Front Office Blood Bowl

The first season is set to begin. 10 teams have signed up representing a wide range of races and coaching experience. Lets take a look at the teams.

Darwin's Theory (Http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=189142) coached by Whar

Team Synopsis
This team is the perfect Blood Bowl team. Big and tough along the frontline with speed in the back field this team has no weakness, except that I coach it. Players of note are Gore on Horn (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2194598) team captain and general alpha male stud. In the backfield Punk Eek (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2194578) and Phyletic grad (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2194581) make a potent one-two punch.

While this team starts very strong it has no real room for improvement except through player development. With 1 Krox and 6 Sauruses the team can only add Skinks which are never a good replacement. Look for this team to be tough early but loss that edge as the season progresses.

While the team is strong this coach will find a way to lose close games. Simple mistakes seems to plague this coach such as forgetting tackle zones with 1 Agility Saurus.

Projected Finish 5th

Gentlemen All (Http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=190542) coached by Fafrac

Team Synopsis
Coming off a brutal pre-season which saw 2 players killed Gentle Men All still managed 8 TD in 2 games. This team has very strong positional players lead by projected league MVP Elohir (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2211046) . Bringing both hard hitting and grace to the Blood Bowl field Elohir is remarkablely difficult to stop once he has the ball. Look for this elf to put up big games in the early stages of the season.

The frontline while small compared to some is still skilled. Look for stand outs Seramela (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2211056) and Mahtan (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2211053) to have big years on the line.

While starting the season a man down if Fafrac can guide his team to a few early wins and recover from the initial loses look for Gentlemen All to be in playoff contention by seasons end.

Projected Finish 1st

London Maulers (Http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=189590) coached by BYU14

Team Synopsis
One of 2 dwarven teams to grace our league the London Maulers bring a solid collection of the bearded midgets to the field. Trading a Troll-Slayer for an apothecary this team will be very resilient to injury. And after game 3 or so should see a second Troll-Slayer added to the line up.

Blackthorn Fieldstomper (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2199724) will need to have big games early in the season on defense and will need help from the Mauler's exceptional Blizter Fury Windstorm (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2199722).

On offense Slash Shoulderbreaker (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2199721) has posted a 7 second flat 40 yard sprint making him the fastest dwarf in the history of Blood Bowl.

Projected Finish 3rd

Advance Guard (Http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=189596) coached by Arctus

Team Synopsis
Advance Guard is coming off a great pre-season. Having inflicted 5 casualties in two games outstripping their total scoring of 4 TDs they are poised to punish opposing teams this season. Touting their own contender for league MVP Wheels Wallace (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2199799) Advance Guard has a potent offensive attack. Where Elohir is a better pure runner Wheels has better speed and the ability to stretch a defense vertically. It remains to be seen whether thrower Tommy Gunn (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2199801) can capitolize on Wallace's offensive gifts since Gunn has never been the same since the beating he took from the Italien Stallion.

Advance Guard defense is lead by Leeeeroy Jennnnkins (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2199788) who captains a solid blitzing core.

Projected Finish 2nd

Black Powder Bulls (Http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=190105) coached by Glengoyne

Team Synopsis
The Bulls combine the strong Linemen of normal Dwarf teams with Bull Centaurs and Minotaurs of Chaos. Impressive on defense the Bulls offense suffers from fumblitis with poor agilities on all their players. The team is lead by the centaur Bronc (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2206451). If Bronc can hang onto the ball look for the Bulls to have a big year. If Bronc continues his clumsy ways then Shadrack (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2206453) and Meshack (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2206454) will have to step up from the ranks of the Hobgoblins to carry this offense.

The line is catained by Yorin Lonehat (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2206500) a stand out on what is an exceptional set of linemen.

