Well, thge DD finally got to us and away we go. Here is how Moose Jaw looks at the beginning of the 2004 season.

Head Coach: Steve Young
A pretty good positional coach, but not very good at the "head coach" stuff. I need someone who has a higher Adaptability (5) and Level of Discipline (6). The search begins.

No Assistant Coaches
I'll be looking for a couple.

Head Scout: Kim Dryka
Judging Player Ability: 11
Judging Player Potential: 13

Scouts
My best scout is Rob MacLachian (13,13). He'll always be assigned to young players and the Bantam Draft. At the juniors, it's essentiallly college. Players don't stick around long so I need my best scout on the incoming talent.

I have 6 other scouts, most of them are not all that good.

I have 3 trainers (all 20)

Next up, Roster

Goalies

Moose Jaw Roster

#33 Sam Huston
Age: 16
Eligability: 4 years left
Comments: Technically, he's pretty sound. All attributes are rated from 7 to 11. His mental attributes, however, need work. He definately needs better Anticipation (6), Work Rate (6) and Influence (5).

#34 Josh Lepp
Age: 19
Eligability: 1 year left
Comments: Rated 8 through 10 in his technical abilities. His mental attributes are much better than Huston's. The only thing that would really need improvement is his Influence (6)

#31 Joey Perricone
Age: 17
Eligability: 3 years left
Comments: Rated 8 through 10 in his technical abilites (slightly better than Lepp). Mentally, he's noticably lower than Lepp, although none of his mentals are anything to worry about.

Starter: Josh Lepp
Backup: Joey Perricone

I may send Huston to Pilot Butte so he can get some playing time.

CHL Rights (goalies that I have the rights to but are not on my roster)

Bryan Allard
Age: 18
Eligability: 2 years left
Comments: Erratic Technically. A 6 in passing, but a 15 in Recovery and 14 in Stickhandling (not sure how much Stickhandling helps a goalie. Bloacking with the stick?) Other than those two, he's rated 6 (passing) through 10. Mentally, he's pretty brave and has a lot of flair. Mmm...don't much like flair in ym goalies. I want them to be stoic, unovable forces. Not..flair.

Evan Karembelas
Age: 15
Eligability: 4 years left
Comments: Physically gifted, but mentally and technically, he's no where near being ready. He needs to improve fast if he wants a shot at Moose Jaw.

Cameron Reid
Age: 16
Eligability: 4 years left
Comments: Technically getting there (6-9). Physically needs work. His Balance (3) and Strength (4) are terrible. Good Work Rate (12), but mentally needs a lot of work everywhere else.

Defensemen

#5 Cole Butterfield LD
Age: 17
Eligability: 2 years left
Comments: Average player all around with good Determination (12).

#27 Derek Edwards LD
Age: 17
Eligability: 3 years left
Comments: Slightly below average player all around

#20 Stuart Kerr LD (OVR - counts as overage player)
Age: 20
Eligability: No eligability after season.
Comments: Average player with some good mental attributes. Determination (13), Bravery (14) and Aggression (15). He's an intimidator. I like that (but it'd be nice if he was a little stronger (Strength: 12))

#2 Greg Park LD
Age: 18
Eligability: 1 year left
Comments: Like Stuart Kerr, an intimidator who is a little more physically gifted and he knows how to check (Checking: 14).

#4 Artem Polikarpov LD
Age: 17
Eligability: 2 years left
Comments: Average Physically, Average technically (with a great Wristshot (15)). Mentally very good. Anticiplation (15), Determination (15) and Influence (14).

#32 Cole Simpson LD
Age: 18
Eligability: 2 years left
Comments: Average Physically, Below Average Technically and Mentally.

#6 Dan Ehrman RD (OVR)
Age: 19
Eligability: No eligability after season
Comments: Average Physically and Mentally, Slightly below average Technically

#3 Jordan Henry
Age: 18
Eligability: 2 years left
Comments: Average player. Good Bravery (14)

(How the coach sees it)

Defenders
Line 1: Park - Ehrman
Line 2: Kerr - Henry
Line 3: Simpson - Butterfield
Line 4: Edwards - Polikarpov

These might change if I change the head coach.

CHL Rights

Too many to list each of them. Here are some that stick out to me.

Dylan Chapman
Age: 16
Eligability: 3 years
Comments: A slow player (Speed: 4), but physically average otherwise. VERY aggressive (19), Determination (15), Work Rate (13). Can hit hard (Hitting: 13) and checks very well (13). Talk about an intimidator! His speed worries me and his agreesion is too much. He'd spend a lot of time in the penalty box.

Garrett Lasko
Age: 16
Eligability: 4 years left
Comments: Good Delfections (12), good Slapshot (12). Good Determination (12). Physically above average. Could have a very good chance of making my roster next year. If I get a few defensemen going down to injury, I may bring him in sooner.

Cal O'Connor
Age: 17
Eligability: 2 years left
Comments: Physically and Mentall above average, but Technically below average. I like him a lot, but his technically skills are down. I may still bring him in so I can control his training.

Michael Trebish
Age: 15
Eligability: 4 years left
Comments: For a 15 year old, his mental attributes are pretty good. Bravery (14), Aggression (13), Determination (13), Work Rate (12). Technically needs a lot of work.

Comments: Average player, low teamwork (5) but high determination (13). Low Balance (5) as well.

#19 Masi Marjamaki LW/RW
Age: 19
Eligability: 1 year left
Comments: Already drafted by the Boston Bruins. Average technically, above average physically and very good mentally.

#12 Kenndal McArdle LW/RW
Age: 17
Eligability: 2 years left
Comments: Average technically, very good physically and mentally.

