Just a quick question for you guys. I'm looking to renegotiate some of my better players contracts to free up some cap room for the upcoming season, so I can add a few free agents. But before I do I was wanting someone to explain bonuses to me. Let's say that a player has a current salary of $3,730,000 for 2004 with a $1,770,000 bonus. After trying to renegotiate, he is looking for $950,000 for '04 and a $6,550,000. So is this contract really just going to eat up more cap because of the higher bonus? I will post the full life of the contract below.
Example (Current)
Year........Base salary; Bonus
1st year $3,730,000 million; $1,770,000
2nd year $4,650,000 million; $1,770,000
3rd year $5,580,000 million; $1,770,000
4th year $6,790,000 million; $1,770,000
Example (Renegotiated)
