Residents in the Four States were taken aback Tuesday by Mother Nature's
beauty.
Meteorologist Doug Heady says these types of clouds are called
lenticular mammatus. They are rare and many residents in the Four
States have remarked that they had never seen anything like it before.
Heady says these clouds form during severe weather and although
they look as though tornadoes could accompany them, tornadoes never
form in these systems. He says under a severe thunderstorm you get
cold air that pushes down and that's what creates the fascinating cloud
formations.
We received hundreds of calls and pictures from Tuesday's weather
event. We appreciate the pictures and awareness our viewers show
during these situations.
Wow...cool.

I literally got turned on by seeing those (since I'm a clouds freak). We have some wicked clouds here as unstable air spills over the Front Range and hits the Plains but I have never seen anything like those...if it's not a hoax.

I'd guess the guy who named them "mammatus" had the same thing in mind.