#15 Garrett Robinson LW/RW
Age: 16
Eligability: 4 years left.
Comments: Below Average

#16 Dustin Boyd C
Age: 18
Eligability: 2 years left
Comments: Drafted by the Calgary Flames. Abover average physically and mentally, average technically.

#10 Jacob Dietrich C
Age: 17
Eligability: 3 years left
Comments: Above average physically, average mentally and technically

#23 Steven Gillen C
Age: 18
Eligability: 2 years left
Comments: Average all around

#21 Riley Holzapfel C
Age: 16
Eligability: 4 years left
Comments: Could become a star. Gifted physically, average mentally (Determination: 13), technically average. Very fast (Speed 15, Acceleration 13)

#14 Blair Jones C
Age: 17
Eligability: 2 years left
Comments: Fast (Speed 13, Acceleration 13) and flashy (Flair 15). Good determination (13). Average otherwise.

#11 Justin Scott C
Age: 16
Eligability: 3 years left
Comments: Average all around

#18 Brennen Wray C
Age: 16
Eligability: 3 years left
Comments: Slightly below average with terrible teamwork (5)

#22 Troy Brouwer RW/LW
Age: 19
Eligability: 1 year left
Comments: Drafted by the Blackhawks. As with most of my already drafted players, abover average mentally and physically, average technically.

#26 Ian McKenzie RW/C
Age: 17
Eligability: 3 years left
Comments: Below Average

#29 Carter Smith RW
Age: 16
Eligability:4 years left
Comments: Below average but with good determination (14)

How the coach lines them up

Line 1: McArdle - Jones - Brouwer
Line 2: Marjamaki - Boyd - McKenzie
Line 3: Herman - Gillen - Smith
Line 4: Holzapfel - Scott - Dietrich

CHL Rights

A lot. Here are just a few stand outs

Ryley Gantham LW
Age: 16
Eligability: 4 years left
Comments: Good physically, low mentally but has good teamwork (11), influence (12) and work rate (14). Also below average technically, but he can pass (13) and is great on the faceoff (15). I may sign him so I can train him as a center.

Mitrch Kelly RW
Age: 15
Eligability: 4 years left
Comments: Above average physically and mentally, but has poor anticipation (5). Needs work technically, but is good on the faceoff (14).

And there we have it.

I bring in a defensive player to camp. Lane Manson is a player I have the rights to and is in his last year of eligability. He was just released by his team and figured I'd bring him into camp and see if he impresses. He did not play in the above scrim.

Moose Jaw TC News
Team Blue wins 4-3
O'Connor, Robinson and Jones impressed.

Final Cut day. Well, no cuts because I can't afford to cut anyone as I have a bare roster and I didn't bring anyone except Manson into camp. Manson he did ok (6.67) in his 3 scrims, but has been solid (8) in the exhibitions. However, Head Coach Andy Berry does not think Manson belongs on the roster. In fact, looking over his stats, he spends a lot of time in the box so I think I will be passing on Manson.

Looks like Dietrich is doing well right now. Gillen's impressing consistently looks to be good foreshadowing too. :)

Yeah, I'm surprised at their outcomes so far. Both seemed to be unimpressive, average players on paper. Hopefully they keep it up.

Moose Jaw Trade with Lethbridge
Lethbridge Gets: G Sam Huston, rights to RD Jeremy Schappert
Moose Jaw Gets: LW/C Dustin Sather, 2005 Bantam Draft Round 8 Pick

Sather is 18 years old and has 2 years left. I think he could add some spark to my struggling offense. I get in return a midround draft pick. I gave up a goalie who I don't think would have developed into a good goalie and the rights to a defensemen who I am not sure about. Schappert looks like he could become a good defensemen.

Comments about Sather: He is a physical monster. Fast (16 Speed, 16 Acceleration, Agility 12) and can last a long time (Stamina 17). Good Teamwork (14), Bravery (13) and Aggression (13). Technically slightly below average, however (all attributes 7-11). But then most players on my team and in the Canadian junior leagues are technically average or lower. He'll easily make 2nd line.

Things have been going downhill a lot. I'm just a couple of points of people out of the playoff picture.

I have offered on my scouts the role as Assistent GM to help me better look over the roster. Rob MacLachian is the best scout I have (13 - Potential, 12 Ability). I looked outside of the team but no one caught my eye.

I'm also looking to get at least 2 more Assistent Coaches. I had forgotten that I only had one, and I think my players are hurting because of it. So I'm going after 2, maybe even a 3rd.

I'm also thinking of taking over the tactics personally.

I fined Perricone 1-Week pay for his poor performance. He admits that he deserves the fine.

I have pretty much wirtten off this season. Lethbridge came to me for a trade for Kenndal McArdle and I am considering it. They are offering 3 players (2 signed and 1 rights). All three are decent players. Plus, they offered 3 draft picks (2005 3rd Round, 2006 3rd Round, 2007 3rd Round). I countered with the same players, but for 2 1st Round picks and a 6th Round pick. We'll see what happens.

Dec 28, 2004

Lethbridge wants to make the deal.

Now, some people might be yelling "What? You have one of THE best WHL players and you are going to trade him!?" Let me explain. McArdle has 2 years of eligability left. This year is already a wash. We really have no chance of making it far in the playoffs, if we make it to the playoffs at all. Which basically gives me 1 more run with McArdle. This trade lets me build for the future. Lets me build a lot.

G Daniel Spence (1-Star)
Age: 16
Eligability: 4 years left.
I don't hold out much hope for this one. But, he already has good technical kepper skills. His problem is mental and and I'm very shallow at G right now.

LW/RW Micheal Kaye (3-Star)
Age: 17
Eligability: 2 years left.
Pretty much a slightly below average player all around. He's basically roster filler for the spot being left open by McArdle.

LW/RW Dwight King (3-Star)
Age: 15
Eligability: 4 Years
I can't see all of his attributes, but I like what I see from most of them. He was taken by Lethbridge in last year's draft in Round 1 (#4). He could develope into a great player.

