The following items were fixed or added for version 5.1d of Front Office Football 2004 (the patch also includes all fixes from earlier versions):

1) Fixed an issue that caused the first play of all games simulated in the same second to use the same random number sequences.

2) Added warnings in the multi-player game for when an exported stage file might cause the AI to shuffle the depth chart or make roster changes.

3) Fixed the assignment of salaries for franchise players in the multi-player game.

4) Fixed an improper rejection of rookie contracts for cap reasons when the owner already has 53 players signed in the multi-player game.

5) Cleaned up some printing problems on the career statistics screen.

6) Added some conditions that might generate contract holdouts for underpaid players.

Wow. Well, since I've still never said it "loud&clear" on the board: Jim, thanks for making this great game, and thanks again for the excellent support. You have a customer for life here. I'm really waiting, as everybody, for your next game's announce.

What if the next game sucks?

Inconceivable!

Unless it deals with boring sports like baseball or hockey. :)

You keep on using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

1) Fixed an issue that caused the first play of all games simulated in the same second to use the same random number sequences.

Was this that Return for TD on the kickoff issue?

3) Fixed the assignment of salaries for franchise players in the multi-player game.
What was wrong with it? Maybe its just the wookie like instincts in me, but I didn't see anything that was wrong.

6) Added some conditions that might generate contract holdouts for underpaid players.
Care to Elaborate? Weather conditions?

Yes, although that was just a symptom - there were consistant stretches of touchbacks, coin flips, etc as well.

It's a question of when the salaries are calculated - should be as calculated at the end of last season, iirc; not at the beginning of the new - this could cause wild franchise salaries due to balloon payments and the like.

the 5.1b player file should still work with this patch, right?

Nice to see a patch, though not all that much for the solo player here.

I think SP is pretty well tuned and I certainly wouldn't expect Jim to put time into tweaking a 2 year old game unless there's a big issue (like #1 on the fix list) I'd rather have him work on his new game(s) :D

I am having a problem installing the patch. I downloaded it and saved it to my computer. Opened it and ran it and got this message: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. This system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I am receiving an error referring to a system file deemed unsuitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications (Autoexec.bat or Config.sys). Sometimes I see a message referring to a "16-bit subsystem" or autoexec.nt. What can I do?

Windows XP still uses these system files, even though they're less important than they were in the past, and can be targeted by malicious programmers and spyware. Please visit Microsoft Support (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767) for a description of this particular problem. Also, you can go to Visual Tour.com (http://www.visualtour.com/downloads/default.asp) and download their XP_Fix.EXE program. This often clears up the problem..

Good point. I keep forgetting it's been out that long. ;)

Sure would be nice to see a TCY2, though.

Actually, I understood it a little different..

I thought the problem was that if more than one team franchised the same position, they received different values on their contract because it readjusted the franchise value based on what the first player received?

3) Fixed the assignment of salaries for franchise players in the multi-player game. It's a question of when the salaries are calculated - should be as calculated at the end of last season, iirc; not at the beginning of the new - this could cause wild franchise salaries due to balloon payments and the like.I'm making a guess that this refers to the bug that would assign different franchise values to players of the same position as the franchise salary was being calculated based on the inclusion of the previous players' franchise salary.

this was definitely fixed in an earlier patch.

i have no idea what this new update does, though. my guess would be like others mentioned, it wasnt correctly assigning the proper value of the franchise tag....guess the math was off somewhere.
