-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Like the three previous years Brøndby have this year again decided to host their own mini cup-tournament before the start of the regular season. With Brøndby good results in last years champions league some of the world’s best teams was suddenly available this summer. Therefore it’s possible for Brøndby this year to announce some huge names among the teams that will play in the BIF Cup the 7July-8july in Brøndby stadium. The line-up for the 2007 BIF Cup will look like this:

Barcelona
Chelsea
Monaco
Brøndby

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Onside.dk can today confirm that Brøndby have put in an offer of £1mil for AGFs DM Leon Andreasen. No other details about the offer have yet been made available. Leon Andreasen would take over as the BIF defensive midfielder from 33-year old Kim Daugaard if the transfer goes true. Other Danish clubs is expected to join the hunt of the promising midfielders’ services in the days to come. That could very well drive up the price and make Leon Andreasen the most expensive player sold between two Danish clubs.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A spokesperson from the Brøndby (BIF) front office today confirmed that the US Football Association have offered BIF manager Thomas Northwood the job as manager for the US national team. The job became available when Bruce Arena was fired after the loss in the final of the Confederation Cup.
No other details were made available but it’s assumed that if he takes the job he will also keep his current possession with BIF. Questions have already been raised among the Brøndby fans if the travel activity needed in this job would have a negative effect on Northwood’s work in Brøndby.
No comments have yet been released from Thomas Northwood.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brøndby IF have today decided to double the bid on DM Leon Andreasen from £1mil to £2mil. Its still £300.000 less then the FC København offer but Brøndby still hopes to have a chance to secure the service from the popular player. This can look like a huge gamble for Brøndby as they commit more then half their transfer budget on this one player.

Brøndby – FC Barcelona 1-0 / (0-0)
Brøndby opened the new season against mighty Barcelona and once again made headlines. In the remaining half hour Barcelona presses on to get the equalizing goal with Brøndby being dangerous on counterattacks. Barcelona never got the goal and Brøndby is now ready for the final in the 3rd BIF Cup. It has to be mentioned that Barcelona rested some of their biggest stars in this game and only played them for 45 minutes. That don’t take anything away from Brøndbys win and they also won the shots stats 14-8.

Headline: Thomas Northwood turn down the US
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In an interview with a Danish newspaper Brøndby manager Thomas Northwood confirms that he have turned down the job offer from the US national team. He stated his limited knowledge of American soccer and the amount of travelling necessary as the main reasons to turn down the job. He went on to say that he still had ambitions about taking over a national team if an opening would turn up in the future.
Northwood’s reputation in Europe has been growing after the Brøndby teams’ performance last year in the Champions League and the three straight league titles. It’s rumoured that several clubs in England and central Europe is interested in taking Thomas Northwood away from Brøndby to see what he could do with a bigger transfer budget.

BIF Cup 3rd place game:
Monaco – FC Barcelona 0-0p / (0-0)
The match for 3rd place was not much to see. The two teams took it as a light training and finished without any of the teams was able to score. In the following penalty shootout Monaco showed most skills and took home 3rd place in the BIF Cup in front of Barcelona.

BIF Cup Final:
Brøndby – Chelsea 0-0p / (0-0)
A stunning 31.717 showed up to watch the final between Brøndby and Chelsea. That’s just 20 persons short of the stadium record set back in 2006 when Brøndby played FC København for the title. It was a close match with chances to score the deciding goal for both teams. Eidur Gudjohnsen had the biggest chances for Chelsea and for Brøndby Peter Grandlund came closest. After 90 minutes the match was still tied at 0-0 and penalty’s was needed. No less then 9 players from each team was needed before Andreas Hinkel was able to decide the game to Chelsea’s advantage.

Headline: New Brazilian player in Brøndby
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With the signing of 20 year old Wellington from Fortaleza Brøndby now got three Brazilians players on the roster. Striker Wellington will start out in the reserves team and is a long term investment for Brøndby. Here he will team up with fellow Brazilian Jaja who arrived in Brøndby back in 2004/5. Jackson is the last Brazilian on the Brøndby roster and he has spent his time in Denmark as a backup for the first team.
Brøndby also inform that they have not been able to agree on new contracts with Morten Skoubo and Martin Retov. Both players have contract ending within the next year but the high wage demands from the players makes it difficult for Brøndby. Hopefully the two parts can find a solution soon as the two key players will be very hard for Brøndby to replace.

If Skoubo decides to leave the club and Brøndby also sell Yohan the club could find themselves with very few goal scores left on the roster.
Northwood say that Yohan is still very young and will get his chance in the future but for now he will have to honour his contract with Brøndby.

The teams open the season with the 12th match between the two teams. Brøndby got off to the best possible start with a goal after just 4 minutes of play when Martin Retov scored on a fast break. After 21 minutes Azoulay Yohan showed why he is expected to be the next big star in Brøndby Stadium when he finished off a Brøndby attack with a perfect shot for the second Brøndby goal of the day. 2-0 was also the score at halftime. In the second half Brøndby quickly found themselves under pressure and it only took FC København (FCK) 7 minutes to get back within one goal. Jesper Bech was the goal score for FCK. It only took them 12 minutes to get the next and the two teams were even again. With only 9 minutes to play it looked like Azoulay Yohan would be the deciding factor when he put Brøndby back on top with his second goal of the day. But FCK came back once again. In OT Alvaro Santos scored the 6th goal of the day to tie the game at 3-3.

I have a couple questions. What is your financial situation like? How difficult is it to get players to come to Brondby?

After our “success” in last years CL our transfer budget moved up from £1mil to £3.8mil. The problem is our boards view on wages. The highest paid player now is Martin Retov with a weekly wage of £15.200. Some of our key players will need new contract but we will likely have to let them go because we can only offer them £20.000.

We can get players from Scandinavia to sign with us but it’s almost impossible to get any established players from Europe to come to Denmark and play. We have to try to pick up prospects and hope they turn in to good players.

3-3.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UEFA have completed the draw for the 3rd and final qualifying round to the Champions League. The winner from the SK Tirana – Brøndby match was also in the draw but none of the teams was seeded. That meant that an unlucky draw can put them up against teams as ManU, Valencia, Milan or Roma.

When the draw was finished Brøndby found them self drawn against Greek champions Panathinaikos AO.

We expect a comment on the draw from the Brøndby front office later today.

