The University of Memphis marketing department has finally done something right. The DeAngelo Williams Heisman campaign is a pretty cool idea, if I must say so myself.

I do not think he has much of a chance to win the thing but the campaign is a good idea.

It's going to go to Matt Leinart.

It'll go to Reggie Bush before Matt Leinart.

Or they'll cancel each other out and it'll be Spencer Havner...

Do you think it is possible for a RB to win the Heisman if he is on a mediocre (say, mid-major, not Top 25) team, yet breaks records? Like, if he was on a 6-6 team yet broke the single season D1-A rushing mark. Shouldn't he win?

I am actually interested in this in a funny way, because in my NCAA 2005 season with UTEP, my team is 6-1 and like 41 nationally, with my RB having rushed for something like 1400 yards already.. but he isn't a top 5 heisman canidate.

Barring an injury, DeAngelo Williams will set the Divison 1-A record championship.

No. See Davis, Troy...

To add further insult, he finished second to Danny Wuerffel. Gah. At least the Saints can say that they drafted the top two Heisman finishers from the same year.

He won't go pro after this year?

EDIT: Nevermind, thought he was only a Junior this coming season.

I don't think Bush will win as long as he's the second leading rusher on the team. But if White leaves and goes to the supplemental draft (due to off the field issues) Bush should get a lot more touches.

Very cool idea. It will help some, and I can see him getting it, if he has a breakout season. I don't see anyone from USC getting it as they are pretty much team oriented, and Bush and Leinart work as a tandem.

I worked on the Brandon Doman Heisman Hype CD, which was called the Domanator...Resembled the Gladiator DVD. My 15 minutes of fame was ESPN showing it on national T.V. when BYU played Air Force....

I can still remember the Joey Harrington painting they put up on the side of some giant building in NYC hyping him for the heisman. At the time I had no clue who he was (being an east coaster), but I have to admit it worked ... as I can still recall the mural.

Not a chance, unfortunately.

Breakout season, this guy has been an absolute stud the last two seasons! Not to mention that opposing defenses basically focus on stopping him!

What exactly is a "record championship"?

Mediocre team in a BCS conference - yes, there is a chance (ref: Ricky Williams/Barry Sanders)
Mediocre team in a non-BCS conference - no way
Great team in a non-BCS conference - less of a chance than a mediocre team in a BCS conference (ref: Alex Smith, Chad Pennington, Randy Moss)

Something a UTEP running back will never know about. That is records or championships. http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif

I think it's possible albeit unlikely. Marshall Faulk came pretty close.

He finished 2nd and 4th in the voting on a 5-5-1, 6-6 team in the Mountain West. The year he came in second he had over 1000 points in the voting which is pretty impressive on a .500 team but he still lost to the over glorified QB syndrome (in this case I believe it was Gino Toretta).

SDSU was still in the WAC when Faulk was there, thank you very much.
