I watched the end of the third quarter as i ate lunch. Both QB's are throwing for over 230 yards! the RBs are looking good too. Not a defensive game at all.

Don't care for HS sports being on National TV.

I don't mind HS sports on TV, but I don't understand what's so special about this particular game.

At the end of the game the commentators said both teams were highly ranked. I dont know though cuz Hoover knocked that other team out.

Watched the last minute of play. Nothing special in my mind, but both teams make my high school look like Pee Wee Football.

Is there really any reason ESPN is showing high school football, unless they've created some national championship game I've unaware about? I'd rather have them show more soccer.

Off-hand, I'd say it's fairly low-cost to produce, it draws (AFAIK) acceptable numbers, and is almost certainly as sellable as soccer.

(I've got to pull some new info from ESPN next week, I'll try to remember to get the particulars on both HS football & soccer, just out of the curiosity this thread has sparked -- truth is, neither of them are going to be cost-efficient for my purposes, the ratings for both are too low vs the minimum floor pricing for live events that they'll price them at).

Though how much does ESPN have to pay for it? Or are the high schools like, ESPN, ok whatever you want!

I think MLS's deal with ESPN doesn't include ESPN paying the league anything for broadcasting rights.

And, of course, I was making a comment based on my personal preferences of what to watch ;).

I don't believe there's anything paid to the high schools (beyond possibly some relatively minimal mandatory rights fees that exist in a few states).

I bet high school football, all things being equal, would get MUCH higher tv ratings than MLS soccer.