Draft Picks: 2005 1st Round, 2006 1st Round, 2006 6th Round.

I take the trade.

Moose Jaw Trade Proposal
Jacob Dietrich has quietly been gaining reputation. In 22 games, he has 43 points (22G, 21A) and an Average Rating of 8.23. I'm very hesitant to trade him because, unlike McArdle, he has 3 years left in eligability.

3 teams came with trade proposals and 2 were rejected immediately.

However, Kootenay has offered an interesting deal. They are offering 3 players and 2 draft picks. One player, who has great attributes but terrible stats, is named Brett Sutter. On paper, he alone is better than Dietrich. For some reason, he just hasn't produced. And then there are the draft picks which I could, as I did before, try and bump them up to 1st Round picks.

I delayed the trade for a week. This may cause Kootenay to pull the proposal, but I want to have my scouts check out the players involved before I make any decisions.

Moose Jaw Player News
The hammer is coming down hard on Perricone. I fined him 2-week's pay for his poor performance and he responded that it was unfair. Then a news story came out attacking Perricone. I responded by Critisizing Perricone which the fans and the board both felt was right.

I have set Perricone's status as Available. We'll see if he gets any action when trading begins again on June 1st.

And the best news. Regina lost their final game, and we have 1 more point than them. We made the playoffs!

Signings
I've been spreading the wealth as I've been signing a lot of unsigned prospects. The one that really pissed me off though was Dwight King turning down our contract and taking one from Salmon Arm, a team in the British Columbia Hockey League...ugh.

Rundown of roster will come in September.

Signings
We were able to convince Dwight King to come to our team (most likely due to a $6k bonus). So we finally sign him.

Love the dynasty ! Especially the last minute playoff berth. At my very first E3 last year, we played an NHL season with Atlanta and ended up tied with NY Islanders before the final game of the season, which was played against...yep...Isles. We had already given up on playoffs at the trade deadline and had offloaded quite a lot of vets. But we somehow won the last game and went through.

And just like you, we got only one win in the first round before being ousted :D

Keep it up. I like reading the dynasties from the junior level.

Thanks for the comments riz. It was pretty exciting at the end there, fighting for the playoff spot. Hopefully we can make it into the second round this year, but I'm not holding my breathe. Losing some veteren players.

Moose Jaw Trade
As the end of July approaches, the beginning of training camp will soon be here and it's time to start trading and imrpoving my position. My strategy in the upcoming trades are to trade for young talent for old talent.

Trade with Swift Current
Moose Jaw gets: C/RW Michael Kay
Swift Current gets: C Brennen Wray

Wray disappointed me a lot this last season. I didn't expect much from him, and I got less than that. Kay is a fast forward who is also brave and aggresive with average technical skills.

Trade with Tri-City
Moose Jaw gets: C Ryan McDonald
Tri-City gets:C Justin Scott

Scott was another disappointment with only 10 points in 37 games last year. He is still young and may yet develope, but I noticed Ryan McDonald and wanted him on my team. He's a speedy center who knows how to score. Both are the same age and the result of this trade will be known in 2 years, but I think I made out better in this trade.

Trade with Lethbridge
Moose Jaw gets: RW/LW Shane Gimas
Lethbridge gets: C Steven Gillen and 2006 3rd Round Bantam Draft pick

Gillen is a player who did great for me in training camp, but once the season started he fell apart. He's only got 1 year left now and saw a chance to dump him for a player with some years left (2 actually). Gimas is another fast offensiveman, but he's also strong and can hit. I wanted him on my team and thought he was worth a 3rd round pick. We'll see if that holds up as Gimas was a disappointment last year for the teams he played on.

As you can see, I'm trying to build a team around speed. I want a team that will skate circles around the competition. :)

Moose Jaw Trade
Moose Jaw gets: Medicine Hat 2006 Round 2 Pick, Medicine Hat Round 4 (from Brandon) Pick
Medicine Hat gets: C Blair Jones

Blair Jones gets a lot of attention, but he wasn't exceptional for me last year (36 points, 7.45 AvR). And he's only got 1 year left so I jumped at the chance to grab a few picks for next year's draft.

Aug 24, 2005

Moose Jaw Trade
Moose Jaw gets: RD Kellan Turner, rights to C Joel Freisen
Vancouver gets: RW/C Ian McKenzie

McKenzie was terrible last year. Don't know why anyone would want him, but Vancouver is welcome to him. Kellan Turner is a throwaway player, but Joel Freisen is a real prospect.

Haven't really been reading your dynasty much since I've been doing a Brandon career myself (currently at the 2005 Bantam Draft). I won the East with the Wheaties, but was knocked out of the 1st round by the Warriors after taking a 2-0 series lead (grrrrrrrr). They're a pain in the ass and McArdle is a fricking stud. The number one problem I'm having is goaltending, which is strange because I've got one of the best in Tyler Plante. He was just a 17 year-old this last year though.

According to the stats, Perricone was a good goalie, but he still wasn't good enough to my standard. Finding a great goalie at this level seems to be very hard. That's why I've gone in the direction of trying to build an offensive powerhouse team (opposite to my own personal RL philosphy to sports in general. I'm very much a defensive guy). Trying to go for a "Best show on ice" kind of thing to overwhelm my opponents instead of grinding out wins with a below average goalie.

And if I land a great goalie at some point, even better. :)

Moose Jaw Tactics

I will be doing the tactics myself for this season. Kind of like an experiment.

