Go to a drink vending machine. Look at the choices.

See a drink with a white cap. See a drink with a brightly colored cap.

Which do you buy?

You buy the one with the brightly colored cap because it signifies a contest or promotion.

Plain white caps aren't used when soft drink companies are running a promotion.

I don't really... I buy whatever drink I want. But I usually drink water anyway.

What if it's the machine that throws the cup down and fluid starts shooting into the cup?

What if the brightly colored cap is so bright it's white?

I've noticed this, but it never affects my choice.

I try to avoid the drinks with black caps. Does that make me racist?

You're crazy. Nobody notices cap color.

Now, if you look under the cap and the little plastic thingy is grey instead of white, hot damn, now you've got a contest.

Of course if the color were pink, I'm guessing only women would buy it. I wonder why they don't use pink on Diet Coke?

I admit to this.

I've never noticed cap color. Ever. In fact, at a vending machine, you can't even see the bottle until it comes out.

EDIT: Sorry, but your post sounded so lawyer-esque, kinda like McCoy on Law & Order... *dah dah*... that I had to respond in kind.

Not any of the ones I've seen. The slide door ones at the check-out counters at stores, sure, but the regular vending machines...none that I've seen/used.

They probably haven't brought them down there because they aren't hurricane proof :p

I have to say, if I walk into a 7-11 and they have bottles of the same pop that I want to buy, and some have white caps and others have coloured caps, I do buy the coloured capped bottle, because of the contest...

Nah, they're afraid of lawsuits from Florida State players. They're afraid the players will be used to getting things for free and since they aren't very smart will try to reach in and grab a drink, thus breaking their fingers.

I also bet you don't even look to see what the contest is.

Heh...nope, not really...just the chance to win stuff is good enough...

My luck, the one time I win it will be for some hillary duff CD or something.

I guess this snazzy vending machine technology hasn't reached Kansas yet either because I have no idea what any of you are talking about. None of that see-thru mumbo jumbo: you can't see the cap until the bottle drops.

I can only think of 3 places where there are vending machines that I regularly see. One is in this building where I work, one is Wal-Mart, and the other is where my daughter has gymnastics. They're all the old style, even though a couple of them look pretty new.

I actually did avoid buying a diet-coke the other day b/c it had a green cap and I thought it meant it was that yucky lime diet coke crap. After reading this thread, I went back and checked and sure enough the green cap means a game cap ... not lime. Man, I could have won a new car or something.

Ksyrup - I think you should change your sig to the following:

Don't it make you wonder what came first - the insatiable hunger or unquenchable thirst?

Does it matter at all once you check...under the bottlecap?

The engineering building at KU has some of the (now outdated, I guess) can and 20 oz bottle dispensers. But they also have one of those coffee machines like in T2 with the playing cards ("Hey, I got a full house. Must be my lucky day") and a "food" vending machine with stuff like sandwiches of an indeterminate age.

UofI had this cool vending machine where a mini-platform would go up or down depending on where the pop was, and the bottle would get plopped onto the platform, then the platform would bring it to the bottom and you could grab it. If it didn't cost a dollar to see it everytime I coulda sat there for hours.

Fixed it (for sensitivity reasons...)
