I was flipping through the stations last night at about 3am since nothing was on and stumbled across a telethon and said to myself "Oh yeah, Labor Day is basically a day for telethons and not going to work". My second thought, however, was that with all the hurricane relief and the ourpouring of good will towards that cause, some of these other charities that rely greatly on getting money today will be lost in the shuffle. I wonder if some charities will miss their goals by a substantial margin because of all the giving to Katrina victims. Again, not a right/wrong issue so much as something that I've been kicking around in my mind: "hm... money's going to hurricane victims that would normally go to Muscular Distrophy".

I was actually thinking the same thing the other day. From a purely analytical and fiscal point of view, Katrina was probably one of the worst things that could have ever happened to MDA's Labor Day Telethon.

I read/heard somewhere that Jerry Lewis had said he was going to donate a portion of this year's donations to hurricane relief. I think he was going to set aside one hour or something and all the money that came in during that hour would go to that instead of the MD charity. Pretty cool on his part.

...if he makes everyone aware of it and the hour he does so. If that's the case - then yes, I agree.