Projected Finish 4th

46 Dwarf Devestators (Http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=191227) coached by SirFozzie

Team Synopsis
The Devestators find themselves in a bit of a predicament. The lack of blitzers makes this team the slowest in the league but it is the off the field issues that seem to plague this team. Jeennel Jameson (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2219835) created quite a controversy by starting a porno career during the season break. His 'I Did You Last Summer' was a run away success but the buzz surround the revolting Dwarf on Snotling Horde scene might cause problems in the clubhouse.

To compound matters the team picked up Gouge (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2219841) who was at the center of last season DGH (Dwarven Growth Hormone) controversy. Gouge could never quite explain how he went for 4'1" to 6'2" between seasons. Hauled in front of Congress Gouge was questioned for hours until he lost his temper, frenzied, and killed the committee chairman. Immediately following the Special Council for Fantasy Football Like Games and Highway maintenance voted animously to reinstate Gouge.

Can SirFozzie corral the egos on this team and get them playing like a team ... not likely sports fans. Look for the 46ers to have a dismal season!

Projected Finish 7th

Orcish Snouts (Http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=189574) coached by Airhog

Team Synopsis
The Snouts are an interesting team and in Blood Bowl interesteing teams lose! Only bringing one Black Orc on the roster means Krunk (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2199501) has to bring his 'A' game each time. Krunk does seem equal to the task while still a young player he has impressed many coachs with his complete lack of regard for the well-being of his opponents, teammates, and any fans he contacts. Krunk maintains mid-season form by performing various felonies in the off season including stampeding cattle ... well thats not much of a crime ... what .. oh ... through the vatican ... kinky!

For the Snouts to win Gragnok (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2199492) is going to need to big season throwing Blinky (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2199497) and Strizzle (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2199498). Look for teams to put the big troll on his back early or the little goblins will be flying to the end zone for scores.

Projected Finish 10th

Primus Pain (Http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=189434) coached by Katon

Team Synopsis
Primus Pain has completely adopted the vertical passing attack investing much of the team off seasons resources towards Sardius (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2197908). Sardius is easily the best thrower in the league with a fine target in the form of Mitius (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2197914). However many around the league question whether Sardius is the player to lead this team across the Rubicon.

Much of the success of this team will rest with the Twin Terrors Oroneon (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2197904) and Derus (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2197906) two of the better blizters in the league.

While a solid ball club too much emphasis on Sardius arm will be this teams undoing.

Projected Finish 6th

Ye Old NFL Boys (Http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=189398) coached by Alf115

Team Synopsis
The 'meat and potatos' of the Orc teams in the league. Carrying 4 Black Orc Blockers including team captain Meike Alstout (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2197688) and 2 Blizters including projected league Defensive Player of the Year Prezt Haulmz (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2197616) and the always dangerous thrower Paytang Man Ing (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2197626) one would think I would have them finishing higher than 8th but I am out of numbers and I do not want to redo my previous work. So they are going to have to suck this season!

Projected Finish 8th

Dregs of Gorfolk (Http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=team&op=view&team_id=191483) coached by Chasncinti

Team Synopsis
A late arriving team to the league it is still in the process of finishing its paperwork. Some other coachs have questioned how it aquired its players and the level of competition they will present. Fafrac of Gentlemen All noted that Baag (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2223038), Beeg (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2223044), Biig (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2223039), Bleeg (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2223047), Boog (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2223035), and Buug (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2223037) all appear in consecutive order in the Gorfolk Municipal Phonebook. Leading many coachs to wonder if these were just the first 5 people to say yes for filling the last few spots on the team.

Owner and coach Chasncinti was reported to be very upset with Fafrac noting the name order is a mere coincidence. He further suggested that an Elf lacked the 'moral' stamina to last an entire season in Blood Bowl to which Fafrac suggested that Chasncinti, the team Dregs of Gorfolk, and the entire population of Gorfolk's parents had only met once and even then just briefly.

Such a statement by Fafrac would have resulted in the coach's death in any other town but the Dreg's have a fan factor of 1. Which means only 6 people in the town even knows the team exists and 4 of those are a little cheesed at Buug for vomitting into the punch bowl at last week's Orc's and Troll's North Baptist singles mixer.

