Out of curiousity, would anyone mind posting the new Gammons article ? I'm pretty close to giving in on insider- they have three authors (Neyer, Gammons, and some of the BA stuff) that I like, a lot.

Memorable Deadline and In-Season Deals, 1985-2000
1985: Cubs trade Bill Buckner to Boston for Dennis Eckersley
1985: Cubs trade Joe Carter, Mel Hall, Don Schulze and Darryl Banks to Cleveland for Rick Sutcliffe, Ron Hassey and George Frazier

Actually the Cubs acquired Eckersley and Sutcliffe in 1984, the year they won the division title.

SO the Indians were sliding, culminating in a sweep by the D-Rays. Since then, they've won 6 out of 7 against the D-Rays, Orioles, and Rangers, and suddenly they're in the same league as the A's and Yankees? I guess stranger things have happened, but I'm not betting on them, not on the "strength" of the current 7-game run against two of the worst AL teams and another that's in the running, if you count the past two months or so.

They're an underrated team. Of course 14 of the remaining games this season are against TB and KC, the league's two worst teams, but that's no fault of Cleveland's. Olney's point is not to overlook them. The Indians were not sliding heading into that Rays sweep in Cleveland, rather the contrary: they won all six games of a roadtrip to DET and KC. They're hot.

I gotta be honest. I don't like the precedent this thread sets...

EDIT: To elucidate, I know people have posted stuff from paysites before, but something just doesn't seem right about requesting that someone do it, especially from a major site like ESPN.

I agree. I've been on several forums that have had issues caused by premium information being shared. Not sure we're truly at risk, but it still doesn't feel right. Perhaps responding via PM or private e-mail would have been a wiser course.

except that it's nowhere near the first time ESPN Insider articles are posted or requested.

unless, by precedent, you mean singling out certain people as part of your moderation. even then, not sure that it would be a first...

:p

well, looks my work here is done for a while...

no fair elucidating before I can post my whitty retort.

except that it's nowhere near the first time ESPN Insider articles are posted or requested.Well, it is the first time I've noticed it--and I only noticed it this time because someone PM'ed me and told me. I suspect that I open far less threads than most people think I do.

Sorry about that.. Didn't mean to stir up any trouble.

Sorry about that.. Didn't mean to stir up any trouble. No biggie. I didn't get that vibe at all. Like I said, it's just that when this thread was pointed out to me, I realized that it probably wasn't a good thing.

so can we setup a thread asking for people to mention what paysites they are a part of to hookup people with information with people looking for information? or would that too not seem right? curious...

LOL, how is this *ANY* different from requesting out in the public?

Same here. I won't be doing that sort of thing again.

When you really think about it, it's not right to do (request pay site stuff). To me its no different then "Hey, can someone send me a copy of the newest Madden on DVD?"

They pale in comparison. It was a one time thing and a mistake.

Oh no, I'm not blaming you at all, heck I used to post insider articles for guys on here before. Never really thought of it.

You're right in that the monetary value loss pales in comparison, but still the same general concept.

Yes, the concept is the same which is why I won't be doing that anymore now that I've given it some thought.

This has been kind of a bizarre thread. I posted a requested article, (I still basically feel like this is the equivalent of leaving the Sports section out in the breakroom when you're done with it, but I yield to mod discretion on this sort of thing obviously) and then three weeks or so after I posted some guy posts to correct something in the body of the insider article (just a little odd), another week passes and someone bumps it to request another article, then there's some minor controversy and the content is deleted. It just struck me as a funny way for things to play out...
