View Full Version : Free email alternative to Hotmail or Yahoo?

I'm tired of hotmail wanting to install 474,000 spyware cookies when I visit, plus I've had too many problems with disapearing and delayed emails plus "the server is fucked up" errors. I haven't used Yahoo in about 6 years and never plan to again.

What other free email services are out there?

gmail rocks. i have been getting quite a bit of spam as of late, but that's probably my own fault.

I have about 50 invites for you...hehe. let me know if you need any.

I agree, it does rock and I found that it's been good so far in picking up the spam and putting it away...

I also have 50 invites (who doesn't? ;))

All about the gmail. When the hell are they going to go final with it? Seems pretty crazy that they still require an invite with pretty much an infinite amount of invites out there.

The only email account that I've ever had to never receive a single piece of spam {knock on wood}.

I haven't received any spam lately. I have, however, had the most excellent luck with random African gentlemen sending me business propositions.

Invites were just a marketing ploy to make all the nerds feel l33t anyway.

But..... I got mine when the invites were limited. I'm not l33t? :(

i agree. i have set up about 3 of my own email names (for safe keeping) and even they have invites now. I have sent out a couple dozen invites. Some people have heard about the ads in the right hand column and got freaked out, thinking they were going to get spam instead of the google add column. sucks for them. i don't even notice them anymore.

i am guessing that they will release it to the public after they are finished with all the new features. though, those are becoming fewer and fewer.

I don't know... we'd have to compare sign-up dates before I could answer that.

The trick is to have a spam account set up that you use to sign up for whatever. Then have another account that you only correspond with friends on. My yahoo has remained spam-free for years. :)

What the alien said.

Although I agree with the love for gmail as well. :)

You can also register without an invite using a cell phone. I think the way it works is they SMS you a password to prevent automated thingies (technical term) from flooding the system.

For an alternative to gmail, I was a loyal fastmail.fm user for a long time. I only switched to gmail because I needed the space for my FOF MP files (fastmail has a monthly bandwith allotment of 10MB or so).

If you're a privacy freak hushmail.com is a great service, if not then it ain't worth the bother.

The interface is utterly boring and plain . . . just the way I LOVE it. We were impressed with them enough to have gone the pay route with them. Then they added file hosting, which I really love. Can't say enough great things about them.