Headline: Comment on Champions league draw
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brøndbys manager Thomas Northwood today talked with the press about yesterdays Champions League (CL) draw. Northwood said that he was satisfied with the draft but it would take hard work to get past the Greek team. Panathinaikos AO have played in the group stage in the CL the last three years but never made it to the knock-out rounds.
Northwood also expressed his disappointment in the performance by the team in the first game against SK Tirana. He pointed out that it’s unforgivable to allow 3 goals in a CL game and that the team now has put themselves under an unnecessary pressure before the return game.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Leeds who just returned to the best English league this season have sent a request to Brøndby for Matteo Moffa. Brøndby picked up Moffa Padova back in 2005/6 for £1.2mil but he have had a troubled time in Denmark ever since. He have only started 6 games for the team and have been more known for his tendency to not show up for practise then his achievement of the field. He was been fined several times and currently finds himself in the Brøndby reserve team.

With the request from Leeds it’s expected that Brøndby will try to cut their losses and get rid of Moffa for any price

Champions League qual round 3, Leg 1:
Brøndby - Panathinaikos AO FT 1-1 / ( HT 0-0)
Brøndby was the dominant team in the first half of the game. They had a total of 11 shots in the first half but only 5 of them was on target and most was from fare outside the arrear. In the other end of the field Karim Zaza only had one shot to look after in the first 45 minutes of play.
In the second half the audience of 27529 had to wait until the 75th minute for the first goal. Leon Andreasen sends a high ball in to the penalty arrear where Peter Graulund was held down. Penalty Brøndby. Dan Anton Johanson made no mistakes and put Brøndby up 1-0. Brøndby continued to press on to get the important second goal but the tactic backfired 10 minutes later. Panathinaikos AO took full advantage of one of Brøndbys weak spots, when they challenged Per Nielsen on speed. He was chanceless against Dimitriadis and he made no mistake one-on-one with Karim Zaza. 1-1.
Brøndby had a few more chances and won the shot-statistic 19-2 but the final result was 1-1.
Not a great result for Brøndby. They now have to travel to Greece and win (or draw 2-2 or more). This is of cause not impossible but Panathinaikos AO must be considered huge favourites after tonight’s result.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once again before a Brøndby – AaB game the two managers have a hard time keeping their mouth closed. Again this time it was AaBs manager Erik Hamren who started the “show” with a comment about Brøndby not being good enough to win the title this year. That’s more or less his standard comment in front of every Brøndby – AaB game. Brøndbys GM Northwood normally doesn’t talk a lot in the press but it didn’t take him long to firer back at Hamren this time and his response was not very polite. He told the press that he was not sure if Hamren was good enough to coach in the top level and that he was not the type of manager he wanted in the game.
This will hardly calm down the hype before the game where Brøndby needs to win after finishing the three first games with three ties and only three points. AaB on the other hand is off to great start with three wins and nine points.

Headline: Brøndby line-up for second leg of Panathinaikos AO game
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
18 Brøndby players was ready in Kastrup Airport (Copenhagen) this morning to board the plane to Greece for without a question the most important Brøndby game of the season. Not because Brøndby has any hope of winning the Champions League title but for the financial aspect. If Brøndby manages to squeeze past Panathinaikos AO they will be guaranteed an income of more then £5mil this season in price money and TV-revenue. That’s more then double the amount Brøndby can normally expect to earn in a single season.
Defends is the same as the previous games and Thomas Kahlenberg is be back from injury as AMC. German Denis and Daniel Agger will be added as substitutes together with an extra goalkeeper (Dimitrov). Peter Graulund is also out and replaced by Babis Stefanidis who just signed a new contract earlier this week.
Brøndby will start out in the 4-3-1-2 formations but with Panathinaikos AO having the away-goal from the first leg, Brøndby will have to score a goal if they want to move ahead. Expect them to switch to 3-3-1-3 if necessary.

He went from Ajax to Valencia back in 2004/5 and was named in the “Team of the season” in Spain last season. Now he moves to England to play his football in London.
The other big transfer of the day is journey-man Javier Saviola and this time he sets a new transfer record. He came back to Barcelona after the loan to Monaco in 2004/5 only to be sold to Inter for £23mil. In Inter he only got 14 games (7 goals) before he moved to the other big Milano club AC Milan. They paid £33mil to get him. That’s 44 games ago and now he is on the move again. The buyer is Barcelona!!! They now pay more then double the price the got for him back in 2005/6. The price is an amazing £53mil with a monthly wage to the player of £170.000. That’s still a long way from the £425.000 Joaquin and Zambrotta is paid weakly with their current contracts.

Side note:
I must say that I really don’t like this Saviola transfer. The rapid moves is acceptable but unlikely, but for him to return to his original club for more then double the amount he was sold for in the first place is just not happening. I cannot say I have ever seen this happen in real life. It of cause happens that players return to their original club after a short time, but that is normally when they bust and the re-buy price is never bigger then the original transfer.
This was the first “mistake” by the game I noticed in 15 hours of play so I guess I can live with it.

Champions League qual round 3, Leg 2:
Panathinaikos AO - Brøndby FT 1-1 / (HT 1 – 0)
In a must win game for Brøndby they were off to a bad start when MR Martin Retov had to leave the field already after 21 minutes with a minor injury. He was replaced by Jonas Kamper. After 32 minutes it got a lot worse. A harmless free kick by Panathinaikos in to the penalty arrear was fumbled over the goal line by Karim Zaza for an own goal. Now Brøndby needed a goal just to tie and get extra-time. They stayed in their normal 4-3-1-2 formation until the 59th minute. At that time manager Thomas Northwood decided it was time to gamble and changed formation to 3-3-1-3. Defender Asbjoern Sennels was taken off the field and replaced by attacker Babis Stefanidis. Morten Skoubo was also taken off (with a small injury) and German Denis replaced him up in front. The reward of the gamble came after 71 minutes of play. A free kick from midfield was sent in to the Panathinaikos penalty arrear. The cleanse felt to Leon Andreasen who took the shot from 30yds out between friends and enemies and it went in all the way down in the right bottom corner of the goal. 1-1 and the two teams were back to even. Brøndby changed back to their normal formation for the remaining of the game and nothing much happened in the last 15 minutes of play. Panathinaikos had the biggest chances in the first half of extra time without getting the all important goal. In the second half of extra time Panathinaikos suddenly found themselves under pressure when they had a man shown his second yellow card and was reduced to jus 10 men. They changed formation to only have one attacker and Brøndby took advantage and moved back to playing with 3 attackers in the last 5 minutes. It didn’t help any and the game was to be decided by penalties.
Five players from each team and if no winner is found 1 player from each team until a winner is found. The same player can not kick twice.
Brøndby won the draw and decide to kick first.

