Maybe that last line worked for her first suspension (which was removed). But not now. No, she wasn't suspended because she posted something before she had been around long enough to do so. She was suspended for being a troll. That's it. If any one of us posted in the manner that she did, we'd be gone for 2 weeks, no exceptions. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've seen long time members suspended for less. So you can drop this nonsense of her being suspended because she's new.

I would also add that it is not elitism that gets some of the more long-standing posters a little bit more slack (at least from me). It is that they may make inflammatory posts like 5%-10% of the time over a large body of posts. When someone new comes in, makes 100 posts with 50% of them being inflammatory, they should have a shorter leash.

Hey, I'm from the south and I agree with this but there's rules to that behavior and they aren't simply for the men. There's a line there and it generally isn't crossed.

On an internet board the line is so blurred it may not even exist and when I see a poster name I don't usually wonder or even give a damn what sex they are. It's like in football, when the women reporters go into the locker room they lose the privelege of being offended by what they see or hear. Same with a message board I'd say.

I don't know anything about the incidents in question, but what a load of bullshit. The whole notion of treating someone "like a lady" stems from the notion that women are meak, sensitive, and unable to defend themselves. If that is the case with a woman or a man, I don't think to many here have a problem treating that person with sensitivity. I can think of an example that happened recently that most remember.

Something is said about minorities on this board everyday that is borderline questionable, and doesn't get the board too riled up. What makes women a special case?

In the end, we should remember that FOFC is a multi-cultural place. People of every ethnicity, gender, class, orientation, etc., post here. We should strive to treat everyone here with dignity and respect. I believe civility is supposed to be a rule of the board. In the past week, I saw a number of flare ups and I don't know if it has to do with a slight tilt on the planet's axis, the right alignment of stars in the galaxy, or group PMS, but it has been a while when I have seen a number of locked threads and typographical abuse.

I would, but there's a couple of issues:

(2 days go by, post has 50 followups, only 25% of them are guys falling over themselves to talk to a real, actual female, far less than normal, the rest are the predicted shitstorm)

radii: I TOLD YOU SO (except, of course, I don't say that out loud. I just sit back in my knowledge that, thank god I have FOFC, so once or twice in a year I can be the one that's right about something!)



And that shitstorm has only happened like 3 times in what, upwards of 1000 posts, so its not something anyone cares about anyway.


On a more serious note, Oliegirl is just another poster who enjoys the board who (in FOFC terms) happens to be my wife. She'll never have any credibility with anyone on the board herself if I run into every thread right behind her to show off how great I think she is, or threaten anyone who says anything bad about something she posts, that's asinine.
