My wife and I recently both got $100 from one of those bankrolling sites to play at Party Poker. We tried our hand at the cash tables for a while, but it was so up and down that it just pissed me off more often than not.
I always did well at sit 'n go's, so was able to start making some money there.... but not a whole lot. I'm not really in this to make money, but it's nice to make some.... kinda helps you feel you're doing something right. I also really enjoy playing multi-table tourneys, and feel that's where my strength lies.
Until recently, I was whipping her ass.... I had around $200, while she had $52 as of last Friday.
And then, the craziness began.
Friday night, she enters the 9:40 PM $2+0 NLHE tourney with 2,500 players at Party Poker. Through some pretty nice playing (I watched the whole thing, all the way to 3:30 AM... and our 2 young kids were up at 6 the next morning) she managed to make it all the way to 7th place and win $220.
Saturday night, she was out of the house, and I played the 6:50 1,000 player freeroll... and finished 9th, taking home $75.
Sunday and Monday, I blew a lot of my money with some bad $20+$2 sit 'n go play (and then some at the cash tables, reminding myself why I don't play them), and now sit at $166 (even after finishing 42nd out of 500 or so in a $10+$1 NLHE tourney, netting $16).
Last night, SHE plays in the same 1,000 player 6:50 PM freeroll and one-ups me... finishing 8th and winning $100! And by all rights, she should've been higher, that 8th place hand was one she had the guy dominated on (A9s v. 59o) and had caught him in a steal attempt... but she was unlucky and lost out. But still, at the end of the day... after I was dominating her 3 days ago, she is sitting at $400, and I'm at $166.
We have a bit of a competition going to see who can hit $500 first... I thought I was a lock, but it doesn't appear so now.
I guess my question is, how do I handle this? Cut the DSL cord at home? Go into seclusion until she goes on a bad streak and loses it all? Give her some bad advice, like to start playing pot-limit Omaha? Or should I just be happy that my wife seems to be turning into a card shark?