Dan Anthon Johansen (penalty rating: 15) takes the first kick.
Starts his run-up and scores without problem

Brøndby 1 – Panathinaikos 0
Konstantinou (penalty rating: 16) is first out for Panathinaikos and he make no mistakes.
Brøndby 1 – Panathinaikos 1
Next up for Brøndby is Babis Stefanidis (penalty rating: 12). His second nationality is Greek but he shows no sign of the pressure and puts Brøndby back in front.
Brøndby 2 – Panathinaikos 1
Dimitriadis (penalty rating: 15) is solid as a rock and Karim Zaza is not even close to saving the ball.
Brøndby 2 – Panathinaikos 2
German Denis (penalty rating: 12) is next on the spot for Brøndby. He only takes two steps back and delivers a weak shot. Saved!!
Brøndby 2 – Panathinaikos 2
Panathinaikos South African defender Nasief Morris (penalty rating: 8) gives the Greek the lead for the second time today and adds pressure on Brøndby.
Brøndby 2 – Panathinaikos 3
Bashkim Ziberi (penalty rating: 11) must score for Brøndby to have a chance of coming back and puts the ball in the middle of the goal when the keeper dives early.
Brøndby 3 – Panathinaikos 3
This looks like a mistake from Panathinaikos. Defensive midfielder Papadimitriou shows why he only has a penalty rating of 2. Zaza has no problem saving his attempt.
Brøndby 3 – Panathinaikos 3
Jonas Kamper (penalty rating: 13) puts the pressure back on Panathinaikos with a goal on the 5th and final penalty.
Brøndby 4 – Panathinaikos 3
Panathinaikos biggest star Emmanuel Olisadebe (penalty rating: 14) now must score or the game will be over. But he shows why he is the highest paid player in Greek football and score safely.
Brøndby 4 – Panathinaikos 4
Its now one player from each team until a winner is found. The 12.000 spectator is getting full value for their money.
Thomas Kahlenberg (penalty rating: 8) steps up first for Brøndby. He shows why clubs around the world has started to take notice of him and puts Brøndby back on top.
Brøndby 5 – Panathinaikos 4
Konstantinidis (penalty rating: 3) now must score to keep Panathinaikos in the game. He steps up and…..

Blast the ball over the bar.

BRØNDBY WINS.

Brøndby moves on to the group stage of the Champions League with a 7-6 win after extra time and penalties.

It’s a long time since I have been talking to my screen but this game was a real roller-coaster ride and had me screaming at the small dots running around in 2-D on my screen. From the early goal by Panathinaikos AO, the surprise equalizer, overtime, the red card, the missed penalty, the save by Zaza and finally the joy of victory.
Now I remember why I love CM/FM…………

The new player added to the Brøndby team is Algerian international Mehdi Guerrouad. He comes from Danish second division club Viborg with a price tag of £250k.
Experts around Danish football see this as the first move by Brøndby to preparer for the departure of Thomas Kahlenberg. He got one year left on his contract and has already announced that he is not interested in renewing it. That will force Brøndby to try to sell him in the near future if the want to get any money for him. Selling him look like an easy task with clubs like Lazio, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Everton already showing interest.

Round 6/33:
Brøndby - AB FT 4-0 / (HT 2-0)
There has never been scored less then three goals in any match between these two teams and today was no exception. Brøndby played a flawless game today and gave AB their first loss of the season. Yohan got the first goal after 10 minutes when he scored on a loss ball after a Skoubo shot. In the 29th minute it was Skoubos own turn to get on the score sheet. With a move seen hundreds of time before on Brøndby stadium, Kahlenberg made the perfect pass up true the middle of the opponents defends and Skoubo had no problem scoring. In the 59th minute Yohan got his second of the day and it was one of the best goals seen in Brøndby this season. A half volley from 30yds out to the upper right hand corner. The last goal of the game was a long shot by Leon Andreasen. After only getting three points in the three first games, Brøndby have now made 9 points in the last three games with a 9-0 score record.

With the first six weeks of play completed its time to take a look at the standing. FC Nordsjælland came up from the second best division this year, and still has to win a match this year but with three draws they are still only 1 point behind the rest of the pack. Three teams only got four points after six games. Silkeborg is the only other team without a win and Frem is the other team promoted from the lower league. In the top four teams have opened up a small gap. AB is a bit of a surprise but the other three teams is all expected to be in the top. Brøndby is the only team without a loss this year.

Ashley Cole is lost to English football. Arsenal decided to let him go when Inter offered £18.5mil for the talented left defender.
With the purchase of Saviola for more then £50mil Barcelona had to sell some players to get some cash. That coasted Samuel Etoó his job. He will not be to upset when he sees his new pay check from Chelsea of £240.000 pr month. That’s close to $5mil pr year.
Real Madrid picked up one of the brightest young stars of European football when they paid Zaragoa £16.25mil for Portuguese midfielder Tiago.

Round 7/33:
Brøndby – FC Midtjylland FT 4-0 / (HT 1-0)
Again Brøndby got off to a fast start when Skoubo used his speed and scored on a counterattack after just 6 minutes. That was the only goal in the first half but the fans only had to wait 15 sec for the first goal of the second half. Five passes was all it took before Diego Cochas got his first goal for Brøndby. That broke FC Midtjylland completely and Brøndby got two more easy goals by Retov and Dan Anton Johansen (penalty) before full time. When the game was over FC Midtjylland had not had a single shot at goal.
After today’s game Brøndby finds themselves back on the top of Danish football one point clear of the field. They continued their hot-run with the second 4-0 win in just three days and can now look back on four wins in a row before going on a mini-break because of international games coming up.

