I figured I would do something like this to keep track of my college progress.

I am attending the University of Findlay (http://www.findlay.edu), majoring in Business Management. U. of Findlay is a private school so tuition costs are insane, luckily I took quite a few credit hours at Lima Technical College in Lima, Ohio a few years back when I was pursuing a degree in CIS: Multimedia. I still have quite a few transfer credits available so I will be taking some classes at Owens Community College in Findlay, which is right across the street from U. of Findlay. At OCC I can take 3-4 classes to equal the cost of 1 class at UF. :rolleyes:

Spring 2005 Recap
June 6, 2005

Yesterday I took my final for my Coporate Finance class, I wasn't really motivated to study so I struggled on the test. I knew going into the test that I already had a 75% if I just went in and signed my name on the test, all I needed was a 40% to get a final grade of a B in the class. I'd like to think I did at least that well.

The Marketing Principles class has been over for two months, I hate Marketing but I managed to get a B.

Overall I am a little disappointed with myself because I got two B's and my goal was to get two A's since both classes were held at seperate times so I was really just taking one class at a time. Part of this I blame because of lack of motivation, I dreaded both of these classes. Also coaching baseball really limited the amount of time I had available to study and keep up with our assignments.

Summer Classes Begin
June 6, 2005

Today things are going to change for me, I am no longer a part-time to student with a full-time job. I am now a full-time student with a full-time job and will be for the next year and a half. Luckily my boss is pretty flexible with my hours, so now on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday I am working from 5:00a-1:30p.

PHL 101 - Introduction to Philosophy - Mon/Tue/Thu from 2:00p-3:50p.
ECO 201 - Microeconomics - Tue/Thu from 6:00p-8:50p.
MTH 122 - Math for Computing - Web Based Course

At University of Findlay:
HPE 100 - Wellness: Strategies for Life - Mon/Wed from 6:00p-9:30p

So I am taking 12 credit hours, my understanding is the Wellness class is pretty easy depending on your professor. Philosopy sounds interesting, Math for Computing I think should be easier and I am dreading Microeconomics.

Good luck! Full-time student with full-time job is bordering on psychosis. I went through that fall semester when I was taking 12 credits and working 30 hours a week. (Okay so 30 isn't full time, but I was working 10 hours a day on the weekends so I had no life outside of school and work)

Last semester I took 18 credits which was insane of me, but luckily work cut me back to 10 hours a week so I was able to maintain some bit of lucidity. Of course, I also took several 300-level courses as part of those 18 credits so once again I had no life. :D

I've been through it before a few years back, then I had an extra hour of drive time. Luckily these two schools are less than 5 minutes from my apartment.

I don't know, the last two terms I took 16 and 17 credits and worked ~40 hrs/week (between two jobs). Not that I had/have much of a life, but my time wasn't overly stressed, either.

What job is it that you have?

I am a Supplier Quality Engineer, in automotive. Times are really slow. Going in at 5am allows me a couple hours of study time before anyone else gets there if I need it. :)

It's really the only major I could see myself going back to school for, I tried a few majors a couple years ago before I just quit going to school but Sports Management was the one I always wanted to do.

Well day 1 of the Summer Semester is complete.

Philosophy is indeed interesting, but its going to take a lot of work for me to keep up. He wants us to read the first two chapters before tomorrow's class. That isn't going to happen.

Wellness is kind of cool, its mostly common sense health / lifestyle stuff. There are three hot chicks in that class plus the women's volleyball team practices in the gym right next to the classroom. I'm going to like this class :)

Math for Computing seems to be harder than I thought it was going to be, I have a 75% on the 1st chapter homework assignments. I have a few days before I need to have the Chapter 1 test complete, I think I am going to use those days to study quite a bit. Hopefully by Friday I will be ready to take the test.

What is your Math for Computing class like? Matrix and linear-type algebra?

It is only dealing with Polynomials, Real Numbers, and shit like that right now. It really shouldn't be that hard but its not a piece of cake like I thought it was going to be. I've never gotten any less than an A in a math class before. I kind of took it for granted from the start that is going to have to change.

Well kids, I have a correction to make. I got an 83% on my Corporate Finance test, making my final grade an A instead of a B. Sweet :)

Well as of two minutes ago I have dropped the Micoeconomics course. Reasons being:
1) THE MAIN REASON: Four accelerated courses at one time is to much.
2) The professor was a tool, at one point he lectured for 20+ minutes while staring at the chalkboard because of this I will probably take the class at U. of Findlay
3) This does not really put me behind at all. I can add this class either this Fall or next Spring with no problems.

Seems like I am pussing out but I think this is best, rather than kill myself. Talked this over with both of my College Advisors and they both thought it was a good idea, taking four classes that are supposed to be stretched over four months but are crammed into two months is insane. The one told me when I signed up for classes, "you are crazy, I think this is too much for a Summer semester." I had to tell him he was right. Oh well.

Just a little update....

Math for Computing is going well, I just finished my 2nd test with a 85%. Some of the questions are tricky, I know the answers but get confused by the wording...oh well. Right now I have a B (84.5%) in class. Not bad, can do better.

Wellness class is such a waste of time, we have a test on Monday. Time to study for that.