Projected Finish 9th

Those are the teams. Whew I am glad that is done! :)

Alf,

Yes you are allowed to complete 2 games prior to league play. Once you have completed your first league game though all games from that point must be league sanctioned games. If you need an opponent I have a Skaven and Wood elf team with just a few games that might make good opponents.

This goes for all coachs in the league. If you want to get a little experience with your team you are allowed 2 games. This will get you a little money and a few star player points. The down side is you may start the season a man or two down due to injuries.

If you are concerned about injuries in pre-season try to avoid teams with Mighty Blow and Dirty Players. Those special abilities increase the liklihood of injuries.

Alf

Thanks Whar, I'll be lookign at some non "bully" teams to prepare for pre-season.

PS : maybe we could put our usual availabilty playing time somewhere as I am living in France and I assume most of our leaguemates are USA based.

My Schedule.

Monday-Friday 5:30pm Pacific to 11:00pm Pacific
Saturday - Sunday 8am Pacific to 11:00pm Pacific

Pacific time is GMT -8 I beleive which puts me 9 hours behind you Alf.

BYU14 I believe is London based so you might be able to schedule a few games against him. I would be happy to play you this weekend if your schedule allows.

M-F 7-11 PM Pacific(GMT-8) games during this time will have to be arranged in advance. Just to make sure I open a window of time up for the game.
Saturday and Sunday I'll generally be available. I can even get up early to help accomodate the Europeans in the league.

I'm suspecting that I'll have to essentially negotiate a time to play each opponent.

Whatever means coachs wish to use to contact one another to setup games is fine. I mention IRC because the site maintain an IRC server where you can contact dozens of players to set up games.

ahem, Ye Olf NFL Boys did play their first preseason games vs High Elves. Lost 1-2 in a poor showing.... And also got a niggling o na Black Orc on the last Turn on a double diced block that showed POW/SKULL... Shoot me.

My time

I don't know if we could start the League this week, it seems a bit early for me, no ?

Considering I spent like 3 hours last night trying to make a schedule I think we might hold off starting the league till next week end. All I am trying to do is get each team to played each other once. Yet everytime I set up the schedule I always end with 2 teams on 2 weeks that will face each other. Its driving me crazy!!!!

I definitely want each coach the chance to complete any pre-season games they wish. I highly reccommend they do so. The extra games will really help.

*EDIT*
Alf you are GMT + 1 right?

I assume you are talking about trying to create a round-robin with 10 teams? Look at this wiki article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round-robin_tournament). Towards the bottom, they describe a fairly straightforward process to pair up teams over a round-robin schedule. Takes a little time, but it works.

Week #1 Schedule

League Start Date 09/05/2005
Week #1 Completion Date 09/11/2005

The league week will run from Monday to Sunday. One game will be scheduled per week. Each team plays every other team once for a 9 game schedule. I am including home field advantage though it is meaningless to the Blood Bowls rules. Due to the odd number game schedule half the teams have 5 home games and half have 4. While home field advantage does not effect the game I thought it might add a bit of flavor to beat someone on the road or defend your home field.

Games
HOME TEAM ............................... AWAY TEAM
----------------------------------- ----------------------
Primus Pain ................................. Ye Olf NFL Boys
Gentle Men All.............................. 46 Dwarf Devestators
Darwin's Theory............................ Dregs of Gorfolk
Advance Guard............................. Orcish Snouts
London Maulers ........................... Black Powder Bulls

Complete Season schedule to follow for each team. Thanks for the offer MIJB but I stumbled through it :) ... I never created a schedule and did not realize it could be so tricky! I eventually found that the site had a tournament generator.

The first week using the sites tournament generator is listed above. I do not want to start a tournament since I think that locks the teams into that tournament and restricts their play I do not want to start it till all coachs have their team ready to go. So league will start on 09/05/2005 at the lastest or when all coachs PM me stating their team is ready to go.