Here are the lines

Line 1

LW - Masi Marjamaki
C - Dustin Boyd
RW - Troy Brouwer

LD: Greg Park
RD: Jacob Henry

My veteran line. Tried and true

Mentality: Attacking
Off.System: Passing
Off.Zone: Crash the Net
Forecheck: Passive Forecheck
Defense: Zonal
Backchecking: Normal
Pressing: Normal
Hitting: Normal
Board Battles: Finesse

I set Brouwer and Park individually to Board Battles: Power

Line 2

LW - Dustin Sather
C - Ryan McDonald
RW - Micahel Kay

LD - Ben Blood
RD - Nick Ross

My experiment line. Not the 5 "2nd best" players, but close to it. This line is built entirely around speed to overwhelm the defenses.

Mentality: Attacking
Off.System: Skating
Off.Zone: Crash the Net
Forecheck: Passive Forecheck
Defense: Zonal
Backchecking: Normal
Pressing: Normal
Hitting: Normal
Board Battles: Finesse

Nick Ross is set to Board Battles: Power

Line 3

LW - Dwight King
C - Aleksandr Romanovsky
RW - Shane Gimas

LD Lucas Folk
RD Dylan Chapman

My lockdown line. These guys are used to wear down the 1st and 2nd lines of the opponents so my team can do their thing.

Mentality: Defensive
Off.System: Passing
Off.Zone: Positional
Forecheck: High Forecheck
Defense: Zonal
Backchecking: Hard
Pressing: Hard
Hitting: Hard
Board Battles: Power

With these settings, I expect to take a lot of penalties....but they'll be hurting. We'll see how it goes.

Line 4

LW - Jacob Dietrich
C - Riley Holzapfel
RW - Bryce Macek

My leftover line...not a bad leftover line at all. The only problem is there isn't anything they are all good at, so everything is basically set to mixed.

Mentality: Normal
Off.System: Mixed
Off.Zone: Positional
Forecheck: Passive Forecheck
Defense: Zonal
Backchecking: Hard
Pressing: Normal
Hitting: Normal
Board Battles: Finesse

Next up, Power Play and Penalty Kill lines

sabotai
08-22-2005, 04:08 PM
PP Lines 5v4 and 5v3

Both are the same. Passing and Shooting attributes are the most important.

Line 1

LW - Dustin Sather
C - Dustin Boyd
RW - Masi Marjamaki

LD Greg Park
RD Jacob Henry

Mentality: Attacking
Off.System: Passing
Off.Zone: Umbrella
Forecheck: High Forecheck
Defense: Zonal
Backchecking: Normal
Pressing: Normal
Hitting: Normal
Board Battles: Finesse

Line 2

LW - Dwight King
C - Riley Holapfel
RW - Troy Brouwer

LD Nick Ross
RD Ben Blood

Mentality: Attacking
Off.System: Mixed
Off.Zone: Umbrella
Forecheck: High Forecheck
Defense: Zonal
Backchecking: Normal
Pressing: Normal
Hitting: Normal
Board Battles: Finesse

PK Lines 4v5

Line 1

It's all about defense.

C - Aleksandr Romanovsky
RW - Shane Gimas

LD Greg Park
RD Jacob Henry

Mentality: Defensive
Off.System: Mixed
PK System: Low Press
Defense: Zonal
Backchecking: Hard
Pressing: Normal
Hitting: Normal
Board Battles: Finesse

Line 2

C - Ryan McDonals
RW - Dwight King

LD Dylan Chapman
RD Lucas Folk

(Same system as Line 1)

PK Lines 3v5

Line 1

C - Aleksandr Romanovsky

LD - Greg Park
RD Jordan Henry

(Same system as Line 1 PK 4v5)

Line 2

C Ryan McDonald

LD Dylan Chapman
RD Lucas Folk

(Same System as Line 1 PK 4v5)

Even Strength 4v4 Lines

Line 1

Since 4v4 presents a good open ice situation, I base these two lines around speed and stickhandling.

C - Dustin Boyd
RW - Dustin Sather

LD Greg Park
RD Jordan Henry

Mentality: Attacking
Off.System: Passing
Off.Zone: Positional
Forecheck: Passive Forecheck
Defense: Zonal
Backchecking: Hard
Pressing: Normal
Hitting: Normal
Board Battles: Finesse

Line 2

C - Ryan McDonald
RW - Troy Brouwer

LD Ben Blood
RD Lucas Folk

(Same as Line 1)

Moose Jaw Regular Season Game
Saskatoon 4
Moose Jaw 3
(2-2,2-1,0-0)
3rd Star Troy Brouwer (1G)

After this game, I realized I forgot to set team orders. I set Line Matchup to: 1v3,2v2,3v1,4v4.

Captians: Dustin Boyd. Alt. Captians: Masi Marjamaki and Greg Park

Greg Park is out for 2 weeks with an ACL Sprain. Lucas Folk is taking his place in his lines and Travis Ehrhardt is dressed and in Folk's lines.

Moose Jaw Regular Season Game
Moose Jaw 3
Saskatoon 4
(1-1,2-3,0-0)
1st Star: Dwight King (1G,2A)

Dwight King scored 1 goal on his own, and the two other goals were deflections off of his shots. Great game by King. I'm proud of my team from being within 1 goal in back to back games with one of the best teams in the WHL.

Terrible News: Troy Brouwer is gone for 3 months due to a partially torn MCL. Shane Gimas will be moved to line 1 and will take over Brouwer's line positions. Daniel Hill will come in to replace Gimas at his positions. Hill is a good defensive forward so he'll fit well in the 3rd line.

Another OT lose. Dustin Boyd has failed to score a single goal so far this season (28 shots). He does have 12 assists though.

That seems to be my biggest problem now as a team. Either my guys simple can't score or are not taking smart shots. We have the worst shooting percentage in the league, 8.94%. The next team, Prince George, is at 9.72%, Brandon has 9.78% and every other team is over 10%.

