Looks like The Mole deleted the last thread. Hope you all remember what was there.

For those who don't know, the team got the Enigma puzzle right, despite not knowing how they got it. The Mole was way too generous. Coffee Warlord was the correct response.

Tests will be PMed in the tomorrow morning/afternoon. While taking the tests, you are not allowed to share your test answers or questions with anyone else. Your answers will be PMed back to me.

It should also be noted that The Mole apparently bribed MattJones4Heisman. MJ4H accepted the bribe and attempted to help keep the team from completing the enigma. Had MJ4H and The Mole succeeded, MJ4H would be exempt from today's test. However, since MJ4H and The Mole failed, MJ4H will still take the test. I should also point out this shouldn't exclude MJ4H from being The Mole, as The Mole could very well try and fake the team out by bribing himself.

Confused? Good. The Mole wants you to be.

Tests should be PMed shortly.

Poli

The test has been PMed to all participants, except Schmidty. Schmidty, you need to clear out some space in your PM box and let me know when you can receive the test.

By the way, you may not share the test or answers with anyone. This includes people not playing in the game. You may not accept suggestions either.

You may use notes, printouts, or anything else at your disposal. Just not your neighbor, or FOFCers. :)

Good question. I think on the tv show they would win money for the challenges.

I thought about this, but I really couldn't come up with an award type system. I thought of using a monetary value or points. It's really up to you guys. If you feel it would provide another dimension, I could easily assign a monetary value to the challenges.

Before we start the next task, I need the team to decide something. Unfortunately, The Mole has kidnapped Johnny93g and he will not be able to participate. The team needs to be split into three groups. Of the groups, two will have three people, and the last will have two people.

It is up to you to decide who will be in which group, and a simple majority will suffice.

Group 1 Likes Baseball
Group 2 Likes Football
Group 3 Doesn't Like Hockey

I'll post further instructions once the team has agreed on groups. Just remember The Mole has Johnny93g hostage while you're waiting.

So if you're agreeing with me, I'd say put me in the "Doesn't like hockey" group. I have to go to work until 10pm tonight, but I suspect it will take a while for everybody to check in. Let's get a sense of whether people want to play this straight, or play it my way, and then go from there.

I think The Mole might be tricking us here, and we SHOULDN'T follow what the groups title say.

But it isn't the Mole that is assigning the groups nor choosing the group names, our esteemed moderator is. Therefore, I think choosing a group pretty much has no effect other than to seperate us into three groups quickly.

I'll join the baseball group.

Raven
08-25-2005, 03:02 PM
I know more about baseball than I do about any other sport. I'd say I have very good knowledge of the sport, it's history, players etc.

I'd like to be in the baseball group.

Barkeep49
08-25-2005, 03:07 PM
I really don't like hockey and so perhaps RPI and I should be in that category so that we have our bases covered in case the categories are true, or in case they're not.

Thomkal
08-25-2005, 03:22 PM
I'm not a hockey fan at all, but I think its likely RPI is right that there is some catch involved with the various groups. Sadly I'm not a real big fan of baseball these days, and while I like football, I don't have encyclopedic knowledge of it. Still of the three groups, the like football group seems to be the best fit for me.

I can be convinced to join another if a good reason is given.

$50,000 on the line.
From previous tasks, the team has accumulated $45,000 (This number comes from the questionaire task and the enigma task).

Johnny93g has been kidnapped by The Mole while in Detroit watching the Rams and the Lions tonight. He was with the Group that likes football. The group that likes baseball is in Seattle, watching the Yankees play the Mariners. Meanwhile, the group that doesn't like hockey was in Hartford. They were definitely not watching hockey.

The group that likes football searched everywhere, found clues and headed to the airport. They lost the scent there. Thomkal called the group that likes baseball, and told them about the problem, while Passacaglia called the group that doesn't like hockey. The Mole left a note saying the team has 24 hours (game hours, not real life) to find Johnny93g. All three groups agreed they needed to find Johnny93g and quickly.

Each group may choose where to fly next. I will decide a time frame that it will take to fly there and adequately search the surrounding area (real time will make it instantaneous, but I will count hours). For example, Group A chooses to fly from B to C. Once I see it, I will indicate the time taken, and the result. I will give the group a hot or cold indication. Hot being closer to Johnny93g, cold being further away. That indication will be PMed to the group. Any player in the group may then post the indication here. One last rule, the three man groups must have two players agree to fly to a location before I will acknowledge the flight. Both players must agree in the two man group.

Once Johnny93g is found, all three groups must converge on the location before the deadline.

Questions and/or concerns post below. Good luck to everyone.

Thomkal
08-29-2005, 09:18 PM
Cool I've never been to Detroit! Too bad the game has been sucky so far. Unless you are a Rams fan that is. How about baseball lovers, is the game there in Seattle more interesting? What are you watching in Hartford hockey haters?

OK, so no indication whether Johnny is limited to the US (or North America)?

Todd and MJ4H, here is an idea. Since we are in Seattle, should we fly to Hawaii? If we fly there and we are told we are getting cold, then we can eliminate half the world (Asia, Australia etc). If we get warmer, then we know he is not in North America. What do you guys think?

Since you cover 3 time zones with that flight, you also have a bunch of extra time (in fact, if you fly west you could fly most of the way around the world in 24 hours because of time zones). I say it's a worthwhile play.

Except that Hawaii is REALLY far away from you. How about you fly east somehwere just a tad? I'm guessing he's in the US, or at the very least US/Canada since 24 hours really isn't much time to go plane hopping. BY flying just a little east we should acomplish the same thing.

Ok something interesting here that might just be a fluke BUT: Hartford and Seattle both had sports teams that moved in the sports mentioned, but I can't think of any for Detroit in football.