A note of league scoring. The basic is 2 points for a win and 1 for a tie. The site will track standing points for TDs, casualties, and interceptions too. I think we should just do a basic 2/1 for the first season and see how that plays. If a majority of coachs want a different scoring system please let me know and I would be happy to change it.

P.S. I think the site orders the tournament by poistion in the group, 1 plays 10 2 play 9 etc. If I am wrong and it has a randomized starting position then week #1 games might change when I initiate the actual tournament. I sorry if this happens but it is beyond my control.

(Smack On)

Sir Fozzie,

Barely one beard between the lot of you and you are already talking about smashing Elves. Don't think I didn't notice the Freudian slip in your team name. I know you slipped the "e" in there instead of the "a" as latent homoerotic Elf envy. Whar is 0 - 6 - 1 against me so far and the one tie was against my Dwarf team. That says all you need to know about Dwarves and a little bit about my generous nature tossing the kid brother a bone like that after six spankings. Whenever you finish your next DGH cycle, get on over to Barak Varr and see which one of your Monitors is still floating and come to Ulthuan. I ain't hiding.

Fafrac

(Smack Off)

Hey Everyone,

I hope this letter finds you well. Thanks for letting me play and thank you to Whar for putting the time and effort it took to get this thing off the ground. SirFozzie let me know when you would like to play. I notice you haven't played your pre-season games yet. If you want to make it a bit of a marathon, I could use one of my existing teams (Khemri, Dwarf, or Orc) or make up a new one to knock out the two pre-season games and then we could do the main event. Otherwise let me know when you are ready. I work at home and the children start school Monday so sneaking off for a quick game is not impossible for me. I look forward to playing all of you and good luck to everyone.

I've been swamped. Anyone else need to play any games? I should be around this weekend. PM me here, and I'll see if we can work it out. I've made a human team, so I'll be playing them.

Also after reading up, I've discovered that we should have set a max Team Rating rather than just two games. Cause now those stinky lizards have an advantage. Whoever plays them first needs to kill some stuff. =)

Season is still set to go this monday. If I do not hear from Airhog or BYU14 I will assume they have dropped from league. SO if you two could reply or send a PM I would appreciate it. If I do have to drop anyone I am certain the first week games will change.

Good luck all.

I am having problems with Java getting the game to run, I have been able to spectate a couple of times but never connect and play anybody yet, I have reinstalled twice and will spend some time looking at it today when I get back from Films later this afternoon.....Wish me luck

The first game of the FOFC Bloodbowl season is in the books. The Black Powder Bulls defeated Darwin's Theory 2-1 on a fair weather pitch today. The box score is available here. (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=match&id=885090) To view a replay you will need to download and install the Blood Bowl Java player, and click on the replay link on the box score. The instructions and required download links can be found on the FUMBBL.com FAQ page (http://fumbbl.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&file=index). It only takes a couple of minutes to do, and will allow you to see in pretty good detail how the game turned out.

Note: Fumbbl went down in the middle of our game, and Whar and I had to restart when it came back up. As a result the replay doesn't show most of the first half, and some of the stats are mixed up...like the score.

The following is an excert from the Bull's team reporter's game summary.

"Toe" Nail (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2206459), the stingiest of the Bull's hobgoblins, brought home the MVP while scoring two touchdowns. He simply refused to give up the ball once he came across it. He carried the ball from every step of the way for the Bull's first score. He was tripped up just as he would have scored, but managed to recover and scoop up the ball for the touchdown on his very next opportunity.

The Theory embarrased the Bull's with their kickoff return. The Bulls blitz was rendered impotent by a nifty bit of misdirection, and the bruising rushing style of the Natural Selector (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2194589). Dwarfs and Hobgoblins were left sprawling in the Kroxigor's wake as he rumbled for the score, niftilly heaving his oversized body into the endzone just as the first half expired.