Our other bad stat is PK, but we've been bring that up slowly (2/2 in the last game) so I don't think it will be bad for long. We just need to find a way to put the puck in the net.

A Look At The Team - 18 Games In

Who am I happy with

Dwight King - AvR 7.78 (highest on the team)
7 goals and 9 assists (16 points) in 18 games. He's one of the players I got in the Kenndal McArdle deal with Lethbridge (as was Daniel Spence who I'll get to later). He's been doing great for me and at 16 years old (4 years left), he's only going to get better.

Riley Holzapfel - AvR 7.76 (2nd best on team)
4 goals and 8 assists (12 points) in 17 games. 4th line center (12:47 Ave. Time on Ice (ATOI)). 16.7% Shoot Percentage. He helps make my 4th line a threat.

Masi Marjamaki - AvR 7.72
7 goals and 10 assists (17 points) in 18 games. Would probably have better stats if Boyd would pick up his game.

Who Am I So-So on

Shane Gimas - AvR 7.61
7 goals and 7 assists (14 points) in 18 games. Again, would have better stats if Boyd picked up his game, but when I was looking at Gimas, something jumped out at me. 13 giveaways, only 3 takeaways. As a comparison, Marjamaki only has 2 giveaways (only 1 TA though...). And Boyd is 6-2 GA-TA. Gimas has to stop turning the puck over.

Dustin Boyd - AvR 7.67
1 goal and 13 assists (14 points) in 18 games. 2.6% Shoot percentage. If he starts scoring, we start winning.

Who is in the Dog House

Ben Blood and Nick Ross (7.00 and 7.12 AvR respectively)
I mention them in the same breathe because my problem with them is the same. +/-. Specifically, Ben Blood is -16 (in 17 games) and Nick Ross is -17 (in 18 games). How much is the goalie and how much is the defensive line? Ross and Blood are on the same D lines and they can't seem to stop anyone.

Daniel Spence
.858 Save %, 4.91 GAA. He's not ready for primetime. I thought he was, he isn't. Lepp and Perricone go into rotation.

Daniel Hill - 7.19 AvR
3 points in 18 games, 41 PIM (high because of a game misconduct for fighting, which accounts for 15 PIM itself. Ben Blood is second with 25 PIM). For being on a line that's all about defense, his takeaway performance is pathetic (only 1 takeaway)

The Silver Lining

Troy Brouwer comes back from injury soon. He'll take back his spot on the first line and Gimas will go back to line 3, knocking Hill out of the lineup. My two backup defensmen, Trebish and Ehrhardt have been doing good in their games. In the next few games, I am pulling Blood and Ross out and sticking these two guys in to see how they do. I bring up Andre Herman for now to replace Daniel Hill.

When we last left our heroes

We were in 4th place in the divisio, but since Regina was doing so bad, we were practically assured a playoff spot. At the end of the season, we were still 4th and in the playoffs. We finished 27-30-10 with 5 OTL and 69 points which was slightly better than the 2004-2005 season.(24-34-11 and 3 OTL and 62 points)

We actually pull out a series win by upsetting Saskatoon in 6 games. We then went on and lost in the next round. Masi Marjamaki was once again named Player of the Year of rmoose Jaw by their fans.

Since then, I have cut or traded some players and both Masi Marjamaki and Troy Brouwer have left for the NHL. My team looks somewhat different now. Here's what has happened.

Update on the progress of my Kendell McArdle trade from 2 years ago

G Danial Spence - Traded to Red Deer. In return, I got the rights (and eventually signed) a 15 year old LW named Kyle Bournazakis. He has "meh" athletic and mental ratings, but he already is rated 14 in passing and 15 in stickhandling. The rest of his technical skills are decent. If I can make him more physically talented, he could become a great player in terms of getting the puck to the goal scorers.

LW/RW Michael Kaye - Traded to Prince Albert for their 2007 4th Round pick. PA liked Kaye enough to give a 4th rounder, but not enough to give a 2nd rounder. On paper, he should be a solid 2nd liner by now, but he's just not performing on my team. Bad training camp and uninspiring play in the exhibitions got him shipped out. Got tired of waiting for him to come around.

LW/RW Dwight King (Rights to, signed shortly after) - He is turning into a monster and still has 3 years (17 years old) of eligability left. Hell, in the end he might turn out to be worth the trade for McArdle by himself, let alone the 5 other things (2 players, 3 draft picks) that I got along with him. Technical skillwise, he's probably one of the, if not the, best defensive forward in the league. He just has to show it on the ice now. (18 Pokecheck, 17 Hitting, 12 Checking). And the rest of his technical skills are 10 or higher (9 for face offs, but he doesn't take face offs). And then there's only 3 attributes that are 10-11. Most of his skills are at 12. And he still has 3 years to go.

2005 Round 1 Pick - (#4 Overall) - Picked LW Kevin Norton. A 16 year old. Good physical, pretty good Mental, below average Technical. He's signed but his camp just wasn't good enough to get a spot on the roster. He's on the farm team, Pilot Butte, for now.

2006 - Round 1 Pick - (#1 Overall) - C/RW Colin Swanson. 15 years old. This guy is a phenom just wating to happen. His attributes already look good enough to start on my team. Ashame I'm not allowed to sign him yet. I can't even imagine what he'll be like once I can sign him and start training him. He could, by himself, be worth the trade alone.

2006 - Round 6 Pick - (#101 Overall) - RW/C Paul Miller. 15 years old. Another good player. Good physical, good mental, decent, but not great, technical. He's a physical player (13 strength, 11 Aggression, 14 Hitting). Other than hitting his technical skills do need improvement. If he does improve, I can see him as a 2-3 liner in 2 years.