Brøndbys manager Thomas Northwood had a hard time hiding this disappointment when he talked to Onside.dk just minutes after he left the meeting with the Brøndby board. The emergency meeting was called after it was clearer the Morten Skoubo once again had turned down a contract offer from Brøndby due to the low basic wage offered by the club. Skoubo asks for close to £36.000 pr month while the Brøndby board only will allow £22.000 and after tonight’s meeting it was clear that they had no intentions to change their mind. Brøndby will risk loosing some of their key players in the months to come if they don’t agree to sign new contracts soon. Its unknown if Northwood will give the board an ultimatum or try to work out deals with the players inside today’s financial structure.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The two first games for Denmark under new manager Thomas Northwood ended with a win and a draw. Northwood was very conservative picking out his team but had to make some tough choices when a lot Denmark’s best attackers were hit by injury. Three Brøndby players were selected and Dan Anthon Johansen got his two first internationals.
The first of the two games was a home game against Hungary. It was an ugly game with 11 yellow and 2 red cards but none of the teams managed to score a goal. Denmark was the only team with shots on goal (10) but none of them got over the line.
The second game was an away game against Slovakia and a must win if Denmark still wanted to have a chance to qualify. Northwood was saved by Fulham attacking midfielder Claus Jensen who scored two times. Claus Jensen was not even selected in the team of 25 players travelling to the mach but was added later when another played was out to injury.
Denmark’s have temporarily taken over the lead in group 7 from Turkey. Denmark has 14 points, one more point then the Turks but also a game more played. Denmark’s next game will be in one month against Faeroe Islands.

Round 8/33:
Frem - Brøndby FT 0-4 / (HT 0-2)
For the 3rd time in a row Brøndby got away with a 4-0 win. Frem got of to the best start and was awarded a penalty after just 10 minutes of play when Allan Olesen stopped a Frem player in the penalty arrear. Karim Zaza took a gamble and remained standing in the middle of that goal and could easily save the poor taken penalty. After that it was all Brøndby. Morten Skoubo got the first goal after 16 minutes with the help from Yohan on another Brøndby-fast break. Just before halftime Martin Retov pressed a Frem defender to make an own-goal to make it 2-0 at half time. Brøndby used all their three subs early in the second half to try to give some key players some rest before the Wednesdays meeting with Real Madrid. That worked out fine as both Daniel Agger and Mehdi Guerrouad scored a goal.
Brøndby now suddenly finds them self back on the top of Danish football league. A strange turn of events considering the poor start to the season.

The Spanish titleholders don’t need any presentation. They have upgraded for £46mil before this season but still have well known names as Beckham, Carlos, Raul, and Zidane on their roster. Joaquin and Xabi Alonso are the new stars in Madrid. Brøndby is chanceless in the two matches against a Real Madrid team that could play their backups and still be heavy favourites. Champions League Group A Round 1:
Brøndby – Real Madrid FT 1-2 / (HT 1 – 1)
The 31262 on the stands feared the worst when Fernando Morientes scored already after 1:04 on a well executed attack. Luckily Brøndby didn’t panic and managed to pull back even after just 17 minutes on a long shot by Martin Retov. The rest of the half was one long press by the Madrid team but they never managed to get the second goal. Brøndby started the second half by pulling Morten Skoubo and Bashkim Ziberi out, who both had had days against the solid opponents. They were replaced by Azoulay Yohan and Diego Cochas. The game was decided after 55 minutes when Morients got his second of the day when he scored on his own rebound from a header on a cross from Stankovic. Brøndby was never close in the remaining 35 minutes of the game and Real winning the shots-stat 25-6 gives a good picture of the game.
In the other game in the group PSG won 2-1 over Ukrainian Dinamo Kiev.

They are now 11 points clear with just three round left to play. This was the first championship for Brøndby since 2002 and their 10th overall. It was also their first win with former Danish international Michael Laudrup as manager.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everybody knew it would be difficult for Brøndby to get a win on the field against Real Madrid but they still came away with something from the game. £575.000 is a new gate receipts record in Brøndby. The old record of £525.000 was from last year when Liverpool visited in the second knockout round in the UEFA-cup. 31626 was also the highest attendance this season but not a new Brøndby record. The record is from the 2005/6 season when 31733 showed up at Brøndby stadium to see the league match against FC København. That was just 15 persons short of a complete sell-out. The average attendance to a Brøndby game has increased from 20085 in 2004/5 to 23568 after the two first month of play this year.

The biggest challenge for this game was to refocus on the domestic league after the big game against Real Madrid. Daniel Agger will replace Asbjørn Sennels on DL for his first start of the season. Sennels will not be among the 15 players selected for today’s game and will get some much needed rest. Another player who will not get playing time his week is Peter Garulund. Complains to manager Thomas Northwood during the week was not enough to convince him to move Graulund in to the starting line-up. A play who took another approach to the problem of not being in the first team this week was Diego Cochas. This week he has announced that he is prepared to wait for a first team opportunity in Brøndby if necessary. The will stay patient and work hard and hope that is enough to take him in to the first team. He was rewarded with a place on the bench for this week’s game.

Headline: Kahlenberg to stay in Brøndby?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brøndby manager Thomas Northwood was cornered by a journalist from Danish newspaper Politiken before today’s game against SønderjyskeE. The question was once again about Thomas Kahlenberg and his future in Brøndby. With clubs like Atletico Madrid, Parma, Lazio and Newcastle showing interest Thomas Northwood said that he would be surprised if Kahlenberg decided to stay.
The player in question was not available for a comment but has earlier announced his joy playing for Brøndby and has said not to have any immediate plans for the future. Thomas Kahlenberg is once again looking to have an excellent season and currently have an average rating of 8.46.

Round 9/33:
SønderjyskeE - Brøndby FT 1-3 / (HT 0-1)
If Thomas Kahlenberg was aware of the comment from manager Thomas Northwood before the start of the game is unknown but it only took him 1:11 to get everyone’s attention on the field. A long pass from Allan Olesen opened up the SønderjyskeE defends completely and Thomas Kahlenberg could easily score his first league goal of the season. In the second half Brøndby pulled an injured Martin Retov and a tired Morten Skoubo off the field and replaced them with Babis Stefanidis and David Marek. It only took Stefanidis 14 minutes to start paying off for his new contract. He scored with a header on a cross from just Marek. The next goal came just 3 minutes later and once again it was Stefanidis. Jackson was given some playing time instead of Leon Andreasen but he could not prevent Sønderjyske from getting a goal with just 10 minutes left to play. This was the first domestic league goal scored on Brøndby and Karim Zaza in 584 minutes of play!!! The last team to score a goal on Brøndby was Silkeborg back at 5/8

With only three days between games the hard schedule has now started to show on the Brøndby players. Martin Retov is unavailable after picking up a shoulder injury that will keep him out of the game for a week. Dan Anthon Johansen will play despite needing a rest but Asbjørn Sennels is still not ready. Azoulay Yohan will also have to rest this week. That will give some new players a chance to show they deserve a place in the first team. Mehdi Guerrouad will get his first start ever for Brøndby after his move from Viborg. He will be the AM R this week. With two goals in three minutes after coming on as a substitute last week Babis Stefanidis also gets a chance to start a game. On the bench David Marek is found again this week but this time together with debutant Wellington. He was promoted last week after some strong games for the reserves and will now get a chance to show his stuff in the big league.

