View Full Version : SimGolf Tour

While playing simgolf recently, I remembered about the league wig ran about this time last year. After doing a search of the forums, I saw and remember the problem he ran into. The problem was how to get the same golfers in each time so all FOFC golfers would be in each tournament. After experimenting with the pro golfer file I realized there is no set amount of golfers needed. If there is less the game just copies a golfer to fill in the spots. I will only put 35 golfers in the file so every golfer will be in every event. Seeing that I have some free time I have decided to try to run a 16 tournament tour.

Player Ratings:
In the original the player cap was 480 points and it seemed to be good so I will stay with that to start. This allows for varied golfers and hopefully a competitive field.

Tournaments:
I propose a 16 tournament schedule with every 4th being a major. A regular tournament will be 2 rounds with no cut. A major will be 4 rounds and there will be a cut after 2 rounds. (I’m not sure about a cut, its open for debate.)

Tournament Prizes:
Instead of going with the designed simgolf payouts, I’m thinking about using a point system. With the top half getting points decreasing in value from 1st on down. Also for scoring low round of the day you get a bonus point. Majors would be worth double the points. Who ever has the most points at the end of the 16 tournaments will be the tour champion.

Choosing Courses:
I’m not sure exactly how to decide what courses to play on and when. I figure no course should be played on more than once a season so will need 16 courses. If anyone has any ideas on how or what courses to choose, let me know? My only idea is the a winner of a regular tournament get to choose a course for a future regular tournament.

Major Courses:
I am thinking about following the PGA Tour and a set course for the FOFC Masters. Then rotating courses for British and US Opens . Maybe even allow the defending champion to pick were the event will be held the following year. The final major, the Players Championship, will be decided by a vote each year. In the first year, I figure will choose all major courses by a vote.

Sim Schedule:
I figure I can get at least 1-2 tournaments a week if not more. This all depends on my schedule and free time.

Post your golfers in this format: (max of 480 points)

The inaugural tournament in the SimGolf Tour will be held at scenic El Burro in Spain. The relatively easy Burro is a par 71 and should provide some low scoring rounds.

After 9 holes Ram and The Pistol are tied for the lead at -6. Eight others are at/or under par including AJ(-4) and Daedalus(-3). Slacker(+9), Ty Whitt(+10), and John Galt(+19) are the only ones without a real chance to get to even par.

With 5 holes to go it is down to a 2-man race between Daedalus and AJ as Ram and The Pistol have fallen apart.

Hackman is at +7.

Vince

+7?!!? Preposterous! We'll have to hit the driving range a little more before the next event.

ram
07-13-2005, 08:42 PM
With only 3 holes to play, Rob is trying to mount a challenge to AJ(-5) as he eagled to move to -3. Daedalus has fallen with a bogey followed by a double bogey.

ram
07-13-2005, 09:01 PM
In an unexpected finish we wound up with a 3-way tie for first at 3 under. AJ had back to back bogeys opening the door for Daedalus and Rob. All but John's round are below as he finished at +30.

http://img315.imageshack.us/img315/7006/b25uo.th.jpg (http://img315.imageshack.us/my.php?image=b25uo.jpg)

The course played much harder than I thought it would. When I ran a test on the course earlier this week almost 2/3 of the players were under par and I think I few were almost 10 under. I guess the few changes I made had more of an impact than I expected. The final round at El Burro will be Friday night at 9 pm est.

If anyone has any questions or comments about the presentation of the round let me know. Also we need to work out a way to settle ties.

I don't know if it's having a significant effect on the scores, but I think WRRCC is friendlier to shorter hitters than El Burro -- at least, my (possibly muddled) recollection is that there were a couple of holes I had trouble reaching with my saved Mr. Wednesday golfer (which is not necessarily the same as my entry) when I played it. In contrast, I'm pretty sure I can reach everything on WRRCC except #4 in regulation, and that's only because #4 is explicitly designed to play longer than its yardage, and they won't let me enforce using it as a par 5 when I save it as championship (it automatically gets converted to par 4).