And that's how the McArdle trade has turned out for me. I guess technically speaking, I need to see who I get in the 4th round next year with the pick I got from Prince Albert for Michael Kaye before I can finalize how well this trade turned out for me (and see how all of the young players develope). All in all, for a player who would be off my team and in the NHL now, I have to say it's turned out well for me. I can honestly see my team being a serious contender in 2 years and remain that way for at least a couple of years, thanks in large part to this trade.

R2 - #35 - G Chris Campbell (Could be #2 goalie for me now. Good attributes all around)
R2 - #39 - RW Brandon Doucet (Aggressive winger. Decent all around.)
R4 - #67 - LD Frank Russell (Fast, aggressive defensman)
R4 - #72 - RD Bryan Dumont ("smooth-skating" defenseman. Aggressive and determined)

R13 - #247 - RW Kyle Drolet
R14 - #267 - RW Tim Cunningham
R15 - #287 - RW Adam MacIntyre

Before the season started, I tried like hell to land one of the best player in the league in a trade with Kelowna, C Zach Hamill. They kept trying to get the rights to my second pick, Luke Taylor, in a package deal with other players and picks. No matter what combination of players and picks I tried to give to Kelowna, they always counter proposed with the right to Luke Taylor. In the end, overall, I think they were just asking too much. He ended up going to Medicine Hat.

In other trades, teams tried to get the right to my 3rd pick, John MacIntyre, as well. Something tells me my top 3 picks will be great, great players.

2006 Roster

Goalies

G Paul Barclay - Decent goalie. Probably will be back up.

G Sam Harris - 16 years old. Might turn out decent, but doesn't look ready for the big show yet.

G Joey Perricone - 19 years old. He's been the starter since I took over and will continue being the starter this year. Decent and solid. Usually has a few really bad games a year, but for the most part, doesn't get killed like some of my other goalies over the last 2 seasons.

Defensemen

LD Dylan Chapman - 19 yo - Doesn't get on the offensive stats board (won't socre and doesn't assist oftan), but he's aggressive and hard hitting. He'll punish you.

LD Chad Gladue - 15 yo - Barely made the squad. Will not play much. Might be regularly swapped with defensemen on contract who are on the Pilot Butte squad.

LD Nick Ross - 17 yo - Good physical and mental. Still needs work on his technical skills.

RD/LD Kevin Reinholt - 19 yo - Decent all around defenseman.

RD/LD Yakov Seleznev - 17 yo (FGN) - Drafted this year in the Import Draft. A big guy at 6'4" (second tallest to Dylan Champman, 6'5"). Strong, hard hitting and good at the pokecheck. A good defensman.

RD Jock Sutter - 18 yo - Average all around.

RD Taylor Sceinson - 16 yo - Decent physical, good mental, average technical with good slapshot and positioning.

Forwards

LW Kyle Bournazakis - 15 yo - Low physical and moental, average technical with damn good passing and stickhandling. As with Gladue, will probably send down to pilot Butte occasionally.

LW/RW Dwight King - 17 yo - He's becoming a stud. Could still use some improvement on the physical side, but he's a very good defensive forward.

LW/RW Garrett Robinson - 18 yo - Average all around, but did good in camp and in the exhibition games

LW/C Dustin Sather - 20 yo (OVR) - Good physical, good mental, average technical.

LW Brendan Sobchuck - 18 yo - Average all around with good determination

C Dustin Boyd - 20 yo (OVR) - Good all round center. Not great at anything, but not below good at anything either.

C Riley Holzapfel - 18 yo - Decent overall. A slightly less talented version of Dustin Boyd.

C/RW Michael Kay - 18 yo - (Note: Not to be confused with Michael Kaye), Good physical, good mental, decent technicals.

C Tom Lemay - 16 yo - Decent overall, but is bad on faceoffs. Will try to train him for a wing position.

C Ryan McDonald - 18 yo - Good overall. Another slightly less talented version of Dustin Boyd

C Aleksandr Romanovsky - 19 yo (FGN) - decent physical and mentals, good tehcnials with a few pretty good (Pokecheck 18, Faceoffs 15, Deflections 14)

RW/C Dan Gendur - 19 yo - Decent overall

RW/LW Shane Gimas - 19 yo - Defensive forward, moderately aggressive.

RW/LW Craig Jones - 16 yo - This guy is strange. He's got really physical attributes, REALLY good mental attributes....and then he has a few very high technical attributes (Pokecheck 14, Positioning 13, Stickhandling 20 !!) and then the rest of his technical skills are rated between 3 to 6. 3 to 6? Yup, 3-6. But, he's been doing good. Good exhibitions, good camp. Time will tell how he develops.

RW Mitrch Kelly - 17 yo - decent physical and mentals, average technicals. Good on the faceoff. Maybe will try to teach C.

Lose a few more than won, but still have a .480 record and are 8 points ahead of 5th place Brandon. Doesn't look like he have a chance at winning the division or 2nd place, but we do have the division's best PP% and PK%. If we keep up the good special teams, that could be the deciding factor for making the playoffs.

Disaster Strikes

Joey Perricone will be out for 2 months after suffering a dislocated shoulder on March 4th. This means 1) Paul Barclay, an inconsistent and unreliable goalie, will have to carry the weight, mainly because 2) Sam Harris is not good. He's just nto ready and was getting destroyed in the preseason. And one last thing, I have no rights to any goalies worth a damn. Except the one I drafted last year, but that doesn't matter since I can't sign him yet.

And so our season practically ends.

WHL 2007 Bantam Draft

Round 1, Pick 9 - C/LW Luke Pollard
He's a great skater. 20 Acceleration, 16 Speed, 15 Balance. He's also strong (13 Str) and aggressive (14). Most of the rest of his mentals range from 12-14. Influence is only 4, so he'll never be a captian. On the technical side, he's great at faceoffs (16) and the rest range 7-11. He's not weak in any one area.