Side Note:
I have a policy not to start a player if his condition is rated lower then 90. Only key-players in very important games will make me change that rule. In some cases I keep them on the bench for a late appearance but prefer to let them rest completely.
I also just received the player-tracker Frogman have made (Thanks Frogman and sorry about your dynasty) and found a lot of players on the reserve and U-18 that deserves a chance in the first team in the months to come.

no problem, and don't be sorry, I'll get over it, I guess... If that darn RAM can only arrive soon and start a new career. I can't get into the current temporary career, knowing I'll dump it to the garbage can very soon...

About the spreadsheet, yeah, it's not only good to track players' long term skill changes, but it also helped me a lot in the past in seeing who comes out of the group and who has potential. It can really give you a better "whole team" view...

Round 10/33:
Brøndby – Esbjerg FT 0-0 / (HT 0-0)
After scoring 15 goal in four games in the national league Brøndby have now played two games in a row without scoring a single goal. That didn’t happen one single time last season. This time Brøndby pressed for the goal most of the match with 13 shots but only three on goals. Esbjerg didn’t produce must (only 3shots all game) but had the game MVP in keeper Rune Pedersen. Wellington and Diego Cochas both got 45 minutes of play but didn’t manage to rise above the mass. Despite only getting two points in the last two games Brøndby is still in first place in the league.

Dinamo Kiev played in the champions league in the 04/05 and 06/07 season but have still not made it thru the first group stage. In the 04/05 season they made it all the way to the UEFA Cup quarterfinal. The team from Ukraine has a love for South American players and currently have five under contract. Four Brazilian players with Diego Rincon the best-known name. They also have a player from Colombia on their roster be he will not play this week due to injury. If Brøndby wants to have any chance to make it to the next round in the Champions League this season they must get at least 1 point in this game. The bookmakers have Dinamo Kiev as favourites.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the second game in a row Brøndby has to make major changes in the starting line-up. Leon Andreasen is not in any shape to start this game and will be sidelined. That will give Brazilian midfielder Jackson his first start of the season. The biggest blow to Brøndbys winning chances is that Morten Skoubo will miss his first start of the season. He has not been scoring that frequently this season but his is still Brøndbys top guy up front. It’s a surprise that young Wellington gets another chance in this important a game as he has not accomplish much in the two games he has played this season. Brøndby must not loss this game. If the end up with 0 points after two games it will be almost impossible for them to finish second in the group and advance and the third place to get in to the UEFA cup will also be difficult to get.

Champions League Group A Round 2:
Dinamo Kiev - Brøndby FT 1-1 / (HT 1 – 0)
12.000 of the 16.000 seat was full when Andriy Shevchenkos old club played its first home game in this years Champions League. They just had to wait 15 minutes for the first goal. The Brøndby defends was caught sleeping after a corner and leaves Maxim Shatskikh unmarked in the penalty arrear and he has no problem scoring. Dinamo has the ball most of the time in the first half and is moving it around a lot faster then Brøndby but the score remains 1-0 after 45 minutes of play. In the second half the paten is the same but Brøndby now manage to get in a few dangerous counterattacks. After 63 minutes Brøndby manager Thomas Northwood decided to top the team and made three substitutions. Dan Anton Johanes had an awful day and was taken off together with Jackson and Yohan. That made room for Daniel Agger, Leon Andreasen and Morten Skoubo to come in and try to make a difference. After 80 minutes of play that was just what happened. Brøndby got a corner and it was taken by Leon Andreasen. He found Skoubo in the arrear and he powered in a header to tie the game again. Both team had chances to win the match in the last 10 minutes but the final score remained 1-1.
In the second game of the group, Real Madrid destroyed ParisSG 5-0.

Brøndby was rewarded £100.000 for the draw in Champions League against Dinamo Kiev. They still have to generate another £10mil if they want to better the result from 2006 when they had a total income of £19.8mil. On the expense side Brøndby it looks like the club is spending a little more money this year. £7.8 mil has already gone out and that only leaves £3.5mil before they reach last years spending. It’s the £3.5mil spend on new players and sign on fees together with close to £1mil in tax money that have ran up this costs this year. Brøndby is still looking to make a profit this year (currently £1.5mil) but the £8.4mil from last year looks like a difficult target.

Headline: Brøndby line-up for FC København game
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Denmark the games between these two teams is just as important as the Real Madrid – Barcelona derby in Spain, the old-firm Celtic-Rangers in Scotland, PSV-Ajax in Holland and ManU-Arsenal in England. This is the match between the two biggest and most ambitious clubs in Danish football. There is just 30 minutes between the two clubs stadiums with FC København playing their home games on the Danish national stadium (Parken) in the centre of Copenhagen. The two teams have already played each other 13 times with Brøndby winning 4, 6 ties and 3 wins to FC København. Three of the last four games have finished in a tie. Brøndby can for the first time in a few weeks start the game with their expected best line-up. The only player missing from the “normal” line-up is Asbjørn Sennels who need a rest. His replacement Daniel Agger has shown good improvement the last few weeks and looks like the player who can fill in for Per Nielsen the day he decided to retire. This is the 3rd home game for Brøndby in a row and with only 2 points in the two first games they need a win now. FC København is looking shape this season and has only lost one game.

