I saw it last night.
I was laughing through much of the movie. I confess that I haven't read any of the books in ages, so that may have helped my enjoyment--some of the nitty gritty details that may have been overlooked weren't so blatant to me.

I enjoyed it, I recommended it to my dad. And, most likely, when it comes to DVD I'll purchase it. :)

I agree with this 100% - I liked the movie, but the love interest which was almost a side issue in the book, became "THE" issue of the movie. I also thought there wasn't enough Marvin (though rickman does a great job on his voice)

I walked out of the movie with a feeling of....."meh". It was interesting to see some of the stuff I read in the book, but it skipped through things so quickly and told so much of the story in a different order. It wasn't a bad movie, but it wasn't good either.

I wonder if some people here realize that the movie may not have been based off the book... ie, it wasn't the first iteration of Hitchhiker's Guide ;).

My wife and I watched it last night and both of us were disappointed. I was even tempted to get up and walk out of the movie and I have never done that.

I loved the books and was hoping for something with a similar feel, but what I got was another insipid Hollywood movie that tried too hard to make me laugh. And the "love" angle? Made me want to puke. That's what made me want to get up and leave. That and the fact that a good portion of the movie was incredibly boring.

I have read the book, listened to the BBC radio play, and watched the BBC mini-series. All versions are different, but they are all fairly similar. The movie was really quite a bit different. This wouldn't have been so bad, but they cut out most of the explanations of everything, and they cut out a lot of the funny conversations.

As a fantasy/sci-fi geek, I can't believe that I've never read any of the books. I just always put it off.

I think I'll pick up the first one after I'm done with my current book.