Because he's strong (13) and good at deflections (11), he could end up being a really good center that sits in front of the opponent goalie to screen him and deflect shots in.

A couple of other Forwards looked a bit better, but were more up and down. Had a weakness or two that I didn't like. Pollard was the most well rounded of the top forwards left.

Round 2, Pick 9 - C/RW Jean-Philippe Donnelly
Physically good. Speed (10) is a little low, but everything else is 13-15. Not very aggressive (4), but he's got a good work rate (12) and determination (11). Also good teamwork (15).

Technically sound. He looks to be a good defensive player. Pokecheck (13), Checking (14), Positioning (13). Everything else is 8-11.

Round 2, Pick 17 - C Matt York
With a pick I got from a trade, I decided to take a bit of a gamble. Matt York was not ranked by the ISS, but his attributes look good. He's not aggressive (5), but he's got a good work rate (15) and decent bravery (12). Other mentals are 7-10.

Technically he's pretty good. Good faceoffs (14) and positioning (13). The rest are 8-11, but only two attributes (slapshot and hitting) are 8, the rest are 10-11.

Round 3, Pick 9 - LD Adam Ellis
Good skater (Agility 20, Balance 16). He's aggressive (16) and has very good teamwork (19).

For defensive attributes, he's good. Checking 12, Hitting 15 and Pokecheck 13. He won't be much help on the offensive side, though.

Round 4, Pick 9 - LW Sam Manning
Very high Work Rate (20) and good Determination (12). Well rounded technically (9-11). Described by my scouts as an aggressive winger and a poor man's Vladimir Orszagh

Round 4, Pick 17 - G Greg Henry
Good work rate (13) and determination (14). Technically good goalie skills (7-11, the 7's are Passing and Pokecheck. The rest are 10+). Described as a small goalie and a poor man's Jani Hurme.

Round 5, Pick 9 - RW Bob Boyce
A good, well rounded winger who can pass (16). Low work rate (5) worries me, though.

Round 6, Pick 9 - RW Dave Patterson
An aggressive winger. A poor man's Niklas Sundstrom, but more offense-oriented.

Round 7, Pick 9 - LD Connor Walsh
Smooth skating defensive. He's also strong (20) and aggressive (15). He'll hurt people. Described as a poor man's Steve Staios.

Round 8, Pick 9 - RW/LW Bryce Stacey
Strong (14) and aggressive (15). He looks like he could become a good defensive winger.

Round 9, Pick 9 - RW Tim Wilson
A well rounded depth player.

Round 10, Pick 9 - C/RW Shane Gordon

Round 11, Pick 9 - RW Nick Thomson
Strong winger. Could develop into a key player.

Round 12, Pick 9 - RW/C Jason Stevens

Round 13, Pick 9 - RW Jesse Aitken

Round 14, Pick 9 - C/RW Mike King

Round 15, Pick 9 - RD/LD Mike Coughlin

Early Offseason News

June 8, 2007
Shane Gimas hasn't done much for me. I would have been happy to haveh him as a 3rd liner for one more year, but several teams showed some interest in him. I got several offers for other, similar players. But then Kelowna came in with an offer for a draft pick, next year's 4th round pick. I decided to take a stab at it, and countered with their 4th round pick for the 2009 season as well. They took it.

Moose Jaw gives up: RW/LW Shane Gimas
Kelowna gives up: 2008 4th round pick, 2009 4th round pick

June 24, 2007
Dwight King was selected by Colorado in the 1st round of the NHL Draft (17th pick).
Petr Dvorak (just signed goalie from Russia) was taken in the 6th round by St. Louis (178 overall)

More Offseason Moves

Trade - July 19th, 2007
Moose Jaw gives up: LW/RW Garrett Robinson (Last year: 68 GP, 28 PTS, 7.32 AvR), 2008 7th Round Pick
Lethbridge gives up: Rights to RW Jean-Philippe McCann

McCann looks like he could be a very sloid RW. High Work Rate (15) and Determination (16). His technicals are 7-11 (most are 8), which are pretty close to Robinson's attributes. McCann's high work rate, though, tells me he will improve on them. I thought he was well worth the 7th round pick, and it helps me unload some unwanted dead weight.

Campbell a no-go
Chris Campbell, a goalie I drafted in Round 2 of last year's draft, is refusing to sign with me. He seems determined to play college hockey. I guess I'll try again next year. Good thing I signed Petr Dvorak.

Joe Moore retires
My head scout decided to retire after 1 year with me. I searched for a new head scout and found Dan Clarke (Judge Ability: 13, Judge Potential: 14)

WHL 2007-2008 Preview

In the WHL Preivew, the media has placed me 4th in the league, which is nice. It's the highest I've been placed. The chalk it up to most of my stars returning plus having several of the top picks from last year coming in. I really outdid myself with last year's draft as 4 of them are looking like they will be 1st and 2nd liners right away.

The media picked Dwight King as my Team MVP and my Key New Face as Luke Taylor.

Wolski got picked up by Colorado in the 1st round of the 2004 draft but they traded him to Columbus in 2006. He has a 3 year, $3.7 million deal, with a bunch of incentives as well, with Columbus.

Now that the NHL teams have figured out what they are doing with a few of the players they've taken from me (the life of a WHL manager), I can introduce my team to you.

Goalies

Petr Dvorak - 18 years old - FGN (Czech)
Decent mental ratings. Is extremely agile (20) and is very sound technically. Good positioning (15) and rebound control (14). He'll probably get the most starts.

Joey Perricone - 20 years old - OVR
Has been my starting goalie for most of his career here, mostly due to the lack of quality goalies I've been able to get. Not very good physically, mentally ok, but technically average.