Round 11/33:
Brøndby – FC København FT 0-1 / (HT 0-0)
A record 31735 showed up for the derby and that’s a new Brøndby record and just 13 short of a sell-out. That was not a surprise as their have been more then 30.000 to all the previous five Brøndby home games against FC København. The average attenence for Brøndby is around 21.000.
It looked like a tie game for a long time. Both teams had chances but it was also clearer that they both knew their opponents strengths and weaknesses and didn’t allow many chances. The game was decided on a fantastic long shot in to the top left corner from 35yds out. Unluckily for Brøndby it was Norwegian international and FC København playmaker Magne Hoseth who got the goal after 78 minutes of play. Brøndby had a shot on the post by Martin Retov in the remaining 12 minutes but they didn’t come any closer then that and had to leave the field for the 4th time in a row without a victory. Brøndbys longest streak without winning is from 2005/6 when they went 7 games without winning a game.

Headline: Brøndby change policy
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brøndby today announced that they have decided to change their player policy. From having 31 players in the first team Brøndby will cut the first team down to 23 players. Instead of having 8 players in the first team that have still not started a single game this season they are now moved down to the reserve team and will get a chance to get some valuable match practice.
The players affected by this change of policy are:

GK Dimitar Dimitrov
He is still the backup keeper to Karim Zaza but will now have a chance to see some action in the reserves team. Brøndby is only allowed to have four substitutes in the Danish league and don’t use one for a keeper therefore Dimitrov is currently only active (on the bench) in Champions Leagues games.

DM Stefan Schmidt
Came from AaB the year Thomas Northwood took over as manager in Brøndby and have never been a first team regular. Have only started 14 games in four seasons and have still not been selected for a single mach this year.

M LC Jesper Mikkelsen
Has never showed his potential in Brøndby and has requested a transfer. Maybe a visit to the reserves can get him back on track.

M C Kostas Valancauskas
A young player who came to Brøndby before this season. Will need to develop a lot to get back in the first team.

F L Martin Beck Andersen
Have been away from Brøndby on loan the two previous years but this year he have to compete with players like Skoubo, Yohan, Stefanidis, Wellington and Graulund for a spot in the first team. Right now he is not even close and will get al lot more out of playing in the reserves team.

F LC Marc Olsen
Another young attacker with little chance of getting playing time in the first team.

M C Kim Daugaard
The 33 year old midfielder is currently injured and have this season lost his place in the first team to Leon Andreasen. He got lots of routine but it’s unlikely he will play a major role in Brøndby first team again.

When Wellington recovers from injury one more player will moved down. That leaves 23 (+1 injured9 players in the first team.

The reserve team players a reserves team tournament together with 11 other teams. They are currently second after 7 round of play with three wins, four ties and no losses.

The Brøndby first team will after today look like this:

Brøndby now only got three months to find a way to get Martin Retov to sign a new contract. His current contract is set to expire 31/12 and he will be free to leave Brøndby stadium without Brøndby getting any kind of compensation. Brøndby manager Thomas Northwood have tried several times to get a new get a new deal done but have not been able to meet the plays wage demands. It looks like it will be Jonas Kamper who will take over as MR when Retov despairs.

Headline: The press still wondering about Kahlenberg
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Brøndbys weekly press conference most questions was once again about Thomas Kahlenberg and his future in Brøndby. Last time manager Thomas Northwood was asked this question he answered very honest that he didn’t think Kahlenberg would stay in Brøndby for long. Kahlenberg didn’t like that comment and was upset with his manager for a few days. This time Northwood picked his word more carefully and refused to answer the question direct. He did confirm that Brøndby has raised the asking price for Kahlenberg to £7.5mil.
Kahlenberg is expected to be on the bench when Denmark with manager Thomas Northwood tomorrow play home against Faeroe Islands in a must win game to stay in the hunt for a place in next years Euro-08

Two of Brøndby`s up and comings stars have been selected in the Danish U-19 team for the game against Israel 13 October. Mads Laudrup is son of Brøndby’s former manager Michael Laudrup. He had a few starts on the Brøndby first team last season but has not been close to a start this season. He still have shown good progress and have increased 22 Frogman-points* in the last 12 months. The other player selected is the younger brother of Brøndby first team player Daniel Agger. 18 year old Nicolaj Agger have been in the reserve squad the last year and have still not been in the first team squad. If his development continue that will soon change as he has already improved 16 Frogman-points in just a year. They will not be able to play for Brøndby in the Champions League game against ParisSG.

Headline: A look around European football
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The big leagues around Europe have now all been playing for a few weeks and its time to take a look around and see who is hot and not.

England:
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manu are all right on the tail of the surprise team in English football this season. Blackburn Rovers has a 6th place from the 2002/3 as the best result the last 10 years. Now they find themselves on top of the Premier division with 20 points after 9 games. Blackburn’s Lucas Neill has been the big surprise this year and Nicolas Anelka has found his second youth after the move from Manchester City to Everton.

Spain:
In Spain the top team after six rounds is Valencia with five wins and a tie. The big story is the failure of the two big teams. Barcelona Have not had much success with their new 4-2-3-1 formation and fined themselves in 7th place. For Real Madrid it’s even worse. After 6 rounds they have still not won a game and is 3rd last in the league with just four points. Benito Floro will soon be looking for a new job if something not happening soon.

Italy:
In Italy its business as usual. After just six rounds Milan is already three points clear on top of the league. The surprise is that their closest rival is Messina. They lead the pack with Roma, Inter and Juventus just behind.

That gives Dimitar Dimitrov the chance to prove his worth. 17 year old Jakob Ibsen from the Brøndby U-18 team will be backup. The four players in the backline are not changed and Daniel Agger is together with Jackson the defensive backups on the bench. Midfield is Leon Andreasen, Ziberi, and Retov and of cause Kahlenberg with Cochas and Kamper ready to step in if necessary. Skoubo and Yohan are on top with Germàn Denis and Stefanidis on the bench.
The two teams also played each other in last years champions league group stage. PSG won the game in Paris and got a point in Brøndby with a 0-0 game.

