I have been against the Guatanomo deal because of the no right to counsel/hearing/indefinite detainment thing. I won't belabor it any more. There is probably a million threads on the subject already. But the fact these guys remain in a prison and shackled well after they have been cleared of ties to terrorismjust saddens me on how freedom and democracy have suffered in all of this. The terrorists are definitely to blame, but the US gov't too for not quite reacting the right way. This is an example of how if things were done slightly differently, the situation, international reputation, and self-pride in what democracy stands for would have made out much better. Oh well. Just venting (or sighing) here.