Speaking of which, WRRCC should play as par 71 for championship play for that reason.

Rolin leads David and the Pistol by 1 after the 1st Round.

*I do not have every golfer's scorecard. When I realized I need a few scorecards, the golfers had already completed their rounds and I could not get their scorecard.

The 2nd round will be Thursday night.

Wow. Three 7's to finish the round. Ouch.

I think I'm going to stick with my golfer for at least a few more tourneys - it is fun routing for the underdog.

I got crushed on hole 13 whatever that was. Took a 6 and almost everyone on the board ahead of me had a 3!

It does to play to a par 71, but before starting the championship it says par 72 so I did not realize until the end of the round.

Took a 6 and almost everyone on the board ahead of me had a 3!13 is a dogleg left with a tee shot across the river and a tricky landing area that starts out flat and slopes away. I've seen a long hitter try to cut off the dogleg and get in a lot of trouble -- it was in a match against me and up until that point, I was thinking he might challenge the course record of 52. Most likely, your tee shot went into the trees and then you missed the green left and went down the hill in the rough.

That's probably what I get for being long. :D

Following this is making me want to fire up Sim Golf again. I can't recall how many times I've fired it up, put it away, repeat. I wish there was a followup vesrion that improved the game a bit.

Through 3 holes, Rolin Bya(-9) has increased his lead to 2 shots over the Pistol. David Gonzalez has dropped a shot and Gary Playa is lurking only 4 shots back.

Rob Nielsen has started with 4 straight birdies to move to -6.
Gary Playa nails another birdie to move to -6.
Rolin bogeys to drop back to -8.

Thru 6 holes, Rolin(-10) has a 1 shot lead over Pistol and Gary Playa is only 3 shots back. After 5 birdies to start his round, Rob has back to back bogeys to fall to -5.

For vexroid, Vex is +2 for the day and +5 overall.

After 9 holes for Gary Golf we have the makings of an interesting finish.
Rolin(-11) leads by 1 shot over Gary Playa. Gary is -7 on the day through 11 holes. David Gonzalez is 3 shots back and Rob is 4 shots back.

Rolin hits one into the drink and double bogeys the 13th. Rolin still holds a 2 shot lead over Gary Playa with 5 holes to play.

I ran into a serious problem. For some reason no one would tee off from 18. I did not realize until real late in the round and could not find a fix for this. I will have to replay the round, but that probably won't be until sometime this weekend. I'm really sorry, and hopefully the next time I try not everybody gets stuck on 18.

I assure you, I can't remember ever encountering a similar problem when I've played on the course, although I mostly play (matches and tournaments) in game mode rather than championship mode.

I don't know what caused this as it did not happen in the 1st round. Also the first few groups to play 18 had actually played the hole. When I was checking some scorecards, I realized a few groups had about 9 holes left when everyone else only had 3. When I swung over to 18 I saw a bunch of golfers and no one was teeing off.

Probably Roy McAvoy was playing the 18th hole and kept hitting the ball in the water. Rather than taking a drop and accepting his medicine, he repeatedly tried to hit the green ... backing up play for hours.

Suprisingly Renee Russo still went home with him.

Sorry for the delay, but I have finally replayed the 2nd round. We have a tie between Rob Nielsen and AJ Tucker at -6. A lot of the leaders had horrible rounds and fell out of contention fast. If anyone has any ideas on how to break the tie post them. For now I will hold off on posting the scorecards until we figure out how to break the tie.

The only idea I can come up with, is for someone to pick a random hole number and whoever scored lower on that hole wins. Does anybody have better ideas.

Alternatively, if you can play with just those two players, you could let them start playing from (wherever) and do a sudden death that way.

So I started playing SimGolf again.

Looks like we missed the 2006 rehash. Oh well.

dola -

So, not that this is a long shot or anything, but does anyone happen to have the two course files I submitted to wig three years ago? I'm sure somebody's been saving them. :(
