So I wake up this morning before work, and im going to pay my cell phone bill online, so i look at my bank site, and see my balance is at -$1,252.56...Now I think its a mistake at first so i call the bank, they say its right...somethings wrong here, I had $500 in their yesterday, turns out someone hacked into my computer, got my password for a site i used to buy things online and ran up the bill..Now my bank is being cooperative, but the site i use to buy things online is being total dicks, even though this actual conversation occurred between me and the help person.

Him : Whats your name sir?
Me: Kevin Mitchell
Him: Thats not what we have on here, whats your phone number
Me: (my phone number)
Him: ok thats right, whats your address
Me: (my address)
Him: thats not right either, are you sure thats where you live and thats your name?
Me: I'm pretty sure that I would know my address and name, I'm not that dumb. Isn't it obvious someone changed all that, including the password so I could no longer log in?
Him: Well some people get mistaken.

Is it not obvious enough that someone hacked in and changed everything so that it would ship to them or one of their friends? I managed to call and speak to the biggest idiot in the company, lucky me. So they are saying I will have to pay the money, meanwhile, my bank is telling me the money will be put into my new checking account that i had to open within 10 days. Such a fucking ordeal because the site i go to cant just stop the payments that havent even gone through yet. GEEEZ!!!

You're using your checking account to buy things online? This is what a Visa card is for. That way if someone steals the card, they aren't playing with your money, and it's much easier to challenge the purchases.

I agree here. You have soooo much less to lose by using a regular credit card, rather than a bank card.

All the Visa logo on a check card does is let you use the card in places that ordinarily wouldn't accept anything but the major credit cards, such as Visa, MasterCard, etc. It does absolutely nothing for you in terms of fraud protection.

Just about every bank that offers VISA check cards offers fraud protection with them.

I've had mine ripped off and used, and the money was put back in a few days.

I use Bank One and when I lost my check card/ATM card, they refunded my money in about a week after I went through the paperwork. The assholes who took it went to Home Depot twice, gas stations, and other stuff to run me into a few hundred dollars worth of debt.

Actually, you get exactly the same fraud protection with a Visa check card. The difference is that when it takes 30 days to sort out everything on a credit card account, you still have money to pay your bills, etc. When it takes 30 days to sort everything out with a card linked to your checking account, not having them reverse the charges right away is more of a problem. But, if it says VISA on it, you get the same fraud protection.

Hmmmm, well, my bank was quick to give me temporary reimbursement while they did their investigation...hopefully you get as lucky.