The Bulls kicked off to Darwin in the second half, and fared a bit better on Defense in this half. Rumor has it that their coach felt they were playing soft in the face of the stronger lizards, and ordered them to mix it up. Midway through the second half one of the Theory's Skinks broke free with the ball and saw so much daylight that not one of the Bulls could catch him. Well none of them, save "Toe" Nail. "Toe" closed the gap, and actually found an extra gear(GFI) that gave him just enough range to knock the skink off its feet. The Hobgoblin then deftly scooped up the ball, and started directing traffic for his return. The Bulls quickly setup a makeshift cage, that "Toe"Nail lead all the way to the end zone for a turn seven winning score. The Theory were left with not enough time to counter, and ended the game just steps from the Bulls goal.

Toe complained before the game that he wasn't getting enough "ball time", and that he was out to fix that tonight. He certainly managed that. Other than a couple of Scalebacks, "Toe" was the only player to touch the ball. The game-plan was for him to approach the goal, and then slip the ball forward to hopeful offensive star, Bronc (http://fumbbl.com/FUMBBL.php?page=player&player_id=2206451), for the easy score. "toe" insists that the opportunity to hand off never presented itself. Indeed Bronc and Toe are now tied for the Bull's overall scoring lead. The centaur's confidence seems to have faltered after the Bull's blitz play at the end of the second half left him flat on his face in the Theory's backfield.

Coach Whar was heard mumbling and cursing something about cursed die rolls and lucky stunties after the game, and otherwise witheld comment.

-------------
-------------

Note there is a "luck" indicator on the Box Score, and Whar will probably quickly point out that He had a distinctly poor outting with the dice. I think he is just jealous of my team's three re-rolls. On a day like today(65% luck), I had re-rolls left unused.http://dynamic.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif

In any case I think his complaining is just sour grapes, and apparently his scaley fans agree. The Theory lost a point of fan factor due to the whinging, while the Bulls picked one up along with a victory.

Whar
09-05-2005, 09:25 PM
It really was a frustrating start to league play. I had 7 turns end early on double 2s or less, 3 turns to double ones. The 'luck' stat the game keeps had me at 38% and the Bulls at 67%. My Krox lost 3 turns to his bone head ability all were 1s. Which is normal if I moved him every time but he was often saved toward the end of my turn which were ending quite early.

Glen played a fine game maximizing his team nicely. Even with the terrible rolls I was one or two plays away from winning. The play Glen mentions with "Toe" Nail was a great example. Toe hurdle a tackle zone 33% chance to fail ... Pushed with a 16% chance to fail ... hit my skink having about a 25% to knock the ball loose (he did) and not end his turn ... the ball then scattered onto Toe Nail 1 in 9 chance ... Toe picked the ball up 67% chance ... and advanced it one step back down field. It was just that kind of game.

Glen also made 7 one die blocks ... he rolled 5 or 6 six times.

Glengoyne
09-05-2005, 09:33 PM
Just wanting to mention that with the $80,000 gate we brought in, the Bulls have signed Troll Underbridge. That along with "Toe" Nail's Plus STR skill roll will upgrade the Bulls a bit in the strength department.

I had planned on making "Toe" my kicker, and then I go and roll box cars.

...
Glen also made 7 one die blocks ... he rolled 5 or 6 six times.
True enough. There was one point at the end of the game, when we believed that Whar still had time enough to score..Ooops bad clock management all around there.. that the dice turned a bit against me.

I had to make a knockdown block on a skink, to free up my centaur for the blitz on the ball carrier. It was a three die block, meaning I rolled three blocking dice, and got to pick the result I liked best. I needed a four five or six on any of the three dice. I rolled three threes, a simple push block that leaves the player standing. That was unacceptable, so I used one of my team re-rolls. I immediately rolled three threes again. So now Bronc had to make an always dangerous dodge away from the stunty little skink, which he accomplished. He then promptly ran the ball carrying skink down, threw another three dice block, and rolled a couple of failures and a Bang/POW that would have floored the little lizzard, but the git was saved by his dodge skill.