Since all three teams are way north, I think we might be able to eliminate the northern states. Maybe everything north of the Maryland/Penn border?

If any of us get cold by moving south of us, then we seriously narrow down the target area.

I suggest the baseball team flys to San Francisco. That is the closest large city to Seattle that is paralell to the MD/PA border for us.

I think Barkeep may be on to something here. I just can't imagine we were sent to these cities at random. Perhaps we should go to the cities these teams moved to? As for the football connection, if Detroit never moved, the team that they played St. Louis, did move from Los Angeles. And the team that used to be in St. Louis, moved to Arizona (Phoenix).

Hartford moved to Carolina right? That would be Charlotte. Not sure about where Seattle moved to.

Passacaglia
08-30-2005, 09:36 AM
I think this whole moved franchises thing is a red herring. I like the idea of flying short distances to see whether we're hotter or colder. Thomkal, what say you to a trip to my hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan? Hopefully we don't run into Schmidty!

Thomkal
08-30-2005, 09:51 AM
Pass,

That seems to be a rather short distance. As much as I'd like to see your hometown :) I still think we were sent to these cities for a reason. I would much rather go to one of the "relocated" cities. Just did a google search and saw Seattle moved to Milwaukee in baseball. So how about Milwaukee then? A little further from Detroit than Grand Rapids. (I think?)

The group that likes football boarded a plane to Milwaukee. Unfortunately, Ardent Airlines doesn't fly directly to Milwaukee from Detroit, so The group that likes football connects in Chicago. The total trip takes 2.5 hours, and an hour is added to search the surrounding area.

Total time elapsed: 3.5 hours.

I told you we should have flown United Pass! :) I think I'll wait and see how the other groups first searches go before deciding on a new place to travel.

I just replied to yourr PM.

I think if we fly to Phoenix, and are told we are warmer, then we save some time because we know he is in the south. If we fly to Phoenix and are told we are colder, then we really don't learn anything about his location, and we waste a lot of time.

I say we take a smaller step and fly to San Francisco. That leaves MJ4H to break our tie.

My vote is to San Francisco. However, I do want to note the drawback of smaller moves: an hour will be added to each trip for "searching," apparently. That isn't enough to change my decision on this move, though, but it should be kept in mind when considering an overall strategy.

PS. I may be a bit slow. Still living in a hospital and checking the board from work or when I get a few minutes to run home. I will do my best.

I think we (Baseball) need to not jump cross country like that. It takes too much time and we risk having to backtrack. I vote for something intermediary - like Dallas - and then move east from there if we have to.

Raven

Todd, I think everything west of Milwaukee is a waste of time. Plus we waste an hour searching any location we land in.

If we fly to Dallas, we lose an hour, then we lose another hour in our next location. We can skip Dallas altogether and land in the second location.

I say our best bet is to start south and move north, allowing the two other teams to move south.

Once Johnny93g is found, all three groups must converge on the location before the deadline.

Maybe I'm missing something. Why would I not want to post the indication as soon as possible? As far as I can tell this only benefits the other groups in finding him, which is what we want. We want to find him ASAP so we can converge on the location and win the challenge. What am I not getting?

OK, as I understand The Mole, we do indeed ALL share in the prize money as it gets added to the pot.

However, the catch is, the winners of the challenge are exempt from taking The Mole quiz, right? In that case, we would want to keep the information to ourselves so our groups can win the challenge and not face elimination.

In the real life game, that provided the conundrum - was it worth it to you to potentially pass up the (real) money in order to guarantee yourself another day in the game, or do you risk losing for potential elimination but a larger jackpot? Admitedly, there is no prize at the end of the rainbow, so logic dictates that we forsake the possible money prize in favor of self preservation. However, for the integrity of the ogame, we should probably treat the prize as a "real" one and make concessions to build the pot as well.

This is going to be fun! I have a team but I'm going to wait to see what he Mole picked first

The Mole has chosen his team.

1986 Giants.

The six players may now submit their teams.

Edit: The Mole made a mistake. Since no team has made an input, The Mole is choosing:

1985 Bears.

STUPID MOLE!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Gotta go with a homer pick and put the 04-05 Patriots up there. I think Charlie Weis will find a way to score against the Bears D

I'll take '72 Miami -- after finding Johnnyg, I heard people talk about them a lot.

The Mole has offered me an exemption. If I accept, I am exempt from taking the Mole test, but he gets to pick my team for me (which would probably be a horrid team). He would then get to use my team as a substitute for any of your teams.

I'll pass on the exemption, and take my chances on the Mole test.

You clearly are trustful... unless you are the mole!

hmmmm...

Silly Mole making mistakes and being turned down for an exemption.

I will take the 1989 49'ers for my team.

I figure nominating myself for most trustful, then jumping on the exemption would have been contradictory of me. Plus I knew we'd lose $10,000, and I think I have a decent shot of avoiding losing the test.

I'll take the Super Bowl Champion 2000 Baltimore Ravens.

I want the 1979 Steelers

The six players will have first dibs against The Mole. You may then choose to swap for any team after that. If any of the others want the 2000 Ravens, I'll have to give them to him.

Well guys I'm getting married on Friday and then I'm going on my honeymoon so I will not be able to participate for a while. When I signed up originally I thought this game would move much quicker. Please replace me

We'll finish out this round with Kevin and replace him afterward if need be.

Dola.

Now is a good time for the other three to replace a team if need be. Those three need to notify me via this thread if they intend to use that power or not.

While I'm worried about how the game does with very recent teams, I think we should only have Super Bowl winners. Therefore I will replace the 1990 Bills with the 85 Bears. This will also give us a more defense oriented team since defense wins championships :).

'85 Bears vs '85 Bears, now that's an even matchup
