NFL Opening Weekend and no thread about it? Where's vtbub?

Anyways, so the Bengals kicked ass, Carson looked so good. He made one bad play, but besides that I was loving it. Of course, it was the Brownies. Next weekend is Minnesota and seeing that they lost tonight, I hope both our streaks continue, but Daunte has a reason to be pissed off being 0-1 and will come out firing.

So many upsets, SF over STL and the leading their division (heh). DAL over SD! Wow. The Giants beatings the "sleeper" Cards badly..

Lots to talk about and yet I saw no thread for week 1, very disappointing people.

The Broncos sucked balls yesterday. Between the offensive (and I mean that both ways) performances of the Seminoles, Broncos, and Wolverines in the past 7 days, I'm in for one hell of a long football season.

Lions defense looked pretty good against the Packers yesterday. Pack may be lucky to stay out of the cellar in the division.

Looking at the box score and not seeing the game, why Green Bay didn't run more is mystifying me.

The Lions imposing black uniforms made running against them difficult.

I enjoyed a lot watching Miami, amazing what a new coach can bring to a team. Looking forward to crush the Jets next week, i hope they will play as they did yesterday :)

Heh, I'm sure that had something to do with it ;) Actually, the Lions did a MUCH better job of containing the GB backs than they have in recent memory. In the past, Green has ALWAYS burned the Lions for at least one long run. He was able to knock off a few 7-to-9 yarders but wasn't able to open it up much more than that.

I did think, though, that Green Bay passed the ball to much on 3rd and short.

Green was 12 attempts for 58 yards and the game was fairly close. Maybe he would have popped a big run with more than 12 carries.

Could it be that the guy fumbles too much and the team is reluctant to give him 25-30 carries anymore? Five yards a carry in a close game, and you'd think he'd get the ball more often than 12 times.

If I recall Green was suffering from leg cramps during the game. Not sure if that was the reason they didn't use him as often or not. While they had some trouble running between the tackles, as per usual, the were pretty effective running outside against the Lions. They certainly could have done more of that. It was a 7 point game up until the last 4 minutes or so.

I got to see the first half of the game, and I totally agree. They were running all over us, and I kept thinking that it would be a long game if we couldn't contain the run. Of course, I also kept thinking that since it was Ahman Green, hopefully he would fumble in the red zone. I guess in the end, it turns out we didn't have to contain the run -- although it's something we need to work on for next week.

everybody is cramping up. how the heck do you get cramps inside with perfect 70 degree conditions?

they should have run the closet crapper more then.

And, don't they have that Davenport guy? He would have done just as well as Green.

They were cramps of fear; new imposing, black uniforms and all.

Fernando Bryant sucks. Even in the new black uniform. He is horrible.

I thought Goodman looked pretty good out there, though. With any luck, he'll have the starting job soon.

I was amazed how Gus Frerotte played - OK he had one particularly horrible pass for the INT, but other than that he was generally very efficient.

Loved the way Linehan looked to get our playmakers into the game: Chambers, Booker, McMichael and to a lesser extent Boston, and Ronnie Brown did just enough to keep the Broncos honest, until all their CB's decided they were nackered.

And the defense - just wow!

Most promising observation from the game: how quickly Linehan realised our O-line can't protect Gus on a seven step drop, so changed it to three and five steps.

Most worrying observation from the game: the O-line couldn't protect Gus on a seven step drop or open up holes against last year's woeful Cleveland D-line

But hey, a win's a win, and I'll take another half dozen of those right now!

Denver's secondary looked totally lost most of the game. I suspect Jay Fiedler would have gone for 300+.

Be realistic - Jay Fiedler would have gone for 400+!

(I always felt he was a decent QB - limited but more often than not got a W, with help from the D, and Ricky in his last two years. He was harshly treated: it's not his fault he isn't Dan Marino)

I think we agree. I actually thought he was pretty terrific - definitely in the top half of starting qbs in the league.
