If I have a player that there is reason to expect he will be better at the new position, etc. That means his ratings will go up, correct?

If I decide to move him back to his old position, will his ratings go back to what they originally were, or were they go down further?

Example:
OG: 34/50
move to OT: 25/52
move back to OG: 34/50 or 34/46?

Hope that makes some sense.

I've never seen a guys ratings go up on a change. I've seen a few stay the same, but more who kept the potential but lost experience. And I think it's very unlikley they switch back to where the were before. The game doesn't tie these things to a player's history. It doesn't maintain a memory of experience at a past position. It treats every position change as if it were an independent action with no history.

I thought that somebody (Celeval) found out there might be something about a hidden experience rating for several positions, but I haven't seen it and can't remember the correct thread and/or context it was claimed in.

I have never played much FOF (prefer TCY) but I remember seeing a player's ratings go up once. It sent me on a frenzy of position changing with no other ratings increase, meaning it's either very rare, or a case of scout error. I think it was a RB to WR change.

I've seen a good bit of players gaining potential. There was at some point a bug with linebackers where you could change, say, a SLB to a MLB to gain potential; then back to a SLB to gain potential, then back to a MLB to gain potential ad infinitium. That's since been patched.

Generally, you'll lose back to a different level if you go back, not the same level, by my experience.

Yeah, that's what I am afraid of. I have a 59 pot. ILB, that projects to be an slightly better SLB. I have two players that are pretty good at my ILB positions that I cannot change to another position. So, I was hoping to clear the logjam by moving him to the other position. I just hate taking a chance with such a promising young player.

For whatever reason, the LB position seems to be the sweet spot for this phenomenon. Pretty much every LB who is within the appropriate weight range will gain potential by switching within the LB groups. I think the ability to do this multiple times has been reined in, but I'm pretty certain that your 25/59 ILB will be something like 25/62 when moved to SLB. Of course, if he isn't a rookie, then he will lose a fair degree of his current ratings (maybe 25/59 to 15/62 or the like) in the switch - the best time to do these switches certainly seems to be before the rookie training camp.
