View Full Version : FOF Draft Utility - What would YOU like to see?

Okay, I made a post about this in all the leagues I am involved in and I figure, why not come to the source as well? I know there are a few (actually, I only know of one, the Warroom) draft utilities out there that help leagues run some pretty awesome rookie drafts and I have been toying with the idea of making one myself. This will be quite a hefty task, this I know, which is why I am only toying with the idea. I would LOVE to see if I could talk to some of the current programmers of the utils right now (the only one I know is Tredwell) and see if I could work with them, but I wouldn't want to step on any toes.

Anyways, straying off-topic a little bit...the reason for the post is to gauge from the wonderful people here at FOFC what THEY (they being YOU!) want from a draft utility. What kinds of things would you like to see upgraded from current utils? What new features would you like added? What, if any, cost would you be willing to pay for a really kick ass draft utility? Any and all suggestions will be welcome, I really want to see if this is going to be a worthwhile endeavor or not.

Also, if anyone out there with programming knowledge wants to jump aboard this project, I would much rather it be a joint effort than me trying to take on the entire load myself. Thanks a lot guys.

Zero. All of my utilities are free, I'm not paying for someone else's. And I think all money earned off FOF should go to Jim.

Zero. The kick ass draft utility already exists (aka VPI97's Draft-o-matic)

Yep. And it just keeps getting better.

Indeed. And Lonnie has made a very nice derivative as well...

Which reminds me, I need to start working on that positional preference thingy I thought about last draft.

Count me in the group that thinks any utilities written for FOF should be free. Anything I have written or will write will always be free.

It would have no application in a solo league. It just allows playes in a multi player league to set up draft lists so if they are away from the computer when their pick comes up they do not hold up the draft.

ahh, ok. thanks.

Is there any type of draft utility for a solo league?

why in the world would you need a draft utility for a solo league?

something that outputs draft info to html for offline veiwing.

I think that sort of thing is already available and listed in the reference thread...

I think VPI's utility is sorely lacking sound. I want a few dings, a couple of duh-duh's, and some errrrrrrr's.

Also, since he's commish, I want VPI to record a bunch of sound files that will be used to automatically generate an announcement whe you make a selection. I also want it to sound as robotic as possible.

"With the ONE. SEVEN. TWO. pick in the draft, the ROCHESTER LAKE MONSTERS, select..."

That's not too much to ask, damnit!

Man, this is a great utility greg. I wish I would have seen this earlier (maybe I did but forgot about it). Either way, I am using it now and love it. ;) Great job. I love the Draft Analyzer. :)

Must come with Fan sound effects, like when Philly Boo's any draft pick, and the complimentary "You Suck!" from that one fan when it is quiet or when you take too long to pick.

I had never seen that utility of VPI's and I really like it...so I guess I will scrap my idea because there is no way I could beat that. Well done, sir.