Alf, have you tried one of those site anonomizers or what ever they are called that allow some people to browse forbidden sites even when their work places have blocked them?

I had a similar problem some time back, six weeks or so ago, and I tried changing all of my links to point to the various gamespy 1,2,3,4,5 etc. I don't think that fixed it, but all of the sudden I could get to the site again. I note that now the URL line in my browser just shows dynamic.gamespy with no number. Maybe they changed something.

As league commissionor I think I have way to forfeit matchs that can not be played. If one party contacts me stating they tried to get a game but did not get a response from their opponent the non-responding party will forfeit their match. (Assumes match not completed in the week).

Games need to be completed by this Sunday.

Alf
09-07-2005, 08:28 AM
Well, if a game is forfeited, the other team should be able to play a replacemnt game otherwise TR will be VERY VERY different from teams to teams, no ?

Whar
09-07-2005, 10:36 AM
Alf I would agree with that if the tournament allows it. That is if a team in a tournament can play non-tournament games. If that is possible I agree that any team that was ready to play a game but lost the opportunity due to forfeit may play a replacement game.

The Dwarf Devestators won their first game in the FOFC BB League, defeating Gentle Men All 1-0 in a hard fought game that saw two elf players put out of action for next week's action and a third miss the rest of the game, badly hurt.

The dwarves were certainly willing to take it to the Elves, blocking and fouling at will, the referee eventually sending off 3 of the Dwarves for illegal fouls, but the pressure paid off, as the elf infirmary was quite full, and a failed go for it opened the 46 Dwarf Devestators up to a defensive touchdown, and the victory.

The 46 Dwarf Devestators also announced plans to release their post game celebration/orgy on Cabal Vision, pre orders adding to the gate reciepts, meaning the 46 DD had cleared nearly 80,000 Gold Crowns.

Eventually managed to get the game played. It finished a 1-1 draw.

There was a decent amount of blood for a match between two human teams. The Pain caused two casualties in the first half - one coming from lineman Muspius, who also scored in the period - while the Advance Guard KO'd three opponents on their way to a second-half equalizer. With the Pain doing a horrible job of protecting the passer, neither side was able to break the deadlock.

I had trouble with the bblfg command until I realized it only works in the channel that your team is located. So for example, if you created an "Unranked" team, the bblfg command only works in the Unranked channel. Try that and see if it works.

(Smack On)
Yes, the Dwarves managed to squeak out a victory but let's look at the replay again. I started with 10 players. I dodged out of his tackle zones constantly so that he rarely had more than a Blitz move to hit me. He still knocked out 4 players in the first four turns. By turn 6 I was down to 4 players and he still couldn't score on me. The first half ended 0 - 0. In total he had 8 turns with me having 5 or fewer players and he still only beat me 1-0. If I hadn't failed a GFI, the game might have ended in a tie. If I hadn't rolled a Skull on a Blitz move, it might have ended in a 0 - 0 tie.

I don't think I would be doing too much bragging about 11 Dwarves barely beating 5 Elves on a second half turn 7 TD after rolling a skull on my tackle attempt.

And don't think I didn't notice Whar starting me off with two Dwarf teams after killing two of my players in pre-season. That's OK the only way to keep the game fair is to play 8 Elves versus 11 other players. 11 on 11 and it would be over too quickly.

(Whine off . . . err Smack Off)

... He still knocked out 4 players in the first four turns. By turn 6 I was down to 4 players ...

I even sure there were that many elves at one point. You did play some pretty limiting D, especially with so few players. I think there was a turn or two where you had a guy or two prone, and only two or three actively moving on the pitch.

SirFozzie
09-11-2005, 06:31 AM
yeah, I screwed up and set things up so he had a 1db shot at the ball carrier at the end of the first half and he took it, then I screwed up a second time setting up a play for the score, but hell, ya live and you learn.