Champions League Group A Round 3:
Brøndby - ParisSG FT 4-2 / (HT 2 – 1)
Close to 29.000 turned up for Brøndbys second home game in this year Champions League. They saw Brøndby get unlucky after just 12 minutes. A harmless long shot deflected off Dan Anthon Johansen and went over Zaza for an early PSG goal. Just four minutes later Brøndby got back to level after Dan Anton got the chance in the other end on a Brøndby penalty. Leon Andreasen had to go off after just 20 minutes of play with an injury and was replaced by Daniel Agger. 5 minutes later Skoubo made the perfect pass to Kahlenberg that scored easily. 2-1 to Brøndby was also the result at half time after a PSG shot on the post in the last minute. In the second half PSG worked hard to get the equalizer and in the 72nd minute they were rewarded. ParisSG took a quick free kick and before Brøndby had time to react, Reinaldo had put the ball in the goal. With just 4 minutes left to play the game was decided. This time the roles were reversed when Kahlenberg was the man behind the perfect pass to Morten Skoubo. He fired the ball from the edge of the box into the top right corner. Manager Northwood changed formation and took attacking midfielder Kahlenberg out and replaced him with a defensive player Jackson. Just 4 minutes later Morten Skoubo got his second goal of the day and Brøndbys fourth when he and Jonas Kamper hit ParisSG on a perfect counter attack.
Real Madrid also won 4-2 home over Dinamo Kiev.

Nicolaj is the younger brother of Brøndby first team player Daniel Agger and the son of Brøndby scout Arne Agger. But it was not just good news after yesterdays win. Karim Zaza returned injured from the Morocco’s World Cup qualifier against Tanzania and will be out for two weeks. Second keeper Dimitar Dimitrov injured himself in training today and will also be out of the game against league leaders AaB in just three days. Brøndby got at total of 9 keepers under contract but the once healthy to play are all under 20 years old.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hopeful Brøndby can bring some momentum from the ParisSG game in to this match because it will really be needed. AaB tops the league in front of FC København with Brøndby now trailing in 3rd.
With both Zaza and Dimitrov out with injury Brøndby turn to 17year old Jakob Ibsen as goalkeeper in this important game. He has been doing very well in the u-18 team and looks like the best option. He will get lots of help from his four defenders. They have a total of 965 league games between them. Dan Anton Johansen will have to start on the bench due to his poor condition. The midfield is in strongest condition but the attack is brand new. Both Skoubo and Yohan have not recovered from the CL game and need to rest. Stefanidis and Denis will be the new but untested duo upfront for Brøndby.
AaB manager was as usual out criticising Thomas Northwood and Brøndby in the press before the game but this time GM Northwood did not give any official response.

Round 13/33:
AaB - Brøndby FT 2-1 / (HT 1-0)
This was not pretty and it was not only Brøndbys fault. Referee Knud Erik Fisker has to take his part of the blame for this strange game. It was not a hard played game but still Fisker took up the cards 13 times. 11 yellows and two red cards and a penalty were the result. Asbjørn Sennels got two yellow cards in just three minutes (the second was for a simple obstruction) and was the first player sent off after just a half hour of play. An already tired Brøndby team now had to play for one hour with just 10 players. Manager Northwood pulled out an attacker (Denis) and brought in a new defender( When Fisker rewarded AaB a penalty in the last minute of the first half it became even tougher for Brøndby. In the second half Brøndby got the goal after 10 minutes of play. Ziberi scored his first goal in the league this season to tie the game. Brøndby now spend all their time defending and hoping to get away with one point but that was out of the question when AaBs Kasper Risgård scored his team’s second goal after 73 minutes. Nothing much happened in the rest of the game except from Knud Erik Fisker who had to get the last word. He pulled up the second red card of the day in the 90th minute. This time it was AaB player Kristian Bak Nilsen who had to take an early bath.
Brøndby Game MVP: Leon Andreasen (rating: 8)

This is once again very close to real life. Knud Erik Fisker is a real character in Danish football. When he is the reff you can always expect lots of strange cards, penalties and other wired decisions. More often then not he has to explain/defend his rulings after the game. He is always in the centre of attention, not a good thing for a referee.

Together with the other top teams in the Danish league Brøndby enters the Danish Cup with just 16 teams remaining. The two teams played each other three times in the 2006/7 season with Brøndby winning all games with a total goal difference of 12-0. Ølstykkes first game in the Cup was in the 4th round where the won 2-1 over Nivå-Kokkedal.

After just 10 minutes of play everything looked to go Brøndbys way. Ølstykke had already been reduced to 10 men after two yellow cards to Lauth and Dan Anton Johansen had scored on a long shot from 25 yards out. Brøndby had a few more chances before Ølstykke scored on their only shot in the first half after a defends mistake by Daniel Agger. Brøndby - AGF FT 1-0 / (HT 0-0)
AGF came out in a surprisingly offensive formation against Brøndby. It didn’t help them much in the first half where Brøndby had a lot of chances to get the first goal. When AGF changed to a more defensive formation in the second half Brøndby also decided to change style and only play with three defenders. Dan Anton Johansen left the field and German Denis came on as the 3rd attacker. Morten Skoubo had a bad day and was replaced in the 66th minute. Just two minutes later Brøndby got rewarded. Once again was Brøndbys manager Thomas Northwood bombarded with questions about the future of Thomas Kahlenberg when he answered question after the league win over AGF. And once again Thomas Northwood declined to comment. It was mostly the same clubs watching him in today’s game as it has been the last months but today Inters scout Pietro Gatto was also present.
Thomas Kahlenbergs contract with Brøndby expires 31/12-08.
Brøndby also gave the latest news on Leon Andreasens injury. He hurt himself in the game against AGF and is out for 3-5 days. With a neck injury it’s doubtful if he will get ready for Brøndbys next champions League game this Wednesday in Paris.

Headline: Jonas Kamper happy with role
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In a interview with Danish newspaper BT, Jonas Kamper today told that he is happy with his current role in Brøndby and is prepared to fight for his first team opportunity. He has seen a bit more playing time in the last couple of weeks and most people expect him to replace Martin Retov as AMR when his contract expires in a few months. Kamper played 32 first team games for Brøndby in the 2003/4 season under manager Michael Laudrup, but have never been a regular under Thomas Northwood and have only started 33 games in four seasons.

Karim Zaza is back in training but is still not ready to start. He will be on the bench with Dimitrov getting his 3rd start. With Leon Andreasen out Brøndby need a new DMC for this game. The choice surprisingly fell on Sebastian Svärd. He has not played much this season but have worked hard in practise and have improved 16 Frogman points. Jonas Kamper is getting more and more playing time and Skoubo and Stefanidis now start to know each others game.

