay tuned!

I like how Michiba-San always made the broth of vigor with the dried benito shavings...

My wife is an Iron Chef fanatic. She refuses to even watch the "bastardization" as she calls ICA. We haven't yet tried the Iron Chef Drinking Game, but just give me time...

Just be careful which BDJ you get as a judge. Get the wrong one, and if you follow the drinking game, you will be headed to the hospital to get your stomach pump.

(BDJ=Bimbo Du Jour.. the ones who are bubbleheaded and just gush about the food without saying anything of substance)

Heyyy...I've got it! Front Office: Iron Chef !Heh...I'd go along with the FOF selection. :)

But Sakai was supreme. If I remember correctly, he only lost 9 times in the entire Iron Chef run. So if you catch an episode with him losing, savor it...it's as rare as the freakin' strawberry battle that has a clip at the beginning of every episode but hardly ever airs.

Flay sucks. It was great seeing Ming Tsai smoke him. What Iron Chef America needs is an Ohta Faction.

NoMyths

hehe...yeah, who'd serve for the Ohta faction in ICA? The Carabbas guys?

Here's the IC Stats.

There have been a total of 297 battles at the time of publication for the book above (in 2000). These stats are printed in the book.

First French IC Yutaka Ishinabe (green outfit) won 88% of his battles. He had a total of 8 battles, won 7 and lost 1. No ties. He lost 1 battle to Jacques Borie in Battle Chicken.

First Japanese IC Rokusaburo Michiba (blue outfit) won 84% of the time. He had a total of 38 battles, winning 32, losing 5, 1 tie.

Chinese IC Chen Kenichi (yellow outfit) won 73% of his battles. He had a total of 92 battles, won 67, lost 22, and tied 3 times.

Second French IC Hiroyuki Sakai (red outfit) won 81% of the time. He had 86 total battles, won 70, lost 15, and tied once.

Second Japanese IC Koumei Nakamura (purple outfit) won 67% of his battles. He had a total of 37 battles, 24 wins, 11 losses and 1 tie.

Italian IC Katsuhiro Kobe (red/green outfit) won 65% of his battles. He had 23 total battles, 15 wins, 7 losses and 1 tie. He is the only IC to have lost his debut battle. But he is 1 of 3 IC to never lose in consecutive battles (Ishinabe and Michiba were the other 2).

Third Japanese IC Masaharu Morimoto (silver outfit) won 67% of all his battles. He had 24 battles total, 16 wins, 7 losses and 1 tie.

While it's not quite the same, I kindof like ICA. Anyone watch the hideous and short lived Iron Chef America that was on, I believe, UPN- that was hideous and unwatchable. This one they try to be a lot more true to the original and still try to retain some of the camp, tho that's tough to reproduce.

Still, Chen forever! :)

Mario Batali went to Rutgers. I think he used to make strombolis at Stuff Yer Face.

He's speaking at Rutgers College graduation this year. I get the President of Verizon at my business graduation; my liberal arts friends get a red-headed cook.

I know we've talked about this before but with my wife and I being huge fans of the Food Network, we are of the opinion that IC is the most unwatchable show on. I fully understand that the appeal that it is sort of like an anti-cooking show, appealing more to casual fans of food than the typical snobby shows. We had started to watch ICA because of our favorites like Batali and Flay. But it is still over-the-top as my wife and I strongly prefer shows like Best Of..., Unwrapped and Great American Food Festivals. More relatable.

I love the original IC. Sakai is my all time favorite chef on that show. The most creative dish I ever saw him make was Trout Ice cream. I dont think it went over well, and I believe it was one of the ep's that he lost, but it was still a cool thought.

I havent watched enough of ICA to get an idea of how good it is. I dont like it quite as much even if I am an Alton Brown fanboy. I think its just because the ingredients are much more well known to me.

I wish that the would have like normal people be a judge on the show. Maybe they could even turn it into a contest or something. Or even if they didnt allow them to judge, allow a normal person to get an oppurtunity to taste it. Maybe pick someone out of the audience. Thats my biggest turn off to the show, is you only get judges that are either rich, famous or both.
