I’m With Stupid #116 – The most wonderfullest time of year

The questions were based on the fact that there is not better time of year than right now if you are a sports fan. The wildcard race is full speed ahead, there's talk of hockey again, the preseason nfl games are underway, playoff baseball is fast approaching. Simply bliss. So.... the questions;

#1 – Which player, college or pro, had the worst on-field football injury ever?

Joe Thiesman - 16
Willis McGahee - 3
Bo Jackson - 3
Darryl Stingley - 2
Reggie Brown - 1

Really a runaway here. I have Thiesman rated number one in my book but it's mostly because it is the first major injury that I remember happening. I thought I may see some older names I didn't recognize, but no dice. I was also surprised that Tim Krumrie's "noodle leg" didn't make the list. Well done to those that jotted down the answer that you needed to make it to the final table. Alas, Archer219's memory of Bo Jackson kept him out of the money.

#2 – Who will be the next NFL quarterback selected to the Hall of Fame?

Troy Aikman - 15
Brett Favre - 8
John Elway - 3
Warren Moon - 1
Ken Stabler - 1

This had a little bit of reasoning involved. First, a little bit of football knowledge in both the recent past and present is necessary. Second, you had to know who has a likely chance to get into the hall (sorry Warren and Ken). Then you had to try and decide who stupid thought would be the next person in. Congrats to jebberd and thos Dallas fans.

#3 – Which NHL team will have the best chance of winning the Stanley Cup this year, now that all teams are on an equal footing?

Detroit - 11
Philadelphia - 5
Tampa Bay - 4
Colorado - 2
Pittsburgh - 2
New York Rangers - 1
Chicago - 1
Los Angeles - 1
New Jersey - 1

Ahhh.... here's where overall sports knowledge enters the picture. Sure you know football, baseball and maybe even a little bit of basketball. But do you know the ice? Main ingredient here is the 'even' footing that the NHL is supposedly on. Recent signings could have played into the picture here but stupid doesn't care about reading the liner notes for the NHL. He only knows powerhouses. So Detroit and Philly it is.

#4 – Assuming the Yankees miss the playoffs this year, who will be this years "Mr. October"?

David Ortiz - 9
Albert Pujols - 7
Manny Ramirez - 6
Andruw Jones - 2
Eric Chavez - 1
Boston Red Sox - 1
Vladimir Guerrero - 1
Johnny Damon - 1

The key here is knowing that Mr. Jeter is the true Mr. October. Thus, you had to pick his counterpart. I thought that teams that were playing well and had a chance to make it to playing in October might have a few names show up. No White Sox players made the list though. The memories of last year presented themselves again and big poppi is the man. Albionmoonlight could almost feel the win but he picked the wrong player on the right team.

#5 – Name the best running back in the NFL.

Ladainian Tomlinson - 26
Ahman Green - 1
Jamal Lewis - 1

Who knew? Everyone but me... horrible question and should not have been included.

#6 – How many TD's will Terrell Owens grab this year?

10 - 14
0 - 9
15 - 2
11 - 1
8 - 1
7 - 1

Some jumped on the hopes that TO will not see the turf this year. In the end most went with the fact that TO does need his green (money that is) and he should get double digit TD's again this year. 10 is such a nice round number.

And now on to the important stuff:

The compound fracture, truly one of football's greatest injuries.

Awww, you made me miss Joe Theisman...

Perfect except for the first one. Really never even considered Theismean... i thought McGahee would beat him out for the knee bending backwards vote.

Surprised that nobody mentioned Napoleon McCallum. That was one U. G. L. Y. injury...

It's such an honor to accept this award. Thank-you all for helping me get here, for I couldn't have done it without you. I'd especially like to thank those who also thought that stupid would go for T.O. not getting on the field this season, since zero was the only real nice round number available for this answer.

Great, now I have to come up with questions ;-) Anybody want to send me the spreadsheet in advance?

20 years ago Stingley easily beats out Theisman as the worst injury. In the late 70's it was one of the hot topics of football conversation and whether or not Jack Tatum should be banned. How soon they forget.

I read the SI article Stingly wrote about the injury and his treatment afterwards and even his feelings towards tatum. As I recall to this day Tatum has never even visited the man he turned into a quadraplegic.

Tatum would never survive with today's rules.

I heart whoever said Eric Chavez for Mr. October. I didn't even think of Aikman. Damnit.
