Just a couple of hours ago my girlfriend and I were at the Dallas Arboretum when I asked her to marry me and pulled out a ring. I don't think she even looked at the ring before kissing me and saying yes. :)

Hah! No, definitely no OG at the reception. I get enough of that stuff at work.

See if you're allowed to play anymore FOF multiplayer! :)

Well, we already live together so things shouldn't change that much, should they?

So should we be expecting a "MrsJeeberD" on the boards soon?

Nah. I've tried to introduce her to the board several times in the past but she just doesn't seem interested. It's probably better that way, really...

Welcome to the club! Hey we should have a dual fofc style wedding somewhere ... pure madness.

Beautiful! So you and your fiancee are OK getting married in Texas? ;)

How do her parents feel :)

Ahh, and of course it was bbor who brought up the Million Dollar Question. You do know me, buddy. :)

Well, when she called her parents and told them their reaction was "Ohhh.........." She asked them if they were happy, and they said that they were but they were shocked (we've been together 5.5 years, how surprised could they be?). They didn't sound overly enthused about it, though. Later my girl...fiancee called her little brother and asked him how her parents were taking it, and he said that they were happy about it. The kid doesn't pull any punches, so if they were talking any junk in front of him he would have told her.

I'm thinking they're a little worried since they're having some financial troubles as it is right now, but we're going to keep it pretty small and try to pay for most of it ourselves.

And thanks again for the kind words, everyone. If y'all are in Texas in August of next year feel free to drop by... :)

Nothing new to say, just the usual -- congratulations! Did you make a big speech when you proposed?

JeeberD
06-01-2005, 11:27 AM
Nah, no big speech. We had just finished our picnic and were laying on the blanket in the middle of the arboretum. I asked her if she knew how much I loved her, and when she smiled and held her fingers a couple of inches apart I then told her that I loved her more than anyone or anything and then pulled out the ring and asked her if she would marry me. Her eyes got so big when I started to reach into my pocket, it was cute... :)

SIYou think they love you. Some in-laws are just polite. Her dad is sticking needles in his pocket-sized effigy of you as we speak.

My M-i-L has shown nothing but respect and kindness to me since I met her daughter in 1987. Doesn't mean there aren't rituals of death performed in my name every night in their basement.

I never saw it this way until we had our little girl. I'm 6'4" and about 280 -- her suitors are going to feel my pain.

Actually, I think it may have to do with the fact that her parents are divorced and they both see how we interact together. In a "they aren't making the same mistakes we did" kind of thing.

Or at least that's what I tell myself so that I can sleep at night without worrying about her dad crashing through our front door ;)

Jeeber is going to have a new theme song.

Mother in law, mother in law
Mother in law, mother in law

The worst person I know
Mother in law, mother in law
She worries me so
Mother in law, mother in law
If she leaves us alone
We could have a happy home
Sent from down below
Mother in law, mother in law
Mother in law, mother in law

Satan should be her name
Mother in law, mother in law
To me they’re about the same
Mother in law, mother in law
Everytime I open my mouth
Steps in trying to put me out
How could you stood so low
Mother in law, mother in law
Mother in law, mother in law

Come home with my pay
Mother in law, mother in law
She asks me what I made
Mother in law, mother in law
She thinks her advice is a contribution
If she would leave that would be the solution
Don’t come back no more
Mother in law, mother in law
Mother in law, mother in law....

SIWe are all making the same mistakes :D Anyone thinking otherwise isn't paying attention.

The reason for her dad's right-side-down-frown never dawned on me while we were dating. I just assumed his face was broken or he was just a grumpy old fuck. Now I know that is only partially true.

It turns out it was - 50% grumpy old fuck / 50% touch my daughter and I'll kill you.

Maybe I'm the only father on Earth that thinks this way, but I don't think any man will be good enough for my daughter. I don't care how nice he "appears" to be. When it comes down to it, we all want the same thing and it isn't Nachos with Velveeta® cheese.
