My family lost someone very dear and important to us all today. Fitting that memorial day would be the day that my grandfather would pass after his long stuggle with alzheimer's. My grandfather served in both WW2 and Korea. He wasn't the type to talk of his accomplishments, he was a quiet giving man who would reassure with his physical support as much as his quiet caring demeanor and reassuring smile. Every day he would fly his flag at his house in loving support of his country and in support of his brother who died in WW2. His dedication to this endeavor(even through hurricanes) got us a visit from Senator John Breaux and a special flag ceremony at my grandparent's house a few years ago.

So do me a favor and say an extra prayer or give the flag some extra care today, if you are so inclined, for a quiet but great american who has left us.

Having a grandfather who passed away 2 years ago who was a part of the D-Day attack on Omaha beach, as well as being born in Austria, knew fluent German and was used to infiltrate german military camps and thus capturing many Nazi soldiers, I definitely will give the extra salute and prayer for all soldiers past and present for their efforts in defending our country.

I also currently have a cousin who is with the Marines over in Iraq, who is supposed to be in my wedding as a groomsmen this July, but unfortunately cannot get leave, whom I hope is safe. A salute/prayer goes out to him from me as well.

I lost my veteran grandfather not long ago. I hold his flag closely on days like today.

My brother-in-law's father was on Omaha Beach during D-Day. Found this out not too long ago and remain in complete awe of him. Living quietly in Michigan and probably never mentioning it to anyone. God Bless the United States!!! God be with you and your family!