Paul Barclay - 18 years old
Decent results last year. 14-18-2 Record, GAA 3.54 and SV% 0.877. He'll stay on my regular squad so he gets the practice he'll need if he's going to be my #2 goalie next season when Perricone moves on.

Defensemen

LD Craig McGuire - 15 years old
7th Round pick last year. Physically good, Aggressive (14), Brave (14) and very determined (18). Technically sound, with good Passing (12) and Hitting (13). A very good, young player.

LD Nick Ross - 18 years old
All arouind average player. Good mental attributes. Has been good enough to start in previous seasons, but with the rush of great, young defensive talent I have gotten, he gets bumped to backup. But I am very hapopy I have a reliable guy here to come in when a defenseman will need a game off.

LD Kallen Savoy - 18 years old
The last spot for LD on the starting roster came down to Savoy and Ross, and Savoy did better in training camp and in the exhibition games. More offensive in technical talent than Ross. He's also better physically, but about even with Ross mentally.

LD Luke Taylor - 16 years old
So many teams tried to sneak the rights to this player in trade talks with me. I never bit and for good reason. He could develop into the best defenseman in the league. All physicals are 14-16. Great teamwork (18) and very hard working (19), not to mention Brave (16). Can check (14), hit (13) and hase a good pokecheck (14). He could use some work offensively, which will keep him off my Power Play Lines (Savoy and McGuire on the LDs on them). I may throw him on my PP lines a game here and there to see how he does.

RD Travis Ernhardt - 17 years old
Good checking (13) and positioning (13). Good physically and average mentally.

RD Lucas Folk - 19 years old
Another player who has started many games but gets bumped for younger, better players. Not a fast skater, but hard working (12) and determined (17). Can check very well (15) and can hit (11). But the rest of his technicals are low.

RD John MacIntyre - 16 years old
Another player from last year's draft (2nd round). Could use a little work on his skating. but he's very fast (19) good stamina (17) and is strong (15). Except for influence (4 - he'll never be captain), his mentals are very good. Technically he's a bit above average (9-12). He's another player some teams tried to get from me.

Scott Maetche - 17 years old
Good physcially, but the rest average. Decent for me last year, but I don't hold much hope for him. He has done better than Folk in training camp and exhibition, but if he slips up, I'll put Folk in there quickly.

Forwards

LW Chad Barrett - 16 years old
Physically good, aggressive (14), determined (18) and hard working (18). Technically below average. Hoping that they will raise quickly based on his hard working and determination.

LW Kyle Bournazakis - 16 years old
Not good physically, mentals are low but technicals are very good. He can pass (15) and has very good stickhandling (16).

LW/RW Dwight King - 18 years old
Stud. Could use work on his skating, but he's a hard hitting (18) defensive left winger (Pokecheck 17) In seasons 2005 and 2006, put up a combined 96 points. Already has 3 points this season, so he needs one more for 100. And he still has 2 more years of eligability left.

LW Jason Kress - 16 years old
Round 4 pick last year. A great skater, but not very strong (6). He's definately a finesse player. He's hard working (16) and determined (18). His technicals are just average though.

LW Brendan Sobchuck - 19 years old
Just an average all around player.

C Tanner Hogberg - 17 years old
Great skater. Good teamwork (15) but the rest of mentals are average. Also average technicals

C Riley Holzapfel - 19 years old
Drafted by the Canucks in the NHL Draft in 2006. Good physcals, decent mentals. His technicals are above average (10-13). He's one of those players are puts up far better numbers than his attributes would suggest. Good enough for me.

C/RW Michael Kay - 19 years old
Slightly abover average overall. A decent 2-way center

C Adam Low - 17 years old
Up and down physically, mentally and technically. Seems to put up good numbers so we'll see how he plays out.

C Ryan McDonald - 19 years old
Decent skater, average mentally. Technically average, but has good scoring attributes.

C Aleksandr Romanovsky - 20 years old (FGN)
Average physically and mentally, however, has great technical talent. Is a very good defensive center (Pokecheck 20, Checking 12, Hitting 11). Currently signed to Edmonton, but they've let us keep him for 1 more year.

C/RW Colin Swanson - 16 years old
Stud. #1 Overall pick from the 2006 draft. A strong (14), aggressive (14) center that can sit in front of a goalie, fight off the defenders and deflect (14) pucks into the net. Won't lose faceoffs (19). He can also do more than just sit in front of a goalie. Good stickhandling (13), slapshot (12), wristshot (14) and passing (14). And he's only 16 years old.

RW/C Dan Gendur - 20 years old (OVR)
Average overall player. Puts up ok numbers. I'm very weak at right wing this year.

RW Spencer Hoehn - 18 years old
Good physically, mentals and technicals are slightly below average

RW Mitrch Kelly - 18 years old
Very good physically, good mentals and average technicals.

RW/C Paul Miller - 16 years old
Round 6 2006 pick. Good physically, but not very agile (6). Average mentals and technicals.

Well........

I guess this dynasty comes to a sudden halt indefinately. I don't know why it took me so long to do it, but tonight I finally patched my game to version 2.1.3 (I've been playing on version 2.0.2, a couple of versions old).

I load up the game, load my save game.....says it can't load games that old and the game is closing. And, I don't think I can revert back to the old state.

So that's that. It was a good run....or it was becoming so.

Time to start over I suppose. :(

But, with the numermous bug fixes and tweaks, it's all for the better I guess. If I played on the old version, if I could, I'd be playing on an essentially buggy version. I was only a few years into this so it's not like I lost a 15 year long career or something. I learned a lot by doing this dynasty so I now take my knowledge gained and start up a real dynasty.

I think I'm going to take a step down (is it really a step down?) and coach one of the AAL3 or AAL4 teams. Then try to get a job in the CHL, and then to the NHL. I don't really follow hockey that far down, so I don't really know if a CHL job is more prestigous than an AAL4 job.