Champions League Group A Round 3:
ParisSG - Brøndby FT 2-0 / (HT 1 – 0)
Stefanidis has the first chance after just 3 minutes when Brøndby caught PSG on a fast break. After 13 minutes PSG gets a lucky goal when a long shot from Modeste M`Bami hits Allan Olesen and completely fools Dimitrov in the goal. After 38 minutes PSG changes from an attacking formation to a lot more defensive 4-5-1.
At halftime Brøndby changes formation and decides to only have three players in the defends. With PSG only having one attacker that should not be a problem and out goes Allan Olesen after a bad day at work. He is replaced by attacker Peter Graulund. Jonas Kamper goes out with an injury and is replaced with Martin Retov. The formation change gives Brøndby a few more chances in the start of the second half. After 60 minutes of play Brøndby shots themselves in the foot. A huge mistake by Asbjørn Sennels is punished effetely by PSG for their second goal of the day. Brøndby has full control of the ball when Sennels dribbles as the last man and losses the ball to a PSG player who can score easily. The last half hour PSG just controls the game and Brøndby only manage to be dangerous on a few corners and free kicks.
In the other game in the group Real Madrid secures their spot in the next round with a win in Kiev. 1-0 on a goal by Roque Santa Cruz was enough. Santa Cruz came to Real last season from Bayern Munich for £20mil.
Brøndby Game MVP: Bashkim Ziberi (rating: 7)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Despite the loss to Paris SG in the Champions league yesterday and some shaky results in the Danish League the Brøndby Board still have full confidence in Thomas Northwood as manager and is very pleased with his performance.
The injury Jonas Kamper picked up in the game will only keep him out for three days and he looks to be ready for the game against SønderjyskeE 4/11.
Three players Brøndby will have to try to rest in that game is Morten Skoubo, Thomas Kahlenberg and Dan Anton Johansen. They all look very tired and will be in need of a rest soon. With games in the Royal League also starting up this month expect all three players to rest against SønderjyskeE.

Sønderjyske have been in the top Danish division for the last three years but have still not won against Brøndby in seven attempts (5-2-0). With the Royal League game against FCK coming up in just four days and already a lot of tired players in the line-up this game looks like a good opportunity to rest a few starters. The other Brøndby players ready for that mach is Thomas Kahlenberg, Martin Retov and Leon Andreasen. All those players will be rested. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of the major English newspapers today used a full page making fun of successful Brøndby manager Thomas Northwood. The reason was a comment made by the manager on a press conference earlier this week when Mr Northwood confirmed that they were looking for a way to bring back Johan Absalonsen to Brøndby stadium. Absalonsen was one of the young stars of the Brøndby team Thomas Northwood took over and has made Danish champions three year in a row. The 22 year old player moved to Chelsea last year on a free transfer after his contract with Brøndby ran out. In Chelsea he has had a hard time getting in to the first team and have spend all of this season in the reserves team. Several other teams are also looking to offer the player first team football with Monaco, Everton and Blackburn being the biggest names. But with an asking price of £3.7mil the player is most likely out of Brøndbys reach but a trade might be an option. Its also questionable if the player is willing to move back to Danish football.

Round 15/33:
Brøndby - SønderjyskeE FT 2-0 / (HT 0-0)
Brøndby was in full control for the first 45 minutes of play but without scoring. The biggest chance was for Jonas Kamper who had a shot stopped on the goal line after 32 minutes of play. In the second half it was all about Babis Stefanidis. After 5 minutes of play he was pushed in the back in the penalty arrear after a long throw-in. The referee pointed at the spot and Stefanidis stepped up and made no mistake. Just three minutes later he got his second of the day. He got it on a spectacular bicycle kick that went inn from a tight angle. Unluckily he also managed to injure himself when scoring the goal and had to leave the field. He received a standing ovation when he was replaced by Germàn Denis. Brøndby had no problem controlling the rest of the game for three important points.

Headline: Niki Zimling sign new contract
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of Brøndbys future young stars Niki Zimling today decided to sign a new contract with Brøndby. He is now under contract with the club until 2010. Niki is only 22 years old but look to be the player that can take over from Leon Andreasen the day he decides to leave Danish football. Niki have already played 17 games for the Danish U21 team. He will together with Daniel Agger and Sebastian Svärd be the cornerstone in the Brøndby defends in the near future. Both Agger and Svärd is currently looking over new contract offers from Brøndby that will tie them to the club until 2010 and is expected to sign in the near future.
Brøndby only have four other first team players with contracts expiring next year. The major concern is of cause Skoubo and Kahlenberg but also Graulund and Marek will be out of contract in 2008.

Headline: Brøndby line-up for FC København Nordic League game
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first game as title defenders in this year Royal League will be against FC København. The game is played just four days after the last league game and three days before Denmark’s international friendly against Argentina. For that reason Brøndby have to be a bit creative when picking the starting 11 for this match. It’s always nice to do well in a tournament but the Royal League offers very little to play for besides being able to call your self the best team in Scandinavia. The price money is small. A draw in the Royal league will give each team £8000 in price money while a draw in the champions league group play pays £100.000. Most important it won’t give you a place in the European tournaments.
Therefore Brøndby will give some of their backup players a chance in these games and try to give them some valuable playing time.

Brøndby – FC København FT 1-1 / (HT 1-0)
A little more then 22.000 turned up for the first game in this years Royal League. They saw Babis Stefanidis continue his good form scoring his fourth goal in four games when he placed a free kick in the left corner after 29 minutes of play. After the goal FC København totally took over the game and Magne Hoseth and Alvaro Santos both had big chances. In the second half Brøndby gave the chance to a few more “new” players putting Mehdi Guerrouad, Germàn Denis and Sebastian Svärd on the field. It didn’t help change the match picture and FC København finally got their equalizer in the 76minute after a massive press. Brøndby did have two nice chances in overtime on long shots but the final score was 1-1.

Denmark’s friendly against Argentina was played today in front of close to 50.000 people. They saw two teams using this game as a practise match. Both teams was hit hard by injury from before and also decided to rest most of their star players or give them limited playing time. The Danish team was clearly handicapped by the long journey to Argentina and didn’t manage a shot on goal all match. Both teams used all their 6 substitutes and Denmark gave debut to 21-year-old Kasper Schmeichel in the second half. He came on at halftime but only got 7 minutes of play before he had the leave the field injured. The Manchester City player will be out for 2 months. The game was decided after 65 minutes when Christian D Ledesma scored from 25yds out. This was Denmark’s last national game this year.