Philosophy is just odd, it is interesting though. I just finished up my first paper, hopefully I do well. Who knows though.

You have what is perhaps the smallest defensive line since the filming of "Little Giants". That's with out even figuring in the standard height/weight inflation that goes into the program.

Oh, econ...it's a time sink. It's just like calc for a non-math person, or accounting for a non-business person. You have to do it, do it every day, and actually understand it to do well. That's my experience with it at any rate.

I live right behind the practice field, last year they were pretty small. I think they finished 6-5. I guess this year they are expecting to make the playoffs, we shall see. We have to really good running backs, Simpson and Baraka. There is also a kid that transfered from Miami (OH) that they are really high on.

This is much more of a basketball school though, I'd be surprised if they are not ranked in the Top 5 in the preseason polls. Last year they were ranked #1 for the last few weeks and got knocked out in the Elite 8 or whatever it was called.

Finished my Wellness class last Wednesday, more than likely with a low B or a high C. Summer school blows.

Bad news, I didn't pay my tution at OCC in time so I was dropped from all my classes. Including my online class so I haven't had access to that for a week and I took a week off before that so I am way behind. Today I got reregistered, but I am still not able to do anything online. I have the next two weeks off a work so hopefully this bullshit gets resolved soon so I can finish up quickly.

Interesting read Bulldog, I'm originally from Toledo, so I've spent plenty of time visiting friends down there at Findlay. It's a nice, small, quiet campus. Good luck with the sports management, it was always something I wanted to study. Go Oilers!

So I have been trying to catch up on my Math for Computing class with a goal of at least one chapter a day, Chapter 6 took me 9 frikkin hours to complete on Monday. Today my goal is to get 8, 9, and 10 done so I can finish up tomorrow and buy NCAA '06 on Friday :)

Well it's finals week for my Philosophy class, I'm have a 86 B right now. I pretty much have to bomb it to not get the required C, since transfer classes do not count for my GPA I don't really care what I get as long as it is a C but I am still going to try to get that B.

Still haven't gotten my grade for my Wellness class, its been a month I don't know WTF is going on with that.

I was looking through the Classifieds on OHSAA's website, and there are 5 openings for Athletic Directors and 1 for an Assistant AD at Upper Arlington (one of the top athletic programs in the state). Bummer, hopefully there are some quality jobs like these available when I graduate.

For me, 1 credit hour ~~ 1 hour/week of work, so for me that would be a very reasonable and extremely manageable schedule -- hopefully it works out the same for you!!! (FTR, I'll probably end up taking 17 hours with 20-30 hours of work at my main job and 10 hours at my second job)

Dude, I wish there was Sports Management at Wright. I am about to change majors to Undecided, but all I can think about is that I love really one thing and that is sports. I don't know if it is enough to get me to transfer, however..

(I'm going off memory there, too lazy to look them up today.)

The Fall Semester was very stressful, even though I only took two classes both on the weekend but EVERY weekend instead of every other weekend like UF. The second weekend of class my Grandmother passed away. The fourth weekend I broke my nose playing flag football. Plus a bunch of other personal things.

But! All is good because as of yesterday the Fall Semester is over, thank god.

Managerial Accounting - I really dreaded this class at the beginning of the semester because I have not done well in accounting classes since the high school days, maybe it was lack of ambition I am not sure. Anyway, this class was EASY. The professor was pretty laid back and made sure everyone knew the material before giving tests, there was only 4 people in the class so it was easy. Final Grade - 91% (A)

Introduction to Astronomy - This class was Sunday on Sunday nights, it seemed I had the worst luck on Sundays, ie - broken nose and all the other personal things seemed to culminate on Sunday's were I had tests. I absolutely hated the class, I don't see how the composition of Pluto will someday effect a business decision I make. My attitude for this class sucked, so did my grade. Final Grade - 73% (C)

The professor I have for Microeconomics is not very well liked by students that have had her before, so I am a little nervous about this class but in the past those are the classes I do best. That's really the only class I am too worried about.

Cool! I'm finding most of the business/management classes to be rather simple, mostly common sense stuff...or it might be because I've been working in a "management" position for almost 7 years.

That's the definition of Operations Management (as far as I understood, at least)... VERY rudimentary forecasting, etc.

Spring 2006 Recap

I ended up dropping Seminar in Sports Management because it was going to be too time consuming, we had to write several papers, read two books, give an hour long presentation, etc.

All of my classes except Business Research are complete, it still goes until June 3. I did ok, considering I was very unmotivated this semester, for some odd reason. The Operations Management class was by far the worst class I have ever taken, VERY boring and the professor didn't exactly do anything to help.

I was talking with my advisor earlier this week and he suggested I change my major, partly because UF is dropping Sports Management and most of the Sports Management classes are only offered during the day. So I have switched to Business Management, but I intend on getting my Master's in Sports Management once this is complete.

A big wrench could be thrown into all of this, as my employer is looking at closing one of the two locations I work at. Doing so will cause quite a bit of layoffs and juggling of salary staff. I have requested a transfer to one of our southern plants, so even though I have this schedule planned it might not happen. I'm just going to continue with it until I hear otherwise.
