View Full Version : Tecmo Bowl / Tecmo Super Bowl--Who's left?

Jerry Rice has announced that he will retire after this year.

After Jerry leaves, who will be left in the league from the original Tecmo Bowl? What about from Tecmo Super Bowl?

Is Sean Landetta still punting? (he was in the original). Morten Andersen is still kicking, I think (he was not in the original, but was in TSB).

Anyone else?

Last I heard... Landeta was being looked at to punt for the Eagles, while Dirk Johnson was injured.

There are some TSB players still kicking around, including Jon Carney and Deion Sanders. There's also a few guys who aren't on a team but aren't technically retired, like Jeff George and Vinny Testaverde.

Here is the TSB list i had last year:

Gary Anderson K - Titans
Morten Andersen K Vikings
Bryan Barker P Packers
Tim Brown WR Buccaneers
John Carney K Saints
Steve Christie K - Giants
Jeff Feagles P Giants
Rich Gannon QB Raiders
Sean Landeta P Rams
Rodney Peete QB Panthers
Ricky Proehl WR Panthers
Jerry Rice WR Seahawks
Deion Sanders DB Ravens
Junior Seau OLB Dolphins
Emmitt Smith RB Cardinals
Vinny Testaverde QB Cowboys
Tom Tupa P Redskins

so i think we're down to...

?? Bryan Barker P Packers
John Carney K Saints
?? Ricky Proehl WR Panthers
Jerry Rice WR Broncos
Deion Sanders DB Ravens
Junior Seau OLB Dolphins
?? Tom Tupa P Redskins

And im not sure about virtually every kicker...

No clue about the original Tecmo Bowl, but Jerry has to be one of maybe 2-3 guys maximum.

On your "think we're down to" list, I think that Jerry Rice and Landetta (if he is still playing) are the only two left.

I'm about 99% positive Deion resigned with Baltimore.

Agreed. I tried to make that clear with my "no clue about the original" statement at the bottom of my message. I'm a TSB expert, but I can claim no great memory of the rosters of the original Tecmo Bowl.

I thought Proehl was still playing.Last I heard he was thinking it over... not sure if he's re-signed or not.

I think Tim Brown, Emmitt Smith, and Rodney Peete are the only official retirements from players on that list. The rest are probably just hanging around - waiting, waiting.

http://www.sportplanet.com/tsb/RICE.gif September 7, 2005: The Last One?

It looked like Jerry Rice would be the one, and perhaps he still will be, but as of Monday he officially relinquished control of deciding the age-old question: "Who will be the last Tecmo Bowl player remaining in the National Football League?" There had been only a handful of candidates on the table for a number of years, including such notable mainstays as Lee Johnson, former punter for the Cleveland Browns, and Rice's one-time teammate, Tim Brown.

http://www.sportplanet.com/tsb/tecmo_bowl.jpg

But in the end, it all happened rather quickly:

July 18, 2005 - Tim Brown signs a one-day contract to retire as an Oakland Raider
August 23, 2005 - Sean Landeta, seemingly out of the running, is signed by the Eagles
September 3, 2005 - Eagles activate Dirk Johnson and release Landeta
September 5, 2005 - Jerry Rice announces his retirement from the NFL

So Jerry wins right? Not so fast. The Eagles picked up Landeta because their starting punter, Dirk Johnson, had undergone surgery for a hernia and was a question mark for the regular season. When it became clear that Johnson would be able to play, Landeta was released. However, might another NFL team find themselves in a situation this year (or next...) where they could use the services of the NFL's all-time leading punter? A roughing the kicker here or a strained hamstring there could strip Mr. Rice of the one record Randy Moss can't audaciously claim he will take. Jerry will undoubtedly suffer through many a sleepless night until his claim to the title can finally be sealed, but...at least for now...he is offically pencilled in the books as The Last Tecmo Bowl Player in the NFL.

He sure did have plenty of 32 yard punts toward the end of the year for the Eagles.

Dola -

And he did. Including 6 punts against Washington in week 17.

The book has re-opened! John Carney signs with the Saints in an effort to not let the Tecmo Super Bowl legacy die.