Week Two Underway

In a hard fought, yet scoreless game, the Advance Guard come out with at least a moral victory of sorts. The left the game with no injuries to speak of, and inflicted two casualties on the Bulls. Ash Smokebarrel was pummeled by Lineman Bubba, receiving a sever concussion that seems to have permanantly split Ash's naturally thick skull. After Theory Coach Whar declared "Toe" Nail the most targetted player in the Front Office league, one would think that "Toe" would leave himself standing alone with his back to the sideline. That was where he found himself, and his newly found Strength didn't do him a bit of good as three of the Guard herded him into a patch of human fans who broke his arm adding injury to the insult of being crowded.

The first half of the game was plagued by gaps in the time space continuoum.(connection and client synch issues) It ended in a scoreless tie. The first half started off promissing for the Bulls who received the kickoff, and started forming their tireless cage. The Guard defenced it well, and the Bulls had to completely reverse their field. Shadrack, the hobgoblin tip-toed down the sideline with a pair of bulls shielding him. Remembering how the coach had instructed the hob-goblins to hand off to Bronc when he was in range of the goal, Shadrack bolted to the endzone ahead of his Centaur blocker. All was well until Shadrack tripped over his own feet at the ten yard line, he recovered only to trip again losing the ball into the endzone without an Advance Guard player anywhere near him. After Shadrack's fumble, the remainder of the half was spent with both teams in a desperate scrum for the ball. Wheels Wallace emerged from the pile and led a desperate turn eight full length of the field scoring attempt. The game ended with an Advance guard fumble near mid-field.

Coach Glengoyne was heard yelling that his Hobgoblins were too selfish, and his Dwarves playing too soft. As such, the Bulls MVP was awared to Troll Underbridge appearing in his first match. Troll knocked the humans about every time he remembered to do so. Such consistency has earned him a bit of his coach's respect.

Just as an FYI. Once you have created your team and gotten them approved, you can play them. To do so go to your Coaches Overview screen, and click the 'Play' link next to the team. That will start the client launcher, and is the best way to get an actual Fumbbl game started.

To all, I should be available this week end (saturday evening my time, meaning afternoon-evening your time) and most of sunday.

As I still can't post from home, I'll update my profile with my AIM, Yahoo and MSN contact info. (FWIW, we got in touch like this with Chas and were able to agree on a game "date")

Ok, well I got a friendly game in with a guy who knows his shit. beat the tar outta me with his chaos beasties. But I learned a LOT.

I'd like to Enter my Chaos team into the league instead of the humans.

Banichi's Bengals

Coach: Banichi

I'm out for tonight, but I'll try and be around tomorrow night round midnight eastern standard/daylight/whatever the fuck it is now

Chaos is interesting. One of the bashier teams to be sure, plus they have those mutations that can work pretty well. I'll try and be out and look for you tomorrow night. I've played a few pickup games so far, and have been having fun with it. I played my virgin Orc team against an Ogre team, and learned that you really shouldn't try to play a Bashy style against a wall of Ogre flesh. The guy lured me into the middle of the field and collapsed on me....It was brutal.

I'd love to be in this, if I wasn't in a tabletop league I might have enough time to play in this one!

RendeR's Bengals are now in the league. They have their first game against Sir Fozzie. The 46 Dwarf Devestators and the Dregs of Gorfolk are the only two teams with week one wins that have still to go. A win by either team will place them in first.

