Okay, so apparently a ton of people went to see this movie so I figured I'd ask. How is it?

I'm a bit of a horror movie buff, but I have to admit that I wasn't exactly running out to see this one. I'm growing somewhat tired of the PG-13 horror movies popping up constantly. Not that I'm necessarily opposed to them in general, but I typically want my horror movies to be rather... well horrific. :D

So what's the word on this one?

well, it ain't the Exorcist.

although the trailers would have you believe it is.

I was wondering the same thing myself. So how is this different from the Exorcist?

I haven't seen the movie, but from what I've read it's basically a courtroom drama with some Exorcist-type flashbacks.

This is what I've heard as well. I didn't expect it to do well but read this morning that it pulled in over 30 million or something like that.

Steven Hunter (critic for the Washington Post) on Tony K's radio program on Friday called it the most misleading trailer he had ever seen, that this is not a horror movie.

Saw it last night and I agree that it's not really a horror movie, though it does have some fairly scary scenes (enough of them to freak the hell out of me when I woke up at exactly 3:00 AM last night). The fiancee' and I both enjoyed it...

It's PG-13...I'm trying to convince my wife to see this. Please help if you can.

Just curious, for those of you who saw it, did it alter your opinion about whether or not demon possession really happens?

I try not to let movies affect my view of things too much, as you never know how close it is to the actual events. The trailer was definitely very misleading. It looked like something in that "The Grudge" category, i.e., horror directed towards teenagers. In reality, the movie is over 60% courtroom scenes. I felt it was well acted on all accounts. Laura Linney is a solid leading actress, and the girl who played Emily creeped me out well enough (uh, imagine being her boyfriend and waking up to your girlfriend doing THAT).

**************POSSIBLE MINOR SPOILER ALERT*************
It didn't change my view on whether demonic possession is real. I don't believe in it. I do believe that the priest got the right sentence.
