For the past 5 years, the Orioles have been pretty bad. I always try to watch as many games as possible, but usually by June we are out of it and those games are too frustrating to watch much of anymore. I can't tell you how many times we've taken a lead in to the late innings, only to give up that big hit that costs us the game. It seems like they Yankees were always doing it to us. We have consistently blown late leads against them over that span. Not to mention everyone else.
Now it seems things have shifted a bit. It's now us that are consistently getting those clutch hits in the late innings. Whether it's Roberts, Tejada, or Mora, it seems like one of them (or all of them) are getting it done when it counts. Throw in a nice young pitching staff, a surprisingly solid Bruce Chen, and a good bullpen lead by B.J. Ryan, and dem O's are the talk of the town right now. It's been a long time since Baltimore baseball fans have been this excited about baseball. Throw in the fact that they Yankees are struggling, and Steinbrenner is pissed, only makes things that much better.
Yesterday...
Eric Bedard gives up a run in the top of the 8th to the Blue Jays. Down 1-0 to Roy Halladay in the bottom of the inning, Brian Roberts leads off with a single. One out later, Miguel Tejada singles him to second. Sammy Sosa then rips a grounder down the 3rd baseline. Roberts scores, Tejada runs past Tom Trebelhorn's stop sign, and scores to take a 2-1 lead. Palmeiro is I-walked, and Javy Lopez hits a 3-run homer. B.J. Ryan comes in to finish the 9th, and we win 5-1.
