Anyone know of a program or how to view .exe or .dll files to see exactly what the prompts are doing for a program?

You need a debugger.

What do you hope to see/do?

Lines in the exe or dll where it is looking for certain information. I am trying to run a program that keeps crashing at a certain point, and I think it is looking for infor that I do not have, either in the correct directory/folder or format, and I have tried everything, so I just want to see where/what I need to do to make it work.

If you don't understand x86 assembly intimately, you are in WAY over your head.
Edit: Or to put it another way, if you have to ask the question, the answer will do you no good.

That's what I was thinking when I read the question.
What you are looking to do is totally hardcore.

Ok, thanks, I'll guess I'll take rkmsuf advice, and put this in a body bag.
