http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17515 try this, also try http://www.theunderdogs.org (but be prepared for pop-ups, and other possible crap being deposited on your PC).

Also, try ebay - for just a buck or two you can find some older copies of CM that are quite good.

Along those same lines, I'm a newbie when it comes to soccer strategy, and I've been bumming around with an OLD game called Major League Soccer Manager, and my choice of strategies are as follows:

-Long Ball
-Direct
-Passing
-All Offense
-All Defense

Might someone be able to give me a brief breakdown/pros/cons of each. Well, maybe for the first three at least; the last two seem pretty self-explanatory..

Thanks ya in advance.

Um - 6 posts and no one mentioned FM ? :D

Edit- clearly, I can't read. But I believe CM2 is available at the underdogs.

Long ball - Route One tactic where your players attempt to make long passes over the head of the defense and onto your striker

Direct - Ball is played directly up the field, either in the air or on the ground

Short - Ball is passed to the nearest open man, whether he's forward, side, or back

I'm having a lot of fun with freekick.org, it's along the lines of hattrick.

I'm having a lot of fun with freekick.org, it's along the lines of hattrick.I'm slightly peeved with the outfielders/goalkeepers split since I had a guy who was a capable (not great or anything) backup defender AND goalkeeper.

Still not sure I'm adapting to the finance in the game properly but I'm plugging along slowly. Having a tough season and a half than previous seasons.

How's your team doing? I don't think we've played in awhile. :D

Yeah, I got hurt a little by the split, but all in all I think it was the right long term decision. I made the Major League this year, but have 2 losses in my first 2 games. It's going to be tough to stay up.

Financially my Little League has been churning out players long enough that the first ones are about to be to old to play for the youth team, so I'll start selling more players, which should allow me to improve the team quite a bit, I hope. I've never had more than 100k or so.

Spiff. I've been selling off some of the original players I've had as they start reaching the upper tier of improving age. I'm FINALLY seeing some slightly better products coming out of my little league so that will be interesting to see if the trend continues.

I've been around the 100 mark a few times and spent the money on upgrading my arena which seems silly since gate money is split but I couldn't resist. :D

There is also Planetarium Manager. I haven't played it yet, but a lot of Hattrickers play it and say it's a cross between Hattrick and the CM/FM games. It, like Hattrick, is an online sim.

Anybody here play it? http://www.pmanager.org/

Good deal, thanks... Now, generally speaking, what circumstances dictate the usage of each? What approach should I take to determine which strategy would be best on a game-by-game basis, basically? Just reading your descriptions, my uneducated guesses would be:

-Use long ball if you have a good striker(s)?
-Direct sounds like 'clearing the puck' in hockey - just get it out of your zone and downfield, maybe if your opponent is mad good offensively?
-Short sounds like ball control, just playing keep away from your opponent, very conservative, maybe if you are huge favorites to win and want to avoid mistakes?

And when would I want to go All Offense or All Defense instead of any of the above? If just ridiculous mismatches seem to jump out in the lineups?

Am I waaaaay off base here?
I'm thinking yes.

Thanks again in advance.