Game report: Primus Pain 3, Dregs of Gorfolk 0

If an Orc team gets outbrawled by a bunch of humans, the match probably isn't going to end well for them. So it proved here. The Dregs tried to smash the ball up the middle; the problem was that they couldn't smash. A Black Orc was knocked out by a rock before the game started. Biig the Troll got himself killed by Rojus, a new lineman making a highly impressive debut. With the center not moving, the Pain blitzers were able to flank the Orc line and cause havoc, Verith seriously injuring two orcs. The ball popped loose, the humans took advantage of their numerical advantage to win the brawl, and Quitor the lineman got into position to receive a touchdown pass (which he dropped before picking the ball up in the endzone). A similar sequence of play resulted in the Pain's second, as an unexpected blitz around the side of the Dreg's ferocious line of scrimmage knocked the ball loose and star blitzer Oreoneon - not normally known for his skill with the ball - managed to break free of the ensuing scrum and pass for Mitius to score on the stroke of half-time. The second half started well for the Dregs, as they were able to block the Pain's attempt at a passing play down the right flank before knocking the ball loose when the Pain tried to switch sides. The Pain eventually won the scrum, however, and Mitius once again was the target of a well-placed pass. That seemed to take the heart out of the Dregs (ie Chas decided that since he wasn't going to score three times in three turns there wasn't much point risking unnecessary injuries), and the game ended without further incident.

Actually the Bengals inherit the Orcish SNout forfeit win against Burnt Offerings. So both teams have a win. Winner will have the undisputed lead.

46 Dwarf Devestators defeat the Banichi's Bengals 3-0, game abandoned midway through in the 2nd half.

The DD squad were in full effect, scoring twice defensively in the first half, and adding another in the 2nd half. The Bengals had enough and left, swearing vengeance for a beastman killed by the dwarves so thoroughly, even the Bengals trained apocathery couldn't help them.

The Dwarves take over first place in FOFC with the win.

Good Game Render, I wasn't attempting to rub it in :(

Ye Old Can of NFL Ass-Whooping brought down the Black Powder Bulls in a late night-early morning affair. The 'Ole NFL boys had beaten most of the fight out of the Bulls after scoring their second touchdown. The Bull's star Hobgoblin, Toe Nail, was heard threatening most of his team mates from the sidelines, after they started to play, what was in his words, "sissy elf ball". The Fight had been beaten out of the Bulls by the end of the game, as the NFL Boys controlled the line of scrimage from beginning to end. The Bull's fans agreed with "Toe", as the team's lack of desire has cost them a point of fan factor.

All in All Alf's Orcs beat the crap out of my team. He controlled the game from beginning to end, save for Bronc's brief sprint down the sideline for our only score. Even that was only possible by making WAY TOO MANY Go For Its with no re-rolls. I think we could easilly have been skunked in this game. The NFL boys seem to be pretty evenly developed. There seemed to be lots of orcs with Guard or other annoying skills, and that made things pretty difficult for me. I might have a reasonable shot at a draw or maybe even better, if I get to face Alf again. However this outing, he really did dominate my team, dictating the flow of the game, and limiting my options. Good Game Alf. I'm already planning for next time.

Ok, Katon and I ran into huge server problems last night, how do we complete the game and get the results up? We were in the second half and he was killing me(no surprise) but then the server just kept dying and I couldn't even reconnect to the game and neither could he.

Anyone dealt with this before and have a way to resolve the game so we can continue forward in the league?

You need to load the saved game and continue playing. I think there are some somewhat confusing instructions on the site, but basically:

Run Bbowl manually from where ever it is stored on your HD. (Don't use the play option on the fumbbl overview screen). Whoever is hosting the game will have to load the saved game.

To do this, select the following at the set up:
Click Net Server
check proxy
Host: fumbbl.com
port: 8080
proxy: whatever you want
load the save game file - click browse and select your game. Name format is XXXXvsYYYY.inc; where X's are the first 4 letters of your team name, and Y's are your opponents.

Run the game.

The person who is the client can run a game as normal, just type in the proxy and go.

Game will autoload the saved position. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.......sometimes the save game files are sometimes different for each player when restarting. The player whose turn it was when the game crashed should have the most recent file. The other player should sync to his opponents saved game before anybody makes a move. You do this by right clicking on a blue portion of the screen and selecting the sync command. I think it is embedded under another command, but i do not recall which one. If you do not resync, strange things will happen.

Hope this helps.
