A buddy of mine is selling a large lot of unopened cards on ebay.

I know there are several collectors here, so if you have interest, bid away...

He should really make some paragraphs or a list of what he has.

My comment to him exactly.

I wish him luck because most of those years are when the card companies kept the printing presses running 24/7.

Late 80s, early 90s stuff. That's funny. I wish him luck.

I count almost 70 unopened boxes there.

Even with that shear volume of boxes, still not worth it?

I recall a little while ago someone in the card forum bought up a lot that had 20-30 completed sets from this period. I don't think he got $2/set for it. Believe it or not, one can still find most of those unopened boxes in card shops for under $10.

That's brutal. In the early 90's, before I stopped collecting, it seemed like a box of 36 wax packs (usually each w/ a retail of like $0.50 or maybe $0.65) would cost somewhere around $12-$15.

Sounds like this guy would be better off selling them each individually and trying to make some profit on the S&H.

At best, nearly everything falls within $5-10 per box. Some only a couple of dollars while the 89 Fleer might be about $12. $450 is way too high of a starting point for the resale value wouldn't be that profitable. Most dealers can't give this stuff away and don't want to take up the room. For $450, I can recommend other unopened boxes that would command good profits (from the late 70s/early 80s) but not this stuff.

Looks like it "sold" at a lower reserve, but it was to a scammer that got NARU. Sorry about that.

To give you an idea of how the tons of modern junk cannot sell on ebay, check this post out

According to this (http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MfcISAPICommand=ViewListedItems&since=30&userid=supersetzz&include=0&rows=200&sort=3&completed=1). He has listed over 25,000 items in the last 30 days. Tons of scans and time developing his pages as well.
At 0.35 per listing he is currently out $8700. He would have needed to sell over 2000 items @ $5 to have made any sort of money. I suspect he is planning on avoiding paying Ebay anything, everything else is too well thought out to have missed this glaring problem.99.9% of all of these listings (lots of baseball, football, basketball teams sets from late 80s to today) did not get a single bid. This stuff cannot even be given away.
