I got frustrated a bit while shopping online for a digital camera last week. You keep seeing bizrate.com, fatwallet.com, shopping.com, froogle.com, but they're set for american customers. While I probably could have found a good price for a digital camera on the american side of the border, I got scared away by the possible customs fees.
Maybe you all know about this site, but I found it just last week. Site is called Red Flag Deals (www.redflagdeals.com (http://www.redflagdeals.com)) and it gives you all kinds of deals, coupons, mail-in rebates, that you can use in canadian online, and offline stores. For example, I found a little known coupon code for staples.ca that gave me 30$cdn off any purchase over 200$cdn. Turned out the camera I wanted was available for 199.99$cdn. Threw in two pens to get it to 201 and the coupon went into effect... If anybody's interested, coupon was supposedly good until June 30. Enter code 50928 to redeem.
Anyway, if it can be used by one other FOFCer, it'll be all good :)
If you know of another similar site, share it...

awwww jeebs, my boy, now you're talking... You able to get that stuff in the States? Unibroue is the best, it really is... Personally, the Eau Bénite (http://www.unibroue.com/products/eau.cfm) is my favourite. Fruity, tasty, simply great. You remind me, it's been an awfully long time since the last time I've bought any... *makes note to self to grab some when doing the groceries this weekend*
Funny story about these beers. When I was working in Pittsfield, MA, I would come back home every couple of months or so and I brought down a six pack of these beers for and gave a couple to one of my employees at one point. Right then and there, he was hooked. Couldn't find it in Massachusetts at the time, I was bringing him back a six pack everytime I went back home... Even bought him a Fin du Monde (http://www.unibroue.com/products/fin.cfm) t-shirt (http://www.unibroue.com/products/fin-accessoire2.cfm?numero=20)... :)

There's a bar chain here called The Flying Saucer (http://www.beerknurd.com) that has something like 200 different kinds of beer from all around the world. It's become one of my favorite places to go and grab a few...
Anyways, I love dark beers so I've been making my way through the dark beer part of the menu. I tried Trois Pistoles last week, and it was heaven. Best beer I've had in a while, including my old new-favorite Spaten Optimator (http://www.spatenusa.com/3_products/3_1_prod_spectrum/content.htm#).
Have you had Maudite, FM? It's also on the menu there but I haven't got around to it yet...

That's cool. I can't remember if I've ever tried the Trois Pistoles (which btw means what you may think it means, "three pistols" or "three guns" and is also the name of a town in Quebec, maybe once. I might try it again, but I'm not a big fan of dark beers.
The Maudite (which means "damned" in French) is a very strong beer, with a strong taste if I remember correctly, but it's been a few years since I've had one. It was actually the favorite of the employee I was telling about in the previous post. Not really for me, but another beer afficionado from Montreal swore by that beer so much, it was almost funny. Try it if you like dark ones...
Cheers! :)

oh and try some Eau Bénite if it's available, even if you're not a fan of blonde, it's not your typical blonde (no pun intended ;)) Fwiw, Eau Bénite=Holy Water in French :)

No, no Eau Bénite. However, they do have Unibroue Ephemere, La Fin du Monde (certainly going to have to try that one if your friend loved it so much), and Don da Dieu. Man, and for all these years I was thinking that all Canadian beer was like Blue... :)

Dark beer? Try to find some Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout. Your problems will all be solved.

How does it compare to Young's Oatmeal Stout? I tried that once and it didn't really leave a favorable impression on me...

Awww, that's sad. We'll have to arrange a shpiment of some sort at one point ;)
Ephemere is a more recent one and I've never tried it. The Fin du Monde has always been one of my favorites and maybe the first ever Unibroue I tried. At 9% alc./vol, it is very strong though. You don't drink too many of those ;) The Don de Dieu, I don't remember trying, I may have, simply don't remember.

LOL!!! Learn something new everyday, huh? ;)
There's also another very interesting one, called Quelque Chose (http://www.unibroue.com/products/qqch.cfm)(means "Something Else") a beer that can be taken as a hot drink after dinner. It's got a wild cherry taste that is mighty impressive. They say it's only available at the SAQ, which is the "Société des Alcools des Alcools du Québec" the place where they sell liquor and stronger stuff, so it's probably not available to you...

Sam Smith's is the only Oatmeal Stout I've ever really liked. I've never tried Young's, though. I don't even really like stouts that much - I usually go for a nice amber lager, or possibly a porter.

I just found out that pricegrabber has a canadian version of their site at www.pricegrabber.ca (http://www.pricegrabber.ca). While they do show a lot of american sellers, simply converting their price to canadian dollars, they do show the seller's location when you do a search on an item...

I was having drinks with a buddy last night. We started talking about beer when he said...
"Dude, I found this beer that you have to try, I know you would love it. It's a Canadian beer...French Canadian I think. It's called...Trois...Trois...Trois Pistoles or something."
The dude actually found a store here in town that sells it! I'm about to head up there to get some (he said it's about $10 for a four pack) and I'm gonna see if they have any of the other Unibroue beers available...
What luck!

I've had the Spaten Optimator before. There's a new German-style beer hall in my neighborhood and they serve it in liter mugs. My personal favorite is the Spaten Munich lager.

SWEET!!! Funny you bumped this thread as I meant to do it on Monday. I had bought two big bottles (750ml) of Unibroue beers a couple of weeks ago, an Ephemere and an Eau Bénite and I drank the Ephemere (http://www.unibroue.com/products/ephemere-pomme.cfm) last weekend. As you can see from the website, it's a beer with an apple taste. From what I understand, it's their third brew of the Ephemere series and they change the taste everytime. It tasted kind of weird for the couple first sips, then it got old fast. I don't know, it wasn't one of my favourites...
I probably will drink the Eau Benite this weekend :)
