<!--endclickprintexclude--> NEW YORK (AP) -- Time to face the facts: Dave Chappelle's hit Comedy Central series isn't coming back, says one of its stars.

" 'Chappelle's Show' is over, man. Done," comic Charlie Murphy told TV Guide. "It took me a long time to be able to say those words, but I can say it pretty easy now, because it's the truth."

Chappelle's sudden "spiritual retreat" to South Africa on the eve of his show's third season has left the series in limbo since May. About half of a new season had been filmed before Chappelle left, Murphy said.

"I'm disappointed it ended the way it did, but I'm not angry with anybody," he said. " 'Chappelle's Show' was like the Tupac of TV shows. It came out, it got everybody's attention, it was a bright shining star, but it burned out and for some strange reason, it burned out quick."

Comedy Central has always said the door is open for Chappelle to return, spokeswoman Aileen Budow said Wednesday.

Network chief Doug Herzog met with Chappelle on June 3, but that has been their last communication, she said.

Murphy, the older brother of comic Eddie Murphy, said his two seasons with Chappelle made him a star.

"Now I can go out and do stand-up," he said. "I'm getting movie offers. It's off the hook. Me getting to the next level or whatever's going to happen is going to come from the next things I do, but 'Chappelle's Show' served its purpose and I'll always be grateful."

Charlie Murphy does know that he was part of the joke, right?

I can see where Chapelle is coming from. Before he was free just to screw around and make jokes and everybody really dug it. Now he is being offered millions of dollars to be funny. That's a whole different ballgame and a lot of pressure. I think this is the reason that most comics are the funniest before their movie careers begin.

Maybe he does comedy for the comedy and not for the money.

That's a shame, one of the few shows in the past few years where freinds and I quote characters from the show.

I thought I was one of the only people that couldn't stand this show. Looks like from this thread I wasn't totally alone.

I'm not going to say that Chapelle's not funny. There are way to many people who love him to prove that's not true. I'll just say I don't get it.

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Dave Chappelle says in a new interview that he had several reasons for walking away from his cult-fave "Chappelle's Show" -- and a deal worth more than $50 million.

His decision to leave the Comedy Central series last May led fans and industry executives to question his motives, and his sanity.

But in a 10-page spread in the Esquire magazine arriving Saturday, he says he closed "Chappelle" for reasons cultural, professional and personal.

Culturally: "The bottom line was, white people own everything, and where can a black person go and be himself or say something that's familiar to him and not have to explain or apologize?"

Professionally: "I felt like I was really pressured to settle for something that I didn't necessarily feel like I wanted."

Personally: "The thing about show business is that, in a way, it forces dysfunctional relationships in people."

Chappelle tells the magazine that putting on "Chappelle's Show" was the best television experience he ever had. He plans to continue telling jokes and entertaining audiences, he says, so long as he can retain a degree of personal and creative freedom.

ATTENTION WHITE PEOPLE: This message is meant for the suits at Comedy Central. It is not directed towards your common white people-the people that bought all of the dave chappelle DVD's. DO NOT BE OFFENDED!

Carry on :)

Isnt this show coming back on the air for a new season now? So he did give in to the white people finally?

I think they are showing the episodes that they hadn't shown yet. Not actually reairing the actual show. But I dunno, I never watched it. I just heard something passing about them showing some lost episodes or whatever.

Oh, i guess that makes sense. Comedy Central is just pubbing the hell out of this new "Season 3" saying "hes back" and all that...oh well, there my hopes go again

I don't know if Dave's
silence here today...

is right or wrong;
I'm not a judge or jury.

But I can tell you this:

he won't sell
anybody out...

to buy his future !

And that, my friends,
is called integrity.

That's called courage.

Now that's the stuff
leaders should be made of.

Hooha!

Its a way for Comedy Central to get back at Dave. The "new" season 3 is shit they cut from season 1 and 2. The will air some new stuff, that was originally shot for Season 3; but the skits are supposed to be so bad, its part of the reason why Chappelle canned the show.

As soon as I read that Dave has signed a deal to move his show to BET, I'll stop saying he's full of crap. Until then, he's full of crap.

This was the first show that made me feel like maybe I was getting too old, maybe I just didn't understand contemporary humor anymore. People were telling me how brililant the "race draft" bit was, and then it just went on, and on, and on, and I wasn't sure what I supossed to be laughing at, and why.
