The first (and last) time I drank a Heineken was in Canada. Bought some huge ass silver can that was like the equivalent of 3 1/2 normal sized beers (The Beer Store in Windsor has all sorts of huge ass cans, that's what we thought they were all like at first in Canada). Anyways, I started to drink it and immediately felt like it was settling in my throat and not in my stomach. Couldn't finish it before I threw up. Poured the rest out.

Chimay is a great beer. A dangerous beer. While living in Belgium, I had spent many nights drinking Chimay Blue. Good nights, painful mornings. Hoegarden is a fantastic beer for a hot summer afternoon. Cold. Crisp. Very refreshing.
I'm also a big fan of Grimbergen, Leffe (Blonde and Brune), and Duvel.

While slightly off topic, one of the best mixed drinks I've ever had was called a "Tatanka." It's bison (or bison grass) vodka and apple juice. It's amazing. It tastes like liquid apple pie: sweet and spicey at the same time. I have tried, without any success, to buy a bottle of bison vodka. I think the main brand (all of them?) is Polish.

I can get Yuengling pretty much anywhere in Jacksonville. Do you all have those around the World clubs in your local bars, whereby you get a card and if you drink every type of beer in the joint you get a free T-shirt or some crummy prize like that. A lot of the Ft. Benning area bars had that when i was in the Army there.

Belgium is a great place for beer. The local bars (can't really call 'em pubs) are all incredibly cheap. Lady H_B lived two doors down for a place simply called "Beermania". It had hundreds of Belgian beers. There was another bar we used to hit we simply called "The Beer Place." It had over 200 Belgian beers, each with their own glass. A small place, but perfect for sampling the beers.
A funny thing about Stella Artois is that it's basically like the "Budweiser" of Belgian beers. It's a step up from "Maes" and "Jupiler", but a small step. It's not very highly regarded at all. In fact, they tried selling it in England for a while as a cheap, Belgium beer. Its sales were horrible. There's plenty of cheap beer in England. So the Stella folks simply doubled the price, marketed it as a high class, foreign import and sales went through the roof. The power of advertising...
